So keep reading and find out more about the gun control laws that the federal and some state governments want to enforce on U.S. Citizens. Background check data gun purchases show that in 2005 nine million checks were done, and for the first eleven months of 2013 the figure rode to nineteen million. Gun ownership according to (justfacts.com)”based on gun manufacturers there are over 300 million firearms owned by civilians and around 100 million of them are handguns. Also 40-45% of households own guns or 47-53 million households. Adults owning guns is 30-34% or 70-80 million adults. Adults owning a handgun is 17-19% or 40-45 million adults.” Why, even after Newtown were a shooting left six people dead, are gun laws ascending. The starting point for this is violent crime rates. According to politics/policy “National gun control push began in Ernest in the late 1960's, an era of sharply rising murder and assault rates, especially in large cities. Violence markedly increased for three decades, throughout 1993, providing gun skeptics with a plausible basis to argue that limiting access to firearms might help address the scourge.” In December 1993, seventy percent of Americans supported stricter gun control, according to the pollster at CNN. Then in 1994 for some reason violent crimes began to decrease falling roughly fifty percent
School shootings in the United States have ignited national debate about how to decrease gun violence. These controversial debates have focused entirely on issues associated to gun control. Both adversaries and supporters of gun control have used their personal views and utilized media attention in order to advance their claims. Anti-gun activists suggest the implementation of the Australian style gun control system could be a favorable policy in the United States. Contrary to anti-gun ideology, pro-gun opponents dispute that the Second Amendment protects citizens with their right to bear arms. Creating an Australian style gun control system will not be successful because removing guns from citizens
The ongoing debate over whether gun control works or not is a controversial topic in the United States of America. As each year passes, an increasing number of citizens demand more regulation in gun ownership. One side of the argument is that gun control has failed to have a major impact on gun violence and exclaim that these regulations and laws infringe upon their 2nd amendment rights as American citizens. The other side claims that the existing regulations are not enough to stop gun violence and even some people calling for the repealment of the second amendment. The side of the argument that will be supported in this paper will be that the regulations on guns are not effective and in some cases infringe on the 2nd
Gun control is a vital necessity to the welfare of our nation. Many people out there are supporting the “anti- gun control cause” with the excuse of “self-defense”. I believe that not everyone will handle a gun for self-defense. The possession of a gun is a sign of power. One of the bigger ambitions that one has is to have power and the easier it is to obtain a gun; the faster a criminal will gain power over an innocent person. When one is in possession of a gun, that person has complete control of their actions and may act upon the weapon however the person may please even if they know that their action will cause harm to defense-less people. There are many deaths caused by guns out there that could
What cause crime? Is is an individual’s access to firearms or is it their willingness to act illegally given the opportunity? In this argumentative essay I will be discussing one of the most debated topics in the United States today, gun control. There are two extremely opposite views on this topic: the belief that guns enable crime, and the belief that guns deter crime. These polar opposites leave room for a very good discussion of what facts and truths may lie behind this topic. Throughout this essay I will be analyzing both sides of this issue. The significance of a topic such as gun control is very prevalent in today’s society. Some see it sad that we must argue over one of our supposedly deemed unalienable rights such as bearing a firearm.
the local zoo, than to confront an assault rifle in the hands of a drug-crazed
A controversial subject in America today is gun control; should there be or should there not be. I do not know the answer to this question, but I do have an opinion as most citizen of our country. All trough our history guns have been used for the good of the people, and on the other hand, they have been used for the not so good of the people; however, as with most things there is a good use and a bad use. I believe the good uses out weigh the bad uses in this case. In this essay I am going to discuss three reasons I am against gun control: one being it is our constitutional right to bear arms, two every citizen should have the right to protect themselves, their family, and their property, and three for conservation purposes hunting
Usually when people think about guns they think about crime. But are the two really related? Do guns really lead to crime? And if they do, do laws that restrict firearm ownership and the use of guns stop the crime or protect people? These are the questions many politicians are asking themselves when creating gun control laws. The debate over gun control is nothing new. As you can see this debate still goes on today and is the cause for the beginning of gun control laws.
“Gun violence has significantly decreased in the past 20 years. Violent gun crimes and violent crimes in general have been decreasing since the early 1990s...” according to James Jacobs a director of Center for Research in Crime and Justice at New York. There are many misconceptions about gun violence some pro-gun control supporters want you to believe like almost twice the amount of gun violence related deaths are actually suicides by guns because suicide is illegal. Another misconception is “Assault” rifles are super advanced but there only normal rifles with “military like” features such as bayonets or pistol grips. Laws and policies from other places would not work in the U.S. There are many other reasons why you should support anti-gun control.
Another big issue is children and teens getting hurt or killed with guns. One reason
In the United States of America, we as people have certain guaranteed rights, and one of those is the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment states, “A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” This amendment has been a crucial issue throughout the history of this country and still continues to be of vital importance today. Today there are several conflicts with this amendment the 1st being a law-abiding citizens right to own a weapon, Second the crime rates because of these weapons and 3rd being the distribution of weapons. In this paper I will discuss the three topics I stated and I will also give an educated prediction of where this
Approximately 2.5 million times a year guns are used in self defense. There is about 62,200 victims of violent crimes one percent of them use guns as self defense and another 20,000 are use guns to protect property. Around fifteen million gun owners participate in sporting events. In 1993, 18.5 million gun owners attended sporting events(“Gun Control”).
Almost everyone living in this country should have witnessed such debates. Some people might not have listened to a formal debate, but an informal gun control debate is being carried on by many groups and individuals. It is very unlikely that someone has not listened to one. Recall the occasions when you were traveling or waiting somewhere hearing the neighbors discussing gun control pros and cons. These conversations are also gun control debates in the wider sense of the term. After all, a debate does not have to be a formal one. The question where the gun control debate is heading to come from the fact that there have been innumerable rounds of this debate, but no conclusion seems to have been
America is the most well armed nation in the world, with American citizens owning about 270 million of the world’s 875 million firearms (Marshall). Indeed, this is more than a quarter of the world’s registered firearms. The reason why Americans own so many guns is because of the Second Amendment, which states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Rauch) This amendment guarantees U.S. citizens the right to have firearms. Since this amendment is relatively vague, it is up for interpretation, and is often used by gun advocates to argue for lenient gun laws. Hence, gun control is a frequently discussed controversial topic in
I realize you cannot legislate morality. I agree with that 100 percent. Yes, saying things like "Thou shall be moral" is foolish, but other things can be done. We have to get back to our roots and become more civil and moral. Throughout recent history our society has continually loosened its moral bonds until we have arrived at the 'everything goes' attitudes of today. This loosening simply has to be reversed. Let me say that this will be a difficult task, but our society MUST put common sense and civility forefront of today's efforts nationwide. It will be harder to fight then any war. We must have an awakening or things will continue to go downhill. Would you agree on that?
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Bill of Rights). This is the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution. This is a document that grants all Americans certain inalienable rights. All citizens no matter their age or standing in society have some understanding of the Bill of Rights and the freedoms that it allows. One freedom that is granted to us, the right to bear arms, has become the center of a heated issue in today’s society and many years before. The majority of citizens have felt the impacts of guns, either positive or negative, during some point of their life. It is because of the fact that guns are a part of
