The music industry is tough, and finding an exceptional Artist Manager, is one of the major keys to any artist success. A Mangers role is to provide a stress-free environment that allows an Artist to flourish and focus creatively, while primarily the Artist’s Manager focuses on the more tactical deeds. It is important for every manager to know which lower level needs are essential in fueling and supporting his/her Artists function and performance on a day to day basis. Skipping a meal might not seem like a big deal to some, but eating is an extremely important part of every person’s basic needs to survive and function effectively. Food fuels the body and without fuel, it is more difficult for many individuals to carry out tasks and focus. Between 6-72 hours without eating, the human body enters a state called ketosis as it begins to fast or starve. Because there is now very little glucose in the blood stream, one’s body must then begin to break down fat for energy – which is broken down into fatty acids. The brain can’t function off this and it impairs normal brain function. (B.T. and Challis, 2016) If not eating impairs brain functionality, then it would easily affect an artist work ethic in the studio, singing ability or even writing habits. Knowing how long his/her artist can continue to work effectively without food, allows the manager to prepare an effective environment ensuring that one of the artists basic psychological needs are met, and therefore they can motivate themselves to move towards a higher tier of motivational needs. With the fast rising technology and the closer world community, the music industry has changed dramatically in this modern world. In this case, I will choose an American rock band Paramore as a case study. I will first start with an overview and a brief history of the band, afterwards I will focus on the main four music business areas, which are Artist Management, Record Companies, Music Publishing and Live Performance, examining how they operate in the industry and their relationship between each area and with the band.
