The experiment that was present in the article was experimental, in which they were trying to prove if the closure of a song was influenced by the ending of a s ing through 3 conditions they used; cold end and fade out. Researchers were also looking into the difference in the tap-along behavior. The variables that were present in the experiment was the song ending; that had the levels of cold end with and without ritardando, and fade out which were the independent variables and they were manipulated. The dependent variable was the tapping behavior which was measured. The procedure that was issued in the experiment included in having participants that were music majors, they had learn on how to use a tapping machine, they had to listen to a
The instruments used measured indirectly and were not always reliable due to various issues with patients. Because the control group was not told to change any behaviors some of the patients listened to music which tainted their responses. The instrumentation remained the same throughout the study, but some participants found the questionnaire too disturbing to answer. The researchers did provide an adequate description of the measurement methods and can find the extent of their errors.
The question was “What kind of bubble wrap would protect an egg the best. A hypothesis sprouted out of the question: If the 195 bubble wrap (which had the largest bubbles) is used then the egg will be the most protected. This experiment was done on December 30, 2016. The independent variable for this experiment was the type of bubble wrap used to wrap the eggs. The dependent variable is whether or not the egg cracked. Whether or not the egg cracked was affected by how well it was protected. Some of the control variables that are in the experiment are, the height the eggs are dropped at. The brand of eggs used is another control variable. The control group were the eggs that were not wrapped in any bubble wrap. To conduct this experiment one egg was wrapped in one of the sizes of bubble wrap. The bubble wrap had a length of 81.28 cm., and a width of 19.28 cm. After the egg was completely wrapped it was dropped from a height of 1.7 meters. These steps were repeated three times for every kind of bubble wrap used.
In terms of the variables in this experiment, what type of relationship was being tested?
The study consisted of fifty, female, undergraduate college students. The ethnicities that were use for this study were African American, European, Asian, Hispanic, biracial, and a very slight percentage was categorized as other. The experiment would begin at 5:00pm everyday, for four weeks. One of the three groups was administered each day. The three groups were either peppermint, expectation, or control. Each participant was seated down, given an instruction sheet, a laptop, and was not able to see the other participants from their view.
In the actual study reported in this article, describe the experimental and the control groups. What is the dependent variable?
The students for the study were split into two groups for the two conditions. The two conditions were contiguous and noncontiguous with 25 students in each. The participants were given consent to sign, read the instructions and a cover story. It was understood by the students that the study was researching information about gun violence in the US. The film viewed was called “Bang You’re Dead” by Alfred Hitchcock and lasted 20 minutes. They were randomly given one the film conditions and were told to raise their index finger each time they heard the word “gun” in the film. The instructions were also not repeated to them throughout the study. The word “gun” was said 7 times in both
Observer 1 and 2 also fully agreed on the effort qualities that were demonstrated, stating that the performance was free, sudden and light, agreeing with the dancer. The dancer expressed that the sound score provoked a “happy/upbeat” emotional response, effecting the performance by encouraging more “bounce, swing” and lightness to the movement (Appendix G, Dancer 3, p43). The observers stated that Dancer 3 “responded to the energy” and atmosphere of the piece (Appendix G, Observer 1, p44), contrasting with the feedback the observers gave Dancer 1, with Observer 1 stating that the music was “light and bouncy” and the movement didn’t reflect this (Appendix E, Observer 1, p36). Dancer 1’s results could be because of the difficulty with comprehending the score, supporting the suggestion that dancers could benefit from music training, as the apparent lack of understanding seems to negatively affect a dancer’s ability to respond to music, and perhaps their potential for
In her research, the author emphasizes who the experimenter is and their characteristics. She uses various diagrams to show the different details about the participants and what the protocol required for music therapy is. Although Dvorak uses these techniques, she fails to clearly address the questions that were asked to the participants during the three periods which she analyzed their overall mood. Like her diagrams that where easy to follow Dvorak gave limited information on what the participants were asked to determine their mood. This information could have been helpful as the reader could make their own assumptions on the questions and whether or not they are suitable for the experiment. The author explains to the readers what type of questions were asked during the beginning, middle and end point of the experiment (Abbey L. Dvorak 76). However, she neglects to illustrate the exact questions or similar questions that where asked. By adding a few questions that she might have asked into her paper
2. The reasons for conducting this experiment stated by the author was see if experiences were affected by stimuli.
Social construct is based on the idea that people create the limits of society according to peer standards. Music is defined by how a person uses it and in perceiving music, it is those personal uses that affect the impact of it in our daily lives. Like music, politics involves the ability to control people and situations. In DeNora’s book, she talks about how music impacts people in terms of cognition and emotion. In Katz’s book, the phonograph effects play a large part in cognitive and emotional responses to music depending on how many effects are present in the song. Wikstrom explains the audience media engine which features the feedback to music that determines whether a lot of people will accept it or not. Wikstrom also discusses an artist’s
Particularly looking at the thoughts of musicians when performing and what thoughts produce the most successful performance. With the format of article set as a psychology practical report it gives clear details of the experiment and its outcomes. A limitation of the study was that there were only 7 male teachers and 44 musicians (27 men and 17 women). As the majority of participants were male this places a bias on the results. Along with this the small sample size affects the reliability of the study. Therefore, the study will be used in conjunction with others of its sought to strengthen its
The information that was received will attempt to find out if different types of music have different effects on the brain and if yes what type is the most beneficial. The hypothesis created based off of the design of the experiment was that if a test subject listens to rock, classical and pop music while solving a math worksheet, then the subject will do the worksheet the fastest and most accurate while listening to the classical music because it is very relaxing, more so than the rock, and activates your brain to focus more rather than no music, and is not as busy and attention drawing as the pop music.
As anticipated, the study behaviour frequency and number of tasks completed during the intervention phase than A1 and A2, and a higher value in both measure in A2 than A1. This suggests that the use of the music app eScape is a positive reinforcement on the participant’s study behaviour, offering music as a possible reward for operant conditioning on the behaviour of study.
The methodology for this experiment is relatively simple, although for the sake of thoroughness, does need to explain in order to fully understand the scope of the proposed study. The first thing that needs to be discussed is the selection of our participants. While it is possible to gather information by randomly selecting people to participate in this study, the results need to be as accurate as
The main purpose for my research work is that the readers who are going to read my report or I can say who is interested in field of music can get a lot of information and knowledge from my research work so that if anybody wants to pursue a career in music sector can gain knowledge from my research. In the first section of my report work, I am going to explain the readers how music is described. In the next section, I am going to explain the classification of music. Further in the next section, I am going to give readers the effects of music on memory or studying with the help of references in my topic. In the last paragraph, I am going to conclusion for my research work.
