The State Of Texas And The United States

Till this day, Texas is known to look out for its benefits. If a person wants to get rich, they invest or move into Texas. Self-interest and money are major keys in Texas politics, making it a continuous traditionalist state. Texas is for the most part hostile towards taxes and refuses to meet the concurrent standard. Texas is known to uplift personal growth to those who step out of their comfort zone and take action into what they want to do. Drastic changes in population growth, lack of education, aging population, regressive taxes and public service demand sometimes make it hard for individuals to look out for their self-interest and rise above the predicted standard. Usually those who do look out for their benefit are those that are not even Texas made. Texas takes its luke warm advantage and inclines towards its individualistic side for this aspect of its political culture. Self-interest mainly and ultimately revolves around its business aspect towards society. In a sense, this can be looked upon as survival of the fittest. Those who “pull themselves by the boot straps” are the ones that will succeed in a state where everything is known to be bigger and better.

Detra, I can relate with you as I am also not a Texan native or know much about Texas government and its history. When I hear about Texas first thoughts that comes to mind is either their love for their football team, bbq, or women’s big hair do’s. That’s what I related to “everything is bigger in Texas” with, however as I have read it also relates to their pride, their state size and their growing population. I also never understood why Texans are extremely proud people then again as I have been reading and as you have mentioned they have had an interesting history and have shown that they will fight for what they believe in no matter the cost.

Texas, nicknamed “The Lone star State”, has always been very unique compared to any other state in the United States of America. Texas have a sense of great pride in where they come from. Texans hold their heads a just a little higher than anyone else. Texas is the second largest state in the U.S., Texans have their own pledge of allegiance to the state flag, and is the only state whose flag is permitted to fly as high as the American flag. So, why is it that Texans take so much pride in their own state? Texans take great pride in their state because at one point before Texas was a state belonging to the United States, it was its own country. This is how Texas got its name as the “Lone star” State. In nineteenth century, Texas fought many battles against Mexico and its leader Santa Anna, to gain Independence from the country. After many hostel wars and lives lost, Texas made a break through at the Battle of San Jacinto and conquered the Mexican government in the year 1836, becoming the new Republic of Texas. It then remained Independent for almost ten years. Our Independence and history of secession runs through our veins. The topic is a reoccurring one when it comes to politics. In recent years, there have been talks if Texas should secede from the United States again like they did in 1836. In terms of Texas in general, our economy rests a lot on the oil producing industry and this has forced many companies to make tough decisions like cutting back on new hires and in some cases even laying off workers. Even though the Texas economy has a lot more going for it than just oil, especially because of the job growth in technology, health care and construction, there's still risk ahead for Texas in terms of job growth, less production, less investment, and less build-out of infrastructure. The three branches of government stemmed from The Constitution. The creators of The Constitution wanted to have a document that explained how the government should be run. In this document it stated that there should be three branches, the legislative, judicial and the executive branches.

Texas is home to about 27 million people and continues to grow. Texas’s major public policy problem right now would be in infrastructure and can be fixed by compromise. There are two types of infrastructure which are economic and social. Infrastructure means those basic facilities and services which and facilitate different economic activities and thereby help in economic development of education, health, transport, communication, banking & insurance, irrigation, power, and etc.... Texas has had a history of suing the government. Since 2008 Texas has sued the government 40 times, winning 7 times, losing 10 and 16 still being decided.

Texas is the second most populous state as well as the second largest state in the United States of America (Brown, Langenegger, Garcia, Lewis, & Biles, 2014). With a huge number of people currently calling Texas their home, it would make sense to draw the conclusion that the Texas government must make this state a great place to live by serving its citizens to the best of its abilities. However, it is best not to make assumptions and in order to ascertain whether the local government actually fulfills this role we must look at multiple aspects of the government.

Texas is considered a very diverse and unique state in many different aspects. It is the second largest state with more than twenty-six million people residing. People all over the state live in a variety of environments, cities, suburbs, rural areas, you name it. Of course though, like in everything else, there are always both positive and negative things. However, despite the fact that Texas have very high poverty rates and it has the second highest income inequality, Texas is a very interesting state and it has a lot of things that are worth learning about. I learned some things about Texas politics that I thought were very interesting. These topics include the State Constitution and the legislature.

Education issues in Texas can affect several areas in the Lone Star State. Texas is the leader of all 50 states in teenage birth rates. This number alone can affect high school graduation rates which also trails other states in the rank of 41 of 50 states, and can be partially to blame for Texas’ last place position of the percentage of population over age 25 with high school diplomas. These low graduation rates affect social issues by forcing people into low income jobs, housing which usually leads to high poverty levels. Texas should be worried about the future that this information predicts because if nothing is done to correct the issue it will only get worse. A strong, independent and thriving Texas economy is a top priority of Gov. Perry’s. His efforts to provide a reasonable legal climate, a sensible regulatory environment and inducements for job growth and business development have made for a more prosperous state. This focus on tax and regulatory reform, increasing trade, forming industry clusters, and investing for growth has strengthened our state’s economy to weather the forces of our nation’s recent economic struggles.

The two states of Texas and California have vastly different methods of taxation and they also differ in how they spend these taxes collected. In the past, many people packed up and moved out west to California because they saw it as the land of opportunity, but recently, this trend has changed as many individuals and businesses have been moving from California down to Texas. This is a relevant point to discuss because this movement has much to do with how California and Texas both tax their citizens. Texas prefers a regressive tax system, which taxes citizens by letting the taxes fall as the tax base increases, California implements the opposite method through more progressive taxes. While citizens may prefer Texas’s system of limited taxation, this also severely effects what services the government is able to provide to its citizens, which is why I would argue for slightly higher taxes so that Texas can obtain more benefits in the long run.

The state of Texas may have experienced a great deal of short comings in the pass, but Texas continues to flourish. Over the years many true leaders have without a doubt change Texas Government in different ways. One of the most important people to impact Texas government was known for her big heart and humorist personality. A real die heart Texan with devotion and goals to build a new Texas. For instance, establishing opportunities for women and minorities, reformations and increasing school funding are just a few things to shift Texas Government. Former governor Ann Richards is one of the most important women to impact Texas Government.

The Texas economy stands 12th in the world and stands as a reason that secession might be possible. There has been seven Texas Constitutions since 1827 including our current Constitution, which was established on 1876. Our current constitution has been amended hundreds of times because of its tight restrictions. The Legislative department is the dominant branch of the Texas Constitution it is subject to check and balances in the tripartite system. The Executive department limits the government’s power, and the judicial powers is divided into smaller courts. These three branches of the Texas are examples of how restricted and limited our constitution is.
