08 May 2015 The War on Gun Control
The debate over gun control is one of the most heated debates currently going on in the government, and in the general population of the United States. One side of the debate says that guns are a legal right protected by the Second Amendment, and help to keep citizens safe if they are ever attacked. The other side says that guns are an evil thing, that they are the cause of death and destruction, and they want to infringe on American 's rights, and basically negate the entire second amendment. Gun Control is something that would really hurt this nation. If guns are banned, law abiding citizens will turn in their guns, and criminals will be free to do whatever they want without the fear of a citizen having a gun to stop them. Pro Gun control advocates are under the impression that if guns are banned, the violent crime rate will go down exponentially. As some of you may know, the United Kingdom has a 100% gun ban. Rifles, Pistols, Shotguns, everything. The Police don 't even carry guns over there! A wordpress article by Steven Goddard compares the violent crime rates in the United States, and the United Kingdom. This is what he found. “According to the FBI, there were 1.2 million violent crimes committed in the US during 2011.According to the UK government, there were 1.94 million violent crimes in the UK during 2011.” This already sounds bad enough for the people trying
Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.
Gun control has been a big topic for the past decade in the united states. These debates will rise and fall time in and time out after something horrific happens in the state. Anti-Gun supporters do not realize that it is extremely difficult to regulate something in the states that is a big portion of our economy.Would stricter gun laws change anything? So far statistically It has been proven otherwise one must consider how a citizen would defend themselves when they are faced with terror. How will they defend themselves if there are restrictions on guns? It seems that some states that have stricter gun laws are where the most shootings and also where more terrorists attack take place. It seems that gun control is only pushed when shootings gradually get worse and worse. But why are these anti gun groups not speaking up when police brutality happens or when a racial hate crime occurs? Anti-Gun groups do not look at the bigger picture and try to understand that it is more than guns. Gun control almost plays Zero role in murders
Gun Control refers to laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms in order to control crime and reduce the harmful effects of violence. (http://definitions.uslegal.com/g/gun-control/) US Legal Definitions.
Ever since the 2nd Amendment was ratified, gun control has been a flaming topic of debate in America. The politics surrounding this debate could affect the lives of millions of Americas who already own firearms. Americans are looking for information regarding what a conceal carry permit is and how to obtain a conceal- carry permit so that they may formulate their own opinions on the issue. Investigating further, citizens are confused with the numerous conceal-carry permit classes, instructional courses, and the background checks of carriers. Who is allowed to apply? Where shall they be allowed to carry? Using data gathered from a multitude of sources, the average citizen might form a new frame of reference concerning this topic with
The gun laws in California are for the most part the strictest in the United States. In order to purchase a gun legally, one must obtain a firearm safety certificate by passing a written test. There is a 10-day waiting period as well as several limitations on who may own a firearm. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are two democratic candidates who recently had a presidential debate in Flint Michigan for the 2016 election. The purpose of this essay is to compare both candidates’ standpoint on the subject of gun control and determine which candidate has the best policy.
In today's America, there is a huge debate on gun control and second amendment gun rights. Many politicians today want to take away people's guns, but doing so would not help fix the problem. Criminals do not follow the law, and would definitely not follow any gun laws that would be set in place. Banning guns would only endanger those who keep the law. The second amendment states that citizens have the right to bear arms, and banning them would be unconstitutional. Around the world, banning guns has only made
However, recent and past observations have proven that these rules have a drastic opposite effect.New York passed a rifle and shotgun registration law. Afterward unknown why crime rates rose. Washington D.C. passed a ban on handguns in the 1970’s, afterward murder rates tripled. At the time reports showed that 304 of the states homicides out of 309 were committed with handguns. Today it has the highest homicide rate than the rest of the country by over 38%. DC even banned rifles in 1989. South Carolina made it harder to purchase the sale of handguns and the crime hartes doubled in just a year. Care to tell me with what let me think yes it was Handguns, the very thing they had made it harder to purchase. Even more statistics prove that gun control is not a solution China for example still has mass homicides occasionally by only knives as the
Gun Control is a hot debate topic, where people have been divided into two different viewpoints. The majority of states have supported their colleges to carry guns in case of a mass shootout. While the majority of liberals and democrats oppose carrying guns on school property, some states like Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Mississippi have already passed the law to allow students to carry concealed weapons on campuses to protect themselves. The majority of people present their arguments that Gun shouldn’t be allowed on campuses. A campus is a place where students gain knowledge. It is not a battlefield or a place where students should fear their classmates. These days’ people are being irrational about mass shootouts. Media also has a huge responsibility on this issue, and media has the power to provoke fear among people. There are many solutions to fix these problems. Deploying more security could be a solution; it would also create more jobs. Simply handing guns to teachers and students won’t solve the problem of mass shootouts. There might be some students or faculty members who are same minded as shooters. The other solution which could be effective is deploying more police officers onto campuses.
On Thursday, October 1, 2015, Christopher Harper-Mercer, a 26 year old student who was armed with six guns, killed nine people in Umpqua Community College in Oregon. According to a report released by the F.B.I., mass shootings in the United States have risen drastically since 2000. Also, studies show that countries with higher rates of gun ownership have more mass shootings, an incident involves more than four victims of gun violence, but not include gang violence. The United States has 5% of the global population, but has the most population with people who own firearms. Because some people own multiple weapons; therefore, on average, there are about 89% of the U.S resident own guns, which also have 31% of mass shootings during 1966 to 2012. Gun control is a controversial issue that the people in the United States argue about. Some people want stricter gun laws for a safer environment, while others want to own guns for recreational or self-defense purposes. To find out if restricting people’s rights to own firearms will minimize the number of the mass shootings in the United States, I conducted some research with my group mates. Based on the news articles and scholarly articles, we found that restricting people’s rights to own guns can reduce the number of mass shootings, but not by much, because people who commit mass shootings will obtain the weapons illegally.
Correspondingly banning guns would in fact reduce the amount of guns in public hands, but it would increase the crime rates. Imagine a situation for a moment. The government outright bans guns and what happens then? Who would there be to actually enforce this ban? Would the police go door to door asking for your guns? Would they have an all out gun war? Or would they even attempt to take the guns from the people? Would it be worth risking their lives? Now imagine that they do manage to get guns from anyone willing to turn them over. What would stop criminals from still having these weapons? Do you believe that fear of the police alone would be enough to stop criminals. Would it be enough to stop these people from robbing every place in sight knowing that they will face little resistance? These are some of the most important questions to ask before even thinking about banning guns. They clearly all lead to a clear answer that if guns ever were banned that it would only bring upon civil war and higher crime rates. According to Pat Roberts a writer for Huffington Post and Forbes, “Banning guns for civilians would have very little if any net effect on murder and suicide rates”. The main reasons that he gives for this is something called supplication. If guns were to go away another way of murder and suicide would just take its place.
Plaguing the nation, for quiet sometime, has been the issue of gun control. Whether you are for gun control, or against it, almost everyone has an opinion on it. One organization, Moms Demand Action, have released a series of ads expressing their views on the issue. Released in April 2013, was a series of print ads entitled “Choose One,” in which a child is shown holding an assault weapon which is juxtaposed to another child holding an item that is banned in schools, but is not harmful. As stated above, the ads were released in April 2013, which was four months after the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting. It is no doubt that these ads were created in response to the shooting due to the location and theme of the ad. The specific ad that will be covered is the one that features a young girl holding an assault rifle, and the other girl holding a copy of ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ The ad is meant to illustrate the absurdity of the lax laws regarding gun regulations. Moms Demand Action achieved their goal by presenting a thought-provoking and shocking ad.
The topic of gun control is discussed frequently in the presidential debate recently. While it is a constitutional right to bear firearms for citizens to protect themselves, firearms can contribute to crimes and deaths. In my research paper, I hope to prove the effectiveness of gun control policies and thereby advocate for stricter gun control. During my research, I have found three secondary sources that present research findings about issues related to gun control. Specifically, one scholarly article deals with the public’s perception towards the effectiveness of gun policies. Another scholarly article presents a case study of New York gun control laws. The last article talks about the correlation and causation between gun control and gun crime rates. Through my analysis, I found that all three articles have a relatively strong credibility, and the two scholarly articles contain more plausible logic than the third article.
On the topic of gun control, the main objective is to aim towards regulation along with the restriction of the possession and the purchasing of firearms. The whole idea that is public policy issue, is due to the fact the right that US citizens have within the second amendment. According to Cornell University Law School in their legal information institute the second amendment is defined as, “"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." (Legal Information Institute) The tension between both the second amendment and the gun control laws, have put America into a stand still whether or not if there should be regulations. The main purpose of
The subject of gun control is a highly controversial topic in the United States of America. The regulation of guns and the legal control of their distribution is something that has been debated for centuries, ever since the Bill of Rights was enacted. There are many reasons that gun control laws should be stricter, especially considering how dangerous these weapons are. The United States Constitution does indeed protect a citizen’s rights to bear arms, but there has to be some regulation. The gun control of automatic and semi-automatic weapons is necessary to eliminate mass shootings and other gun related crime.
Over the past few years, the issue of gun control has been widely discussed. You surely have heard the phrase, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people” uttered and i wholeheartedly support this statement. It is important to treat guns responsibly so they do not end up in the wrong hands. I believe gun control violates our inalienable rights. Another piece of our liberty will surely be taken away if guns are banned, and socialism and totalitarianism will be right around the corner. An added protection against tyranny by the government is a possession of guns by the general public.
