Contrary to some commonly held practitioner beliefs, the nature of the work itself is the most notable situational effect on job satisfaction, which is often called “intrinsic job characteristics” (Saari, L. M., & Judge, T. A., 2004, p. 397). Previous research founded that the nature of work itself is regarded as the most important job factor in general when employees are asked to evaluate different facets of their job. For instance, a study of Kovach (1995) examined that interesting work was ranked the most important job attribute. Therefore, the nature of the work situation is not only a cause of job satisfaction but also related to outcomes like employee retention. Conversely, Sutherland (2013) noted that some studies identify job characteristics as the determinant factors of job satisfaction may be empirical. According to Sutherland, job satisfaction may differ across employment status groups such as the self-employed and those in waged work. A second major manager or HR practitioner knowledge gap is in the area of understanding the results of job satisfaction. Laxmikant (2013) argued that employee’s behaviour would affect organizational operations according to the employee’s score of job satisfaction or dissatisfaction. In other words, job satisfaction can be expressed through positive behaviour and job dissatisfaction through negative behaviour.

Organizations that are serious about making improvements are going to have to deal with the issue of job satisfaction. Job satisfaction can be best described as the positive feeling that an individual has about their job resulting from an evaluation of the job’s characteristics (Robbins & Judge, 2009, p.31). It would seem natural to think that job satisfaction would have a positive correlation with successful organizations. What impact does job satisfaction have on an organization? The Value Percept Theory argues that job satisfaction depends on whether a job supplies the things an individual value most. Overall satisfactions derive form combined levels of satisfaction from various elements of an individual’s job, whether it’s: pay, promotion, supervision, coworkers, or the work itself. Job satisfaction is based on cognitive and affective components, which is evaluated by what an individual thinks about the job, and how they feel. Cognition evaluation is based on experiences, weighing different aspects of a job; as affect is a reaction of the job, which can fluctuate based on moods and emotions. Level of dissatisfaction is measured by the difference between what one has and what one wants, and the level of importance of that facet to the individual. Statistics have proven, that supplying individuals with what they value, will increase the chance of better performance, which has a high correlation with an individual’s affective commitment with the organization.

Managers today are finding it harder to ignore the job satisfaction issue, especially at a time when the demand of meaningful work is increasing. There are two main reasons why managers are concerned with job satisfaction. One of the reasons is that managers have a moral responsibility to do what they can to provide employees with a satisfying work environment (Ramayah, Jantan, & Tadisnia, 2001). Another reason is that managers believe that the behavior of satisfied workers will make positive contributions to the organization (Ramayah, Jantan, & Tadisnia, 2001).

Firstly, this research report will present the background of a research topic based on the news article posted on ABC News on the 5th April 2017(Bamford 2017). Secondly, the report will also develop the aims and expectations for researching on the above-mentioned topic. Moreover, this report also will critically analyse academic articles and will accumulate the statistics/data through survey instrument which will be reported in the next assessment. This is also the main reason why the public or the government sector is continually developing and innovating strategies which will give the employees that sense of satisfaction in improving their performance. He also added that having satisfied employees who do their work, present a higher probability of behaving and doing their job more efficiently. By innovating ways on how employees can feel satisfaction on their work, it is also a way by eradicating factors that can cause dissatisfatction.
