Theatrical makeup refers to makeup that is used to assist in creating the appearance of the characters that actors portray during a theater production. Theatrical makeup artists apply makeup to performers to reflect the period, setting, and situation of the role ("Makeup Artists, Theatrical and Performance"). These artists have the skills to transform people into a desired character using makeup, wigs, and other items. Many in the profession work in theater and different types of performances, movies, and television ("Theatrical Makeup Artists: Schools and Careers"). Although the theatrical makeup field does not have standard verification, a high school diploma and cosmetology degree is recommended. Volunteering, or receiving an internship at small organizations is highly beneficial for an artist, and gives the opportunity to gain experience to build up their portfolio. Specific job tasks are given to makeup artists. Some of these tasks are: establish budgets, confer with stage directors and performers in order to get a desired look, apply makeup to enhance, and/or alter the appearance of people, analyze a script, evaluate environmental characteristics such as lighting plans and venue sizes, design rubber or plastic prostheses, and much more. These tasks are essential for a theatrical makeup artist to succeed and complete achievements in their job. Mastering the level of perfection is necessary for a sublime artist. There are numerous companies in which theatrical makeup is the main premise. For example, kategriffiths is a company where they offer experienced professional makeup artists, workshops, and schools.
