The worldview I chose was Christianity. I started out answering yes to the first few questions saying that I believe that there are truths out there that remain true despite of what others think, that it’s possible to know what is true, and that there are things that are objectively good and bad. The next question asked me if there was more than one valid religion and I answered no because I believe that there is only one way to heaven. These questions lead me the important question of “is there a God?” Answering yes to this question categorized me as a Theist worldview which means that I believe that there is a God. The next few questions asked about the character of God. I answered the questions saying that I believe that God has emotions
What is a worldview? To have a world view means that you have created a personal opinion of life. Those opinions you have created, help you make decisions as well as help you learn how to portray the world around you. As to be expected, one man’s worldview will not be the same as yours but it is always good to share your views with other people to hopefully open their eyes to your perception on certain topics. Finally it’s also good to listen to other people’s views to expand your own personal knowledge on the Christian world view.
A worldview is not determined simply by a single factor, value, belief or view. It can be described as a collection of beliefs a person has about his or her life and the world around. This worldview can include aspects such as a consistent decision making process, an idea of what is right or wrong, and also who or what authority do I respect and follow. This view can modified constantly by factors including experiences that a person might face, a changing environment, and different values. There are many different types of worldviews and perspectives people have about the world that help to shape who
My worldview has been shaped and expanded over the course of my lifetime by many different influences. My family, friends, coworkers, teachers, and even strangers have made impacts on my life that have in one way or another changed how I view society and the world around me. The three main components that help to form my worldview are Ethics, Human Nature, and God, because they molded my thoughts, experiences, education and life decisions.
Everyone has a Worldview. “A collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group.” (1) Some have a Biblical Worldview. A Biblical Worldview is founded on the word of God. It is how a Christian views the world. Both belief systems are equally important to each individual, but there are differences in the way they view the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and culture.
1 According to (Weider & Gutierrez, 2014), there are many different approaches to evaluating or determining a person’s worldview. Many people’s view of the world is formed/shaped by their culture, ethnicity, friends, family and/or religion. Often times, they find their faith through personal encounters with families and friends. For Christians, our worldviews are formed through our faith which is strengthen through us studying the Holy Bible.
Author Mynga Futrell, states in her "Worldview Sampler" that a person 's overall worldview is their interpretation of the world based on a collection of beliefs about life. This worldview can be religious or nonreligious, based on how a person’s perception develops or becomes altered. Development begins at birth and throughout a child 's upbringing, this alters as the child proceeds through life into adulthood. Regarding Futrell, I completely agree; my childhood had been strictly religious, and my schooling offered a different form of thinking towards the views I first developed, from that my perception on life shifted from Christianity to realism. For my father there is a God; God had rules, and we (the people) should follow these rules otherwise you’d go to hell. My mother taught of the existence of an essence of something divine, but she couldn’t agree God existed-she believed in the possible existence of something but didn 't believe it had an influence on her life. For her, no heaven or hell existed, only the possibility of reincarnating.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines worldview as “the way someone thinks about the world.” ("Worldview." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d.). A worldview can be seen as “the framework of beliefs by which a person views the world around him.” (Hindson and Caner, p. 2206). In other words, it is a particular person’s perception of how the world works and what is going on in the world. A Christian will have a different view than does a non-Christian. An African-American will see things differently than will a Caucasian-American. A high school drop-out will perceive things in a different manner than will a person who has achieved a Master’s Degree. All of these differences are based on the person’s upbringing, experiences, and beliefs. Although they may see life and events in a different manner, no worldview is incorrect for that
I. A worldview is a person's concept of what the world is, how the world operates, and the place he or she has in the world. The worldview can also encompass the philosophy of life held by the person, because life philosophy and understanding of the world are generally linked to one another. In other words, a person who has a highly religious worldview would very likely have a philosophy of life that encompassed the need for a kinder world, and that included the relationship between what happens in this world and the promise of an afterlife. The person who has an atheistic worldview would be expected to have a philosophy of life that was different from that of a religious person, and that encompassed different things that were important to that person. A worldview can change over time, of course, because it is generally shaped by parents and school at an early age. As a person ages, he or she explores the world and sees it differently, which can lead to a change in the overall worldview held by that person and how he or she will choose to respond to the world in the future.
Today’s society consists of many worldviews. Most people tend to pull beliefs from different religions, but often stick to one main worldview. A worldview to me is the gathering of beliefs that shape what we do on a daily basis and forms our overall view on life. When I look at my beliefs critically, I am able to see my worldview and see how it compares to different worldviews, but also how it compares mainly to the Christian Worldview.
Discovering your worldview Taylor, Joseph Garrison Liberty University Discovering your Worldview A worldview is the framework or beliefs by which a person views the world around him or her. To explain further, a worldview is how a person basis their beliefs, actions or motives, which are based on life experiences. Even through life experiences or worldviews can develop from a variety of sources. For example, a person may live in a home with abusive parents, making for an unhappy environment.
A worldview is a system of beliefs that we model our lives after. It is how we perceive the world and others around us (Rusbult, n.d.). A person’s worldview is affected by how he/she is raised, his/her culture, his/her living situation (Rusbult, n.d.). A person’s parents and upbringing plays an important part in how that person interacts with others and thinks. A world view is like wearing colored glasses (Gutierrez, 2014). The way we see things, or perceive things, is based on the color of the glasses we are wearing. Where did we get these colored glasses? We obtain our “worldview glasses” from our parents, our culture, our friends, the media, and our religious beliefs. (109 words)
Your worldview is how you view the world through no one else’s lenses but your own. The environment we grow up in can greatly influence everyone’s “personal” worldview. Although, if it is based on the opinions of your mother or father, is it really yours to claim? It is because of this reason that there are so many worldviews in this world. We get so caught up sometimes in trying to figure out who’s thoughts are more rational, while the answer lies written in a book that is older than any of the views you may hear. From the very beginning, there was the Word (John 1:1) – meaning the Bible. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Therefore, I rely on scripture to validate my own beliefs, and discern whose opinions are
My own personal worldview has been crafted out of personal experiences, cultural practices and beliefs and most importantly my Christian faith. It is my core beliefs that have placed my Lord and Savior above everything, shaped me into an open minded individual and aided me with life's challenging and mind boggling questions. My worldview consists of a Christian based ideology that refers to the bible as both a reference and narrative. My Christian beliefs and practices have also led me to believe and follow specific norms and standards and has tough me what is ethical, justifiable and righteous. It reinforces my values by enabling me to participate in specific rituals and
A worldview is a mental model of reality. It is the idea and attitudes towards the world, life, and us as individuals. Each individual has their own unique worldview. People acquire a worldview by how they go through life, it may change or even stay the same. How they grew up, life situations, values, religion, and attitudes are factors that may affect one’s worldview. There are many questions that can make up one’s worldview. How should we act? What gives life purpose? Where did we come from? These are some of many questions that can help define someone’s worldview. The book The History of Rasselas, Prince of Abyssinia by Samuel Johnson, brings up many worldviews. The characters in the book go on a journey to figure out their worldview. Which I think this is the best way to build someone’s worldview.
