Underlines the fact that the problem of graduate unemployment is principally a youth problem, most graduates find a job after some time passes and the main reason behind this fact is that young candidates’ lack of experience. Emphasizes the fact that, most of the graduates struggle to pay their university tuition that has been building up during the education years, as they are not able to earn money due to their unemployment. 1. Encourages all member states to start 10 year programs that will have a deadline of 2026, which will target the sectors that are not enough developed in their states and introduce legislations to the governmental and private universities, in order to decide on the yearly limit of acceptance of students in each branch, to: a. Sustain an efficient number of graduates for the jobs that the state is in need of. b. To prevent accumulation on specific branches and the graduates of such branches being unemployed as there already is an excessive amount of employees in the
In the documentary, “Declining by Degrees: Higher Education at Risk,” explains how going to college is part of the American dream and is a rite of passage. Nowadays, college education is a necessity to survive and reach to middle class. Unfortunately, in this documentary it is mention how teachers concern more on conducting research to increase their pay rather providing quality teaching for the students, which is clearly unfair. The main issue that higher education consist of is the cost of it. In the first article, it stresses how college tuition’s prices have soared sky-rocket over time and makes it very difficult for people to afford this privilege. In the second article, it is about how which college one attends to makes a difference in
The unemployment rate has dramatically increased over the last several months. This increase has created many complications for the American people. Although the United States economy has created over 7 million jobs, there is still a long way to go until the economy is back on track.
The largest cause of unemployment can be attributed to recession. The term recession refers to the backward movement of the economy for a long period. People spend only when they have to. (Nagle 2009). With people spending less there would be less money in circulation therefore, enterprises would suffer financially and people would suffer too. This is so because recession reduces the fiscal bases of enterprises, forcing these enterprises to reduce their workforce through layoffs. These enterprises lay off their workers in order to cut the costs they incur in terms of wage and salary payments.
In addition, opponents of the dream act claim that the 800,000 young people that qualified for DACA are taking jobs that belong to U.S. citizens. The dreamers have a tough fight ahead of them as attorney general Jeff Sessions went on to attack the dreamers uncompanionably by explaining that, because of them “hundreds of thousands of jobs were denied to U.s workers and given to the DACA beneficiaries. The statement made by the attorney general implies that there is an exact number of us jobs available and that the millions of Americans who are currently unemployed can blame fully blame the dreamers without taking into consideration the many factors that contribute to the unemployment of Americans. However it is important to note that the general failed to provide evidence or statistics to support his claim. Therefore, I will point out limitation to his argument by providing clear statistics that show that, the US labor market has been relatively healthy in recent years and even continues to improve. To illustrate, the graph below represents the US unemployment rate. The graph shows that, the US experienced a steady decline in the national unemployment rate, and according to data released in September by the US department of labor, there is an estimated 6.17 million job openings as of July 2017.
Education, “is a prerequisite not only for individual educational success but for upward mobility both socially and economically.” (Reardon 18) Reardon demonstrates the importance of national education, “much of the growth in the economy in recent decades has been in areas requiring moderate to high-level literacy skills, economic growth in the United States relies increasingly on the literacy skills of the labor force.” With the increasing demand for workers with college degrees, American companies may have to look elsewhere for capable workers. In Flannery’s article Ann Shadwick, a NEA delegate, explains that “American employers should not need to import qualified, college-educated employees from other countries. Students here should get what they need to be employable, and their teachers—from K12 onward—should have needed resources and training, especially in technology.” Shadwick brings up a good point, teachers need to be qualified to teach and prepare their students for the
As more and more students graduate, they begin to look for work; hoping for a job capable of paying off their debts and making their chosen degree worthwhile. In America, we are running into the problem of a lack of jobs, requiring a degree or not. From service-jobs to white-collar jobs, "...more than 14 million jobs are vulnerable to being outsources offshore." (Roberts).College graduates that are native to America are struggling to find work due to the outsourcing of jobs, in turn damaging our economy.
The overwhelming cost for higher educational institutions is causing a huge concern over whether higher education will be an attainable financial concept to the ordinary student in the upcoming years. Many Americans now tend to believe that the path to obtaining a degree has turned into distraught with financial traps. Recent studies done by the U.S. Department of Education show that “college tuition and fees have ballooned 1,120% since 1978. A year of college tuition for
He mentioned that most of the entry-level jobs require at least high school credentials. Especially due to today’s current economic conditions, many individuals are forced to take employment that, at one time, was given to people without a high school diploma. In addition, Tyler & Lofstrom (2009) expressed that recent graduates have lower unemployment rates and higher employment rates.
The cost of tuition for higher education is quickly rising. Over half of college freshmen show some concern with how to pay for college. This is the highest this number has been since 1971 (Marill and O’Leary 64-66, 93). The amount of college graduate debt has been rapidly increasing also. With limited jobs available because of the high unemployment rate, college graduates find themselves staying in debt even longer. Although grants and financial aid are available to students, students still struggle to pay for their college tuition. Higher education costs are prohibitively expensive because the state’s revenue is low, the unemployment rate is high, and graduates cannot pay off their student loans.
Sociologists study human society. Their studies include human behavior in many social contexts such as social interaction, social institutions and organization, social change and development (Abraham). Because of the broad spectrum of social circumstances that are studied, unemployment is an issue in which sociologists thrive. Conflict in the areas of age, race, gender, and disability is common among the employed as well as the unemployed. From a sociological perspective, unemployment can be studied through both the Functionalist Theory and Conflict Theory. It also touches upon the results of unemployment in societies and institutions such as family, education, government, and health. Unemployment affects almost everyone to some extent
Since the 2008 financial crisis and the recession that followed in 2009 there has been a high unemployment rate among the youth. Canada’s unemployment rate is sitting at an all high time of 11.8%. (TD Economics) The unemployment rate specifically for youth aged 15 to 24 years old has climbed approximately 24.4%. (TD Economics) The impact of youth unemployment is long lasting and can harm an individual’s career opportunities. Economists have conducted a research which determines that the period of unemployment in an individual’s life will negatively impact them in the future because they will earn lower wages. For example, if you are a college or university graduate in Canada who is in a recession the unemployment rate will rise by about 5%, that implies a loss in earnings of about 9% annually. (TD Economics) If the social
In Robert E. Sullivan, Jr.’s “Greatly Reduced Expectations”, Sullivan discusses the lack of employment available to college graduates. Throughout the essay, testimonials are given by four college graduates who expected more opportunity when they graduated with a four year degree. I sympathize with these men and women who are working in jobs that do promote their ability.
At the same time students today face a higher chance of unemployment after graduation. This
Research has shown the links between unemployment and higher morbidity and mortality rates( Mathers and Schofield) where health outcomes are poorer and premature deaths are
Money is an important component that can help ones to function properly in this society. However, money defines our self-worth and value in this society. For decades, unemployment has become a big issue in our community. The younger generation are the one who suffers the most from the crisis. In 2009 alone, 6.7 million youths joined the ranks of the unemployed, and compare this with an average annual increase of 191,000 in the 10 years before the crisis 1997 to 2007(Elder,2010). Youth unemployment is a crucial issue in our society. Unfortunately, a lot of young people are going through that situation. When it comes to find a job, young people are the less fortunate for many reasons. For instance, some employers might be biased on ages and believes that young people do not have skills or enough experiences to perform at the level required for the jobs. The problem of youth unemployment has many causes and consequences in our society. Youth unemployment can affect the economy, family relationship, increase crime rates and, mental health.
