Personally, I feel like my lesson is good; however, it will under good a lot of editing within my first year of teaching and student teaching. Which I am completely fine with, I like to reflect on my work, picking out portions that worked well and attempting to improve elements that did not. Currently, to prevent behavior problems I have a token reinforcement system in place to promote appropriate behaviors. Additionally, I have consequences that I will make present in my classroom, which include a verbal and/or physical warning (must be recognizable to students and defined in behavioral procedure), loss of privilege, and removal of token reinforce item. In order to decrease the amount of consequences that I need to use in my classroom, I implemented a “take a break” procedure and space. I will create a student centered by creating an environment that operates in collaboration, project-based learning, and conversation between student and teacher. Additionally, I want to supply a great deal of resources in my classroom that are easily accessible to the students. This will empower students to take charge of their learning and start to self-advocate for personal needs. Finally, I want to fully immerse my personality into my classroom. I am a laid back, passionate, hardworking, generous, and humorous individual. These characteristic will be displayed in my warm and nurturing attitude toward my students and my ability to create high expectations for each of them. I remember my favorite teacher vividly even though I sat in her class many years ago. I have so many fond memories of her and took so much from her class. I can only dream of touching a child’s life in the way my favorite teacher touched mine. For just one student to think of me in the same way would make all the years of hard work worth the effort. I also want my students achieve many accomplishments. I want them to use and remember what they have learned in my class. I also want them to have a broad spectrum of knowledge. I want each student to do their best and go as far as they can. I want them to feel a sense of accomplishment and be proud of themselves. I want to be the teacher who is encouraging, supportive, and pushes her students to be their best.
As a teacher, I will work to fully provide opportunities for authentic learning, where every child feels valued, safe and included. My goal will be to find occasions every day to nurture independent learning, along with peer support that promotes a sense of personal growth and achievement. I recognize that every child has strengths and weaknesses, special talents, and specific needs, regardless of individual challenges. Having a student- centered classroom means students are involved in their own learning. A classroom that is student-centered is a classroom in which the students are actively contributed to what they are learning and what the teacher is teaching. In order to create a student centered classroom there must be a safe learning environment in which students feel safe to express themselves with the help of positive reinforcement as well as students knowing it is okay to make mistakes A classroom in which is centered on cooperative learning. Students might be working in groups and discussing information over what they are learning. While they are in groups the students are participating and as well as motivated to show what they know. While being in groups the students are interacting and being social while at the same time demonstrating their knowledge. Student-centered classrooms have students engaged in discussions.
Two of these themes correlate directly with the mission statement previously created; lifelong learner and student empowerment. A student centered candidate who is a lifelong learner would be able to “provide a safe and effective learning environment in order to develop students with active and creative minds, a sense of worldly understanding, critical thinking skills, self-reliance, a compassion for others and a love of learning.” as stated in the mission statement.
Teaching in my classroom will be student-centered and students will be held accountable for their learning and modification of his or her behavior.
Student-centered classrooms have a lot in common with democratic and inclusive classrooms. In both, students take responsibility of their own learning. They work well with their classmates and are invested in gaining new knowledge. The role of the teacher is also similar. Teachers guide students by providing examples and modeling new concepts. They positively play off of individual differences and place emphasis on what strengths each student adds to the class. The content they cover is relevant to the real-word and challenges the students.
Over the course of my time devoted to receiving my degree there has been several aspects of education that I feel left an imprint of my philosophy of education, and two in particular that will remain within my teaching for years to come. One overall aspect that I will implement in the future is one of analyzing my own teaching behavior in order to create a learning environment in which my students can grow and learn within. Some behaviors that a great teacher should possess should include positive reinforcement. “Positive reinforcement is a very powerful and effective tool to help mold and change behavior. An educator’s central goal is to make a difference in their student’s education by setting equal learning opportunities. Teachers are able to achieve success by incorporating different learning styles according to their students.
I as a teachers am committed make my future classroom safe for all my students as well as engage my students through the curriculum as well as getting to know their likes and dislikes. I believe meeting the needs of my classroom, as well as the individual student by one on one interactions. Knowing I will have children with disabilities or language barriers, I will make it were students are comfortable with one another through interaction. Talking will be the highlight in the classroom, along with group work, authentic learning will be key to classroom success. When talking about positive reinforcement, I believe it is a great and effective strategy for teachers to implement in their classroom. In my readings, I found an interesting strategy to keep up the positive reinforcements for students. In this example, a teacher put 10 pennies into her right pocket and moved a penny to her left pocket every time she found a way to recognize the positives in a student.(Kaiser & Rasminsky, 2012) I believe that this strategy would work really well for maintaining positive reinforcement in the classroom. I know that sometimes teachers start off really strong and they fade out the longer they're in the classroom. My classroom philosophy is to give children opportunities to use knowledge that is taught in learning activities. Teaching children behaviors that result in success that can be established and used throughout their lifetime. Being flexible but firm when implementing rules into a classroom is important to see what will work with students, and adjusting when necessary. Knowing each and every student personally so they feel safe and comfortable is important to my classroom management. Encouraging every student to do their best in a positive manner so that we gain trust in each other. I believe in the concept of a classroom community. I will strive to create a comfortable environment where students will feel free to express their needs, personal goals, academic goals and ideas. In this, they will be confident that they will receive respect from their peers and me. With consideration for one another, they will become open to new ideas and values.

I want to be able to make a positive impact on student’s lives. I want all students to feel successful and that they can do and be anything that they want to be if they do their best. I want to give younger students encouragement as many may not receive this outside of the school building. I love to encourage students so that they can reach their potentials. I find it easy to interact with younger students and establish a good rapport with them. This is an important key for student success because if the student sees that you care about them then they are willing to try to do their best for you.
