During my senior year of high school, my paternal grandmother was very ill with cancer. My paternal grandmother would always talk about how happy she would be if I went to UC Davis for my bachelor's degree. She mentioned my older brother’s dream school as a great school for my passions. With her health declining, I decided to fulfil one of her biggest hope and dreams. My grandmother passed away in the summer of 2016 and I knew she would be able to pass on to the afterlife happy, knowing her grandchildren are going to achieve at their highest potential in the future. Although I am grateful for my own achievements, support from my family and where it has taken me, UC Davis was not truly the place I want to be. I truly wanted to attend a school …show more content…
Through travelling, I have developed an interest in understanding new people around me. Travelling helps me practice and achieve my desire to understand other people’s perspectives to build better relations with them. UC Davis has a great community inside the school; however, outside the town of Davis it is difficult to find a community to connect with. The isolation within this town is not beneficial in helping me understand those within the university as well around it. Many students are from the state of California, which does not invite new viewpoints and brings together like-minded individuals. Studying in a new state will allow me to open my mindset and also expose myself to new perspectives to help me connect to more people around the world.
Second, I have a passion for seeking challenges. Academically, it has been a challenging school year, however, I do not feel challenged in my lifestyle here. With the same comfort as my own hometown, college does not feel different from my high school years. Staying comfortable in college demonstrates there was no change in lifestyle. My passion is not satisfied by having a great level of comfort at Davis. By attending college in a different state, I will expose myself to diversity and new challenges, which I will always welcome into my
As a transfer student, I want to feel California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) such as my home. Being ambassador, it is the best to learn about my school, share my experiences, motivate other students to work towards their goals, look for help if they need, show other students our school's resources, and make others feel special for being part of CSUF.
I am a senior at Ontario High School and am expecting to graduate this May. I was born in Querendaro, Mexico and then moved to Ontario, Oregon. While in high school I have already obtained a few college credits at a reduced price, but even though I obtained them at a reduced price it was still challenging to pay for them. In my house, there is my two parents, my two sisters and myself, all living with one parent household income and some help. I also had the advantage to complete the Certified Nursing Program as a high school student through the Allied Health. Since I got the opportunity to obtain these college credits and complete the CNA program while in high school, I took the fullest advantage.
I chose NDSU because I feel like I was pretty well acquainted with the campus during my time in high school. Each summer, for FFA, my chapter, along with others from across the state, spent a week here competing in different agricultural competitions. Also, I talked with alumni from this nursing program, and they all said it was set up very well, and also put them on a track to getting a good job afterwards. When I came for a tour earlier this spring, I got to hear a speech from the Dean of nursing, and I just sort of felt like this was the right place. On a side note, I like being here because of the agricultural side of NDSU as well, even if I’m not necessarily going into a field pertaining to it. It seems more like home to me, when the person next to me, going into Vet Tech, rides horse as much as I did.
As a pre-med hopeful, my criteria for colleges has been the following: the college must have a strong biology program, particularly in genetics, as I plan to major in biology with a concentration in genetics and biotechnology. My ideal college must have a plethora of research opportunities, and it must be affordable for my family. Middle Tennessee State University has met and exceeded all my standards. After applying to colleges with steep tuitions, I realized that I needed to choose a university that would allow me to graduate with little to no debt. My mother had taken courses at MTSU, so I searched the college online and discovered its exceptional biology program. No other Tennessee state school I had researched before had as many in-depth classes as MTSU has.
Who we are is a concoction of our life journey, relationships, tastes, goals, and countless other things. I am a family girl from Mexico who is a first generation college student. My family is the greatest part of who I am. They would give and do anything for me and vice versa. Life has brought me to the construction science program at Texas A&M and I could not be more excited to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!
In my highschool career I spent most of my time at the pool as a swim instructor and lifeguard and surprisingly this was what showed me that caring for children was my passion. By working with these kids and learning how to care for them it only gave me more confidence in my decision to become a pediatrician. This and my personal experience with children really opened my eyes to how what I truly wanted to do going into college was right in front of me. I plan to major in Biology and have a minor in Psychology.UNC Wilmington has an excellent Biology program that I would love to take a part of. Going this to university would be a fantastic opportunity because it is known for its diversity, affordability, and highly ranked programs. When I found UNCW I thought It would be a perfect fit for me.
My curiosity is insatiable. My mom claims that once I was a few months old, I was never satisfied unless I was completely engaged in learning. Not much has changed in the past 18 years as I have spent my life in the pursuit of knowledge. For me, learning has always been about achieving a greater understanding of the world (from the life of Elizabeth II to the neurobiology of junk food addiction) and using that understanding to try to find my place. I believe that UChicago’s philosophy about learning—which prioritizes learning how to think, challenging assumptions, and enriching the world with knowledge—aligns perfectly with my own.
The University of Mississippi is a second home to me, but also a place that continually challenges me on a daily basis to be better, to think outside of normal constraints, and to become a more effective leader. Serving Ole Miss as a student, and eventually as alumni, is so rewarding.
In these dorms, the initial interactions that socially code us throughout college are initiated. These social interactions create and solidify bonds between students that can continue for the rest of their lives. A change to the demographics of the freshman dorms doesn’t just create an immediate effect, but also affects every current and future resident of UC Davis. A freshmen social group that is initially less diverse will lead to a less diverse group of friends throughout the remaining years of their undergraduate studies. This reduces their social group to a less diverse group of individuals, which reduces the chance for them to interact with other cultures and overcome any form of culture shock that they are affected by, whether it be here in UC Davis or later in their careers. Freshmen dorms are the only place that nurtures cultural interaction to create a UC Davis community that is ultimately more unified, accepting, and respectful of all people and their different cultures.
Virginia Tech has been the home for both my brothers through their mechanical engineer degree and their transformation into responsible and hardworking young adults. I am the third of my family to attend Virginia Tech and even before I was accepted the campus already felt like a second home to me. I know the campus extremely well due to the many visits made and the rural location is quite calming and therapeutic when overwhelmed with stress. The distance from my home puts my mind at ease due to the fact that I always have an opportunity to return home if any major problems arise at home. The entire environment given to me by attending Virginia Tech allows a tranquil learning experience where I will be able to complete my short term goal of rapidly adapting to college life and focus on pursuing my chosen major.
After high school, I am going to attend Texas A&M to get an undergraduate degree in public economics and after that I will pursue further education at the Texas A&M Law School. I am going to get a degree in law so that when I graduate I can be a partner in my family's law firm. For the past couple of years I have toyed with the thought of either going to join the marines or being a lawyer but in the end I came to the conclusion that becoming a lawyer was the best bet for me; three generations of my family have done it and I would like to fill their shoes and carry out tradition.
Going to college will be a massive step in my life, even graduating from high school. First off, I plan to major in Accounting and become a Public Certified Accountant. I have been told that it will be hard, just going to class will not cut it. You have to be on top of schoolwork making sure you have it turned in on time and more. I chose K-State University because I could see my future there on campus getting through it all. I thought K-State had the best Business program and so much more. Looking at other colleges wasn’t a bad choice but I couldn’t see myself on their campus as much as I did with K-State. Second, I want to get involved in groups that would be good for me. I do not know all the kinds of groups are on campus but I’m sure I will find out. I hope to start off with
In my last two years of high school, I worked part time at Kroger. After one month of working as a cashier, my manager recognized my leadership and quick learning abilities and promoted me to customer service. From there, I took on more responsibilities and received another promotion to manager of all of the front end operations of the store. I also took a course to become a pharmacy technician and interned at a Walgreens pharmacy for a semester.
From a kid till the end of my senior year of college I was treated as a “princess” my parents never let me do hardships and give me whatever I want. That was why I was so dependent. I can vividly remember when my parents finally let me go and I have to enter adulthood. When I arrived to MSU, it was like “Adulthood 101” to me. I learn how to budget and prioritize what is important, I learn the basic of cooking and finally have responsibilities. This actually shocked myself because I finally become independent, now I have to worry taking care of myself or manage on living on my own. I don’t consider it as a bad thing at all, I actually like this change.
Things often don't go as planned in life, but sometimes it's for the better. I never actually planned on attending Iowa State University, but now that I'm signed up to attend, I can't wait to learn more about myself and develop through classes, clubs, and the NROTC program.
