Each year UPS moved around 6% of United States Gross Domestic products (GDP).UPS delivered its parcels through ground or air delivery system. There is also air-express delivery system for the overnight delivery of parcels. In addition to air and ground package delivery, UPS helps its customers with supply chain management, logistics, and financial services. In order to deliver parcels, UPS relies on a carefully designed network of vehicles, shorting facilities, and hubs as well as the support of a sophisticated IT systems.

The logistics design of UPS has three distinct functions, consolidation, distribution, and fragmentation. Consolidation is the collection of parcels to then be sent to distribution. Distribution works on a hub-to-hub basis with distance determining what mode of transportation will be used (Air or Ground). Fragmentation is the final design step in the UPS logistics design, combined with consolidation for the most part; this function is where products are delivered to their final destination. When a customer calls entrusting UPS with the transport of a package, the distribution process is initiated. The order is accepted and entered in the system. Now the route is planned according to the wishes of the customer, the place and time of departure and the delivery. These operations take place completely automatically after input by the employee. Either the driver gets a pick-up recorded on his log during his route or the next day. This depends on the time the order is taken. Assuming the case of the driver to schedule the pick-up his route, when he picks up the package it is scanned using the Diet. The package is taken to the distribution centre in the evening along with the other pick-ups, where the package is sorted. Here, a scanning (inbound) is also carried out confirming that the package has arrived at the UPS Centre. The next scan (Outbound) follows when the packages are loaded in the feeder.
