I.0 Introduction
There is a large variety of equipment available in today 's market for computer based music creation. If money is not an issue, the technology can give scope to endless possibilities. However, if funds are limited, you can still produce a respectable piece of music using inexpensive equipment. The nature of hardware and software needed is determined by the capacity in which you are intending to use it for and what you are aiming to achieve.
This report will be based on the type of equipment required for the hobbyist with limited funds, to set up a bedroom studio, focusing on the production of digital music. The information will be collected from a range of online sources, in order to investigate hardware and software

The laptops portability and size is also beneficial to the user of a small bedroom where space is limited, but the risks of damage are increased and can be costly to repair, whereas the standalone desktop is considered more durable.
‘Most desktops offer a better price-to-performance ratio’ (Kb.wisc.edu, 2014), they are also the most versatile in terms of upgrading. Although it is possible in many cases to replace the RAM and hard drive in a laptop, a desktop allows for all the main components of a computer
(including the motherboard and CPU) to be upgraded when they become outdated or need to be replaced. Operating system 'An operating system or OS is a software program that enables the computer hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software. Without a computer operating system, a computer and software programs would be useless ' (Computerhope.com, 2014, online).
The most common and reputable OS used in computers is Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS. Internet research suggests that many of the latest DAW software companies recommend Windows 7 or 8 for Microsoft and OS X 10.8/10.9 for Mac.
Microsoft Windows offers the most flexibility in terms of computer choice, as it is not limited to one brand, whereas MacOS will only run on Apple computers. Subsequently, a Windows PC will enable the user on a budget to purchase a computer with the technical specifications needed to run the DAW software at a lower price than an
The perfect solution came around the late 1970s in a format known as MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). In a simple explanation, a MIDI file is a blueprint, which is sent to a reading machine. This machine has various spectrum data programmed corresponding to different instruments. The rather small MIDI file is then read, and interpreted to match the desired synthesized sound. The quality of the sound produced depends on the
The Operating system is one most important parts of anything that runs on technology. It manages the computers memory and processes the information for the software and hardware. There is different operation system for pc, tablets, smart cars, and smartphones.
Computers are an important tool that many students use during college to accomplish tasks for classes. Laptops are commonly used around campuses; however, they don’t always prove to be strong enough to complete all the tasks that college students would like to run. When a laptop isn’t large enough to run all the software a student would like, a desktop computer comes next in power. A desktop computer is capable of more customization to fit the needs of a person with its performance and visuals. Most colleges offer desktop computers that can run advanced programs, however it is not always convenient to a college student to have to go onto campus to use this software. This is why it is more suitable for college students to have their own desktop PC at home.
Hello, my name is Robert Parker, and I was sent over by the IT consultant firm you just hired to give you a comparison and contrast of the three main OS systems you may choose to use within your company. The three we have chosen are Microsoft, Linux and Mac OS. Mas OS has been around the longest, and then Microsoft, these are the main two that most companies use today. Not to say one is better than the other, for it is mainly up to what the company’s mission is and what is needed to accomplish that mission.
There has mostly been much debate over which is the better and most reliable computer to use. There are people who are die-hard Macintosh users, and there are people who are die-hard Window users as well, and naturally people sitting somewhere in between. The fact remains that the most home and business users own Windows-based systems because they are 50% less cheaper than a Macintosh. Windows- based computers are more practical, better software, and versatility for most people than Macintosh computers.
Mac OS X is graphical-based operating system, being released one year before it's Microsoft counterpart.
With time, the PC continued to evolve and newer models offered better speed, color screens, more memory and larger hard drives. Further technical evolution continued to deliver higher speeds, larger storage capacity both internal and external. In addition to the hardware progression, the PC world continued to see progress with operating system solutions and advanced software catering to both large and small businesses as well as the home owner.
Toward Robotic Musicianship by Gil Weinberg and Scott Driscoll discusses research conducted into creating Haile, a robotic percussionist. Haile’s goal was to demonstrate the perceptual, physical, and social aspects of robotic musicianship, which was defined as a “combination of musical, perceptual, and interaction skills with the capacity to produce… responses in a physical and visual manner.” The authors wrote about previous research, which included earlier robotic musicians (stringed instruments, wind instruments, other percussionists) and machine-musicianship development (such as tracking live soloists and changing musical inputs). They also discussed the various challenges they faced in creating Haile, which included creating a robot to
Recordings allow for musicians to play back their songs and listen to themselves. Through playing their work back, they are able to learn what they could improve upon to make their music even better. They can also hear what they are doing well; however, Sousa believes this leads musicians to being mechanical robots (Ross 5). Lastly, one may say mechanical music has made music available to all types of audience.
When shopping for a computer, one can look at the cost and compare it to other models. For instance, individuals usually have less to spend than organizations. The HP Envy model is adequate for companies looking for greater processing power (Intel Turbo Boost) (“HP Pavilion HPE,” 2011). The Dell Studio model is a little expensive; however, this model is adequate for small business and organizations. Similarly, the HP Companies looking for attractiveness will find the MacBook’s unique design quite appealing. Overall, these three models range in price from $649.99 to $1300.00, they are high end products known for quality and
This does not detract the sources useful information as to the advancements of recording studio technology. Bryce Merrill illustrates the interactions between memory and home studio recordings through presenting ethnographic data in his paper, Music to Remember Me By . Merrill creates an interesting argument, supporting the use of home recording studios and their impact upon musicians in regard to wellbeing. The key elements within this article centre on the use of memory in the studio, new technologies, and the practice of home recording. The emphasis on personal experience and a lack of adequate external evidence, however, is apparent within this article which does compromise the validity of the notions presented. Although, it does serve as a great personal case study as Merrill explains his personal perspective of technological changes. More so, Merrill also manifests the personal impact and the necessity to adapt to technological changes, alluded to within Gibson 's article, which is also mentioned by Pinch and Bijsterveld . Therefore, these sources provide an overall solid basis for further research into the effect of technology upon both home and professional recording studios. The advancements made in digital music technology has allowed the accessibility of information on recording knowledge, that was once privy to those within a professional status. Studio engineers have always depended
MIDI technology is significant because it has revolutionized music composition by making it faster and less expensive for professional composers, amateur composers, and music students alike (Webster pars 4). MIDI technology and music annotation software make it extraordinarily easy for anyone to plunk out a melody on the piano or input notes into a computer by pointing and clicking with a mouse, and instantly hear their creation. This tool can be particularly useful for composers writing music for wind band or orchestra, where there are many different instruments that sound at the same time and it can be difficult to conceptualize the desired effect (Webster pars 9). Without MIDI technology, composers would have to wait to hear their compositions until they could hire a group of musicians to perform the piece. In addition, features such as cut and paste and transposition tools save composers precious time as they easily copy certain musical ideas and transpose them into different keys for different instruments (Webster pars 15). Music
Studio technology has developed drastically over the years and has become ever more vital to the record

As you are reading this essay, you are most definitely using a piece of technology whether a laptop or a desktop computer. As we can see in our society, technology is booming in our industry. Every year, technology scientists discover new amazing features that later get implanted into our daily used electronics. These days, one of the most known technology companies like Microsoft and Apple, compete with each other to release what’s best for their customers especially in computers. Apple and Microsoft might be both manufactures and sellers of similar functional computers but, there are many differences in the way their operating systems attract different people with different style. From the different structure of coding, to the same purpose of creating a type of style people feel most comfortable of using. Having a different mechanical structure and it’s components but, with the same functionality it produces. Lastly, getting use to these operating systems on these machines both take time but, which options they provide will depend who’s the buyer.
