The Development Assessment Commission has approved plans by Oceanic Victor to set up a tuna-pen tourist attraction near Granite Island, in the sheltered Victor Harbor bay. A public information meeting was held on the 23rd and comments and feedback was closed on the 31st so the public had only a few days to voice any opinions or concerns which seems inadequate for what could be a public safety matter like this. SA surfers should consider some action over this one as it will affect most of the surfers in that region There are many issues but one of the issue is that it attracts sharks into our popular beaches along the south coast. Because we are feeding the tuna Chum, which is small little fish. The problem is that it will affect our Tourist, …show more content…
The sight from the top of Kleinig's hill as you come into Victor will just be wrecked because of this massive big tank that will be going in the middle of the ocean. As the tourist enter our beautiful town all they will see is a pristine view. There is five tonne of critically endangered Southern Bluefin tune in cages for entertainment the only thing that it will entertain is sharks and seals because there will be more feed for them, not only will it feed the sharks and seals it will leave waste from fish and sediment ion the bottom of the ocean which will kill the sea grass below. Having tuna cage will also make an effect on the causeway for traffic. It's going to affect school groups that come down to our town and do aquatics in our oceans because it won't be safe for kids to go swimming as the sharks will be close by looking for feed. New venture for Victor Harbor on the proposal board that might be of interest to the surfers around there. Although it's not cage diving I guess that with the fish stock it will hold you could say it will be a kind of barley pot. The venture will be moved from the current location in Port Lincoln to Victor because it is closer to more tourists, Again a few individuals chasing some monetary benefit are disregarding the risks associated with their venture to other people in the same
The efforts in restoring the Chesapeake Bay also has importance on economic value. The Chesapeake bay is a commercial and recreational resource for more than 15 million people who live in and near its watershed (drainage basin).” (Atkins & Anderson, 2003). According to the Chesapeake Bay foundation, also known as the CBF; in 2004, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science conducted an study estimated that the Chesapeake Bay contributed $1.23 billion in sales, $717 million in income, and nearly more than 13,000 jobs in Virginia from recreational and commercial fishing
In the Risk to the Region’s Values section of the report, issues connected to shipping and coal ports made up a decent portion of the graph, posing possible to almost certain minor and moderate risks to the environmental and heritage values of the Reef. The image presents a good use of logos, the specifics of the issues further elaborated upon in the appendices, persuading the readers that this is clearly an
I visited the Newport Back Bay Visitors Center. It is located in the Newport Back Bay for people to visit and learn about the wonderful Back Bay that is only steps from our very own school, CDM. The history of the Back Bay goes back a long time. In the 18th century when the Spanish arrived in California places like the Back Bay were very abundant. However by 1975 less than 10% remained in-between Santa Barbra and Mexico. In 1960 plans were made to make the back bay a large marina with houses right along the water. But in 1967 when a group of citizens founded the Friends of Newport Bay they fought to keep this from happening. It was also founded to help bring attention to the ecological importance of the Bay and to help try and ensure its survival. As a result of the Friends of Newport Bay the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve was founded in 1975. Seven years latter in 1982 more land was added at Big Canyon. Five years later, in 1989 what is now known as Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve was established on the neighboring bluffs after the County of Orange acquired an additional 140 acres. Eleven years after in 2000 the Friends and the Naturalists joined forces to become the Newport Bay Naturalists & Friends. Most recently, in 2010 it was elected to change the name of this organization to the Newport Bay Conservancy, which is the name that stands today. The visitor’s center helps inform people of the intricate Back Bay, how it is being preserved,
Scientists have studied the impact of water borne pathogens over time. Just how dependent human life is on the waterways is one such question which arises. The study involves the effect of such pathogens on human life. This study was narrowed down to the area of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay each weekend is occupied for recreational use. Such activities as swimming, fishing, and body surfing are common place. Normally each year thousands of pounds of seafood are distributed from out of the bay. There is a vast amount of people who come to visit the area each year.
Caloundra is a coastal town within the Sunshine coast region, surrounded by beaches such as Bulcock Beach, Kings Beach, Golden Beach, Dicky Beach and the Pumicestone Passage. Caloundra provides a range of outdoor activities, especially as a result of its lush natural environment, promoting a heathy life style and attracting tourism and locals through recreational activities. The local economy of Caloundra is primarily seasonal, and is currently suffering due to competition from surrounding areas such as Kawana Town Centre, South Caloundra (AURA) development, and Maroochydore developments. In response to this, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council has developed a Master Plan to revitalise the CBD of Caloundra, attracting tourism and income back
Waterways are a crucial part of transportation, food and income for many people. The Chesapeake Bay provides hundreds of people with jobs, habitats for a wide variety of animals and transportation for goods. Since John Smith sailed to America and upon entering the Bay said “Within is a country that may have the prerogative over the most pleasant places known, for large and pleasant navigable rivers, heaven and earth never agreed better to frame a place for man's habitation” (John Smith) the Bay has been an integral part of life in the United States. Recently overfishing, invasive species and runoff have led to the declining health of the Bay. Sustainable solutions should and are being implemented to ensure the long lasting health of the Chesapeake
I am writing to you today to explain the habitation loss that has been occurring in Hastings point. Hastings point is a great tourist destination, due it not being full in development and it is close to the beach. Furthermore, discussions about these issues will be throughout this letter to why the council should reject from building more infrastructure, many of these reasons will be due to habitat loss.
1. Ecological Impact issues due to the construction of this port. This being the most important because the disruption of ecological settings will begin as soon as construction begins, so no room to try anything else to minimize this effect.
Chesterfield Inlet and Wager Bay are located in northwestern Hudson Bay within the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut (63°20'N 90°40'W and 65°08'N 87°56'W, respectively). The region is best described as continental-arctic with short cool summers and long cold winters with minimal precipitation (Dufresne, 2013). Average summer temperatures can reach up to 20ºC, while average winter temperatures range from -30ºC to -35ºC. Sea ice forms by December and breaks up by mid-June (Dufresne, 2013). However, ice in Wager Bay according to Canadian Parks Service (1977), can last longer than that of Chesterfield Inlet. The average depths encountered during the sampling program at both Wager Bay was 217 m and Chesterfield inlet was 42 m.
A possible new marine sanctuary in the Potomac River, the Potomac River is home to the “Ghost Fleet of Mallows Bay.” There are two-hundred known ships in the fourteen square mile area of the river adjacent to Charles County. The ships ages range from the Revolutionary War to the present days. Some of the ships are from the largest World War One wooden steam ships build for the American Emergency Fleet. The ships were burned and scuttled in the bay in 1925. Someone from the public committed on the area on Wednesday, experts have highlighted the importance of Mallows Bay. “... a national treasure in the process of being discovered,” said Maritime Historian Donald Shomette. People say that
The Tampa Bay Estuary is essentially the Tampa Bay Watershed. The energy flow and composition of the Tampa Bay Estuary is a complex system of biogeochemical process. Abiotic and Biotic factors regulate biogeochemical process in the estuary. “A food web is in essence a network model of an ecosystem that describes the trophic interactions between species” Liu, Chen, Jordán, Lin, & Wai-Jen Liu, 2010, p. 1 )The energy flow and community composition through trophic levels in the Tampa Bay Estuary bioregion is detailed in this writing assignment.
East Harbor is a 291 hectare back-barrier salt marsh and coastal lagoon that is located within the Cape Cod National Seashore (CCNS), in Truro Massachusetts (Thiet et al. 2014a; Thelen & Thiet, 2009). The East Harbor system was artificially isolated from the Cape Cod Bay in 1868 when the original 1000-ft wide inlet was diked due to the construction of a causeway for use by trains and automobiles (Portnoy et al. 2006). In 1894, a drainage system was installed that allowed freshwater to escape the system (Portnoy et al. 2006). However, no sea water could enter the system due to a one way flapper valve and the exclusion of the tides caused the salinity to decline from 25-30 parts per thousand (ppt) into brackish water with a salinity of around 5 ppt (Portnoy, 2013; Smith & Medeiros, 2013).
In the 1954 film, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, Terry Malloy, played by Marlon Brando, an inarticulate former prizefighter in his late twenties, serves as a petty errand boy for the union head, Johnny Friendly. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from Manhattan, is the setting of the film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film shows realism in many different cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film.
Age.It has been pointed out by Shumway (2001), that organization age could actually help firms to be more efficient, and age can be measured by the number of years since listing. As the organization aged, it helps them to build a name over the years. Moreover, the old age of the organization is a sign of knowing the appraisal value of the particular business due to obsolete and induces organizational decay (Agarwal, Rajshree&Gort, 2002). On the other hand, the success or downfall of a company depends solely on the management of the organization or entity’s.
The plan will be focused on coral reefs around the coastline of Bora Bora (see appendix 3 for details). At this time, the tourism industry is disrupting the ecosystem based on tourism activities. They are mainly focused on the lagoon. For instance, swimming, walking on coral reef and scuba diving. Gabrie et al. (1994) argued that there are conflicts between locals and tourists activities. For instance,
