Vincent van Gogh is one of the world’s most well-known artists. He was the son of a pastor and was brought up in a religious atmosphere. He thought his true calling was to preach the gospel like his father. He became a preacher in a small coal mining town. This is when he starting becoming very interested in the people and things that surrounded him. He became an artist at the age of 27.
In the painting we see two people. We see the farmer holding a hayfork and beside him is a woman. The woman is most likely his daughter. The couple stands in front of a house styled by the “Carpenter Gothic” era. The sun is shining but the couple don’t look like they appreciate the weather or “something else”. They both look very stretched in their faces. The man has a long head and his mouth is like a parenthesis on the wrong side. The woman on the other hand doesn’t look straight at us but instead look to the right. She avoids us and therefore it becomes hard to figure out her thoughts. But judging by her facial expression she is sad and appears limp.
It represented a couple of farmers in front of their house built in the "gothic carpenter" style. Such painting revealed the influence of German and Dutch primitive painters regarding the minute treatment of details, notably in the architecture of the farm. It symbolised the life of pioneers.
The concept of observation can be defined differently. Although, to essentially evaluate; observation is defined as a state of close scrutiny corresponding an item. There is, therefore, no doubt that artists throughout history all observe the functioning world in a different tone, allowing them to approach reality and distortion in a vibrant or creative sound. It is safe to say that many artists look at the space around them only to alter reality prior to reconstructing their piece of art in a distorted sense. Vincent Van Gogh born on March 30, 1853; was one of the most finest, popular, beloved post impressionist painters of all time. His command of colour was magnificent; some of his artworks might include - The Starry Night, Cafe Terrace

So over this week i was told from a teacher from my school that i draw like a child and i have no perspective. This to me was not constructive feedback but an attack on me as an individual artist. I will admit i am not the best drawer in the world but i am trying to become better. At frist my reaction was anger , than came tears. I want everyone to know that no matter what anyone says never stop doing what you love. I always refer back to vincent van gogh , his struggles , his illness yet he still proceeded his passion with at most love. But sadly he took his own life...He never got that chance to see his art flourish the way it has. So when looking at his life and comparing it to my own i understand his struggles and i take his quotes and apply
This oil painting was painted by Vincent Van Gogh in the late 1880’s. At the time, Van Gogh lived in the South of France. The room in this painting is where he would take his meals to eat. Van Gogh thought the room was a clash and contrast of reds and greens. In his painting, these clashing colors were meant to express the “terrible passions of humanity”. Van Gogh also wanted to show how the painted glow of a light could change whites to yellows and pale luminous greens. This painting reminds me of the clay project because this picture appears to be older and ceramics was one of the oldest types of artwork.I choose this artwork by Van Gogh because I thought it was different from most of his paintings he had done. I wanted to know what
The Impressionist painting, “The Meadow at Vetheuil,” was painted by Claude Monet in 1879. The painting measures 32 inches by 39 ¼ inches. Claude Monet used oil on canvas. He was known for painting landscapes and scenes from life in Paris. The city of Vetheuil, where he lived, was northwest of Paris. It was a small village. The impressionistic style of painting came about in the mid 1800’s. Painters who painted in this style used everyday life as their subject matter. Paint was applied to canvases with short brushstrokes that could be seen on the finished painting. There was no blending and smoothing as in the past and wasn’t well received at the time by the art world. The lines in the Monet painting are very subtle. A horizontal line forms on the horizon and through the tree line in the middle. You can see some subtle curved lines at the tree tops. The dominate colors in this artwork are cool greens and blues with hints of warm yellow. They are realistic colors, as what you would see in nature. There are strong contrasts of dark to light throughout the green grass and trees to add depth. Colors are placed right next to each other to help show how light is reflected and to give the first impression of the scene. The color scheme is blue, green and yellow. This painting has realistic, organic tree shapes that have height and depth. The flowers in the front have a very loose representation of a realistic plants. Clouds appear to have curvy, smooth edges. They have depth due to the gray underneath. Textures from brushstrokes become thick to thin in the foreground. Small dabs of darks and lights also bring texture to the painting in the flowers and trees. The artist shows depth in this painting by objects becoming smaller as they recede. He also places the warmer tones in the front and cooler tones in the distance. Colors overlap and there is more definition in the front.
In Art Appreciation on the first week, we watched a video that showed multiple pieces of artwork from Vincent Van Gogh, and it played the song “Vincent” by Don Mclean. This presentation was interesting, and obviously deep. The song seems to be describing Vincent’s life and motives as an artist. The song and display of art made me feel tranquil, or calm and relaxed. I liked the lyrics to the song, but what I find most interesting is how the progress between the different self portraits of Vincent is apparent.
1888- Vincent moves to Arles,France, to create an art school. Van Gogh paints the famous sunflower painting and starts suffering from mental problems. Van Gogh cuts off a portion of his ear and commits himself to a mental asylum in Saint Rémy.
This lesson and whole group discussion will cover the more notable events of Vincent van Gogh’s life, as well as his expressive use of color and movement in his artwork. The students will create their own versions of Starry Night and practice the use of expressive style.

A life full of color ranging from the darkest black to the brightest yellow and days of loneliness without the company of another person is what gave Vincent van Gogh dedication to his artwork through tons of time and unwavering compassion towards his works. Through a tough life experienced many times in the wilderness, Gary Paulsen uses his past experiences to personally reach the creative minds of young children and young adults through writing. When Paulsen was 14, he ran away and joined a carnival. Later in life, he took up dog sled racing, and spent hours in the wilderness, fending for both himself and his dogs. Some of this information can be found in Woodsong by Gary Paulsen. It is an autobiography about
The Wheatfield with crows was painted onto a double square canvas that Vincent had started using in the last few weeks of his life. The painting depicts a cloudy sky over a empty wheat field except for a few black crowes. The wheat field is split by a dirt foot path that forks into three directions with green grass running down both sides of the path. In the sky there are two light blue circles that resemble a moon. The wheat in the field is a golden yellow which contrasts with the dark blue sky that uses a mixture of black, purple and blue. The green grass has been mixed with the yellow of the wheat to create lime green and the dirt path uses a mix of brown and light green. The brush strokes are clearly visible and have not consistent paint thickness no small details are made. The painting is set drawing the day but the sky is darkened by the stormy weather. Vincent talks about some paintings in a letter a the time of this painting “vast fields of wheat under troubled skies”(1). Black crows fly in from the distance from the top left corner and across the centre of the painting.
