Success of an organisation is very much dependent on its leaders. The way the leader leads, manages, communicates and encourages its people, the same is reflected in the results. The man who is at the helm of affairs is likely to play a very important role. His thoughts and actions matter a lot. In one sense he must be dynamic and on the other he must be prophetic, so that challenges of near and far future could be seen and the action be taken in accordance with necessity. Knight founded The Statesman and New Friend of India on 15 January 1875, which later on adopted the current name.
Jawaharlal Nehru was regular reader of The Statesman. The Statesman newspaper was routinely provided to him on every morning even when he was in prison for freedom struggle. Robert Knight, who founded The Statesman in 1875, was one of the early British journalists, who like Silk Backingham, encouraged critical review of the government's action and policies. It was a different kind of practice and due to this it has been separated from other British owned papers. They supported government and also indulged in denunciation of Indians. Robert Knight was very enthusiastic in the formation of Indian National Congress in 1885. The statesman, which was described as The Manchester Guardian of the East had a long list of able and dedicated editors. There were many occasions when it got into trouble with the government and one such occasion was, when Gokhale had to use his influence to rescue its editor, Samuel Ratcliff from government displeasure. So it’s glorified past is indeed known to all.
Circulation and Edition This newspaper is presently having three editions namely The Kolkata edition, The Siliguri Edition and The New Delhi edition. Kolkata edition was started in the year 1875, Siliguri Edition in 1998 and New Delhi Edition in 1931. Presently it is also having a Bangla edition

Leadership is the process of influencing employees to work together towards goals of the organization. Leadership involves motivation, communication and team building. Many times, the plans of leaders do not happen in the way that they were designed to happen. Sometimes, the results can be catastrophic. Leadership derailment is happening more and more in companies around the world. Whether it is from lack of communication to leader’s arrogance, these failures can bring an organization to its knees. For the past couples of month, I have gained a lot of knowledge and learnt about leadership and its challenges.
