War Is Necessary For Our World

I see the pros and cons to each side, and find value within each point. However, looking at the grand scheme of things, I believe war is necessary. Yes, it is violent and gruesome and many innocent lives are lost, but is there a better way? I believe if there was a better way to solve the conflicts many wars are fought over, that this method would be already implemented. The fact is that war works, and has worked for centuries. Take for example arguably the most important war in all of American history. The revolutionary war freed us from Great Britain. Without that very war, we as a nation may still be under British rule and control, and all of history would have been altered. This is not to say that I am a supporter of involvement in specific wars, just a supporter of war in general. I do not believe that each conflict between a nation is means for a war to be fought, but only in the case where peaceful disputes and efforts have failed. My overall view lies similar to Tim O’Brien’s view as he stated in his novel. “It was my view then, and still is, that you don't make war without knowing why. Knowledge of course, is always imperfect, but it seemed to me that when a nation goes to war it must have reasonable confidence in the justice and imperative of its cause. You can't fix your mistakes. Once people are dead, you can't make them undead” (O’Brien 38). There is a time and a place for war.

Wars have impacted the United States greatly on both beneficial and detrimental standards. Throughout the history of the United States this idea of war has played a significant role in the emergence of this prominent country. A politician’s standing policy on the concept of war has held great impact on the political spectrum, many voters hold strong views on war. Some argue we should enact a policy of isolationism, through this we can focus more on the issues within United States instead of other nations. On the other hand many claim being in war is beneficial because we can hold impact on surrounding countries and though wars recreate revenue and jobs

Throughout the history of the United States, there has never been a long period without any sort of confrontation. Whether the confrontation is a problem with in this country or one involving other countries. Warfare as we know it today came from one major war in our country’s history, The American Civil War. The Civil War was the major turning point in our nation’s warfare history, from weapons to battle tactics this war changed our country, and pushed America to achieve what war problems came in the way of the young growing nation. The Civil War was a war that gave this country a new look on how wars were fought, and won with the help of new technology from transportation, communication with new and improved weapons.

It would seem that we desire to be in war to satisfy our thirst for contention and dispute. In an article written by Ryan Chiu it states, “We, as sentient beings, constantly feel the need to exert our own dominance over others – sometimes through more peaceful means, but more often through violent means. Just as crime will be an inevitable part of society as long as humans continue to walk this Earth, wars will be an unavoidable part of international relations, as states are ultimately commanded by human heads of government.” However, many scholars argue that without war there can’t be peace, but is peace something that is attainable? Our purpose here is not to tear each other apart, but we are constantly desirous for more power, more wealth, or more freedom. What we have is never enough; everything has to be bigger and everything has to be better. If we are constantly in war we are going to kill off mankind, instead of preserving it. The definition of war is “a state of armed conflict between different nations, or states, or different groups within a nation, or state.” The phrase “armed conflict” is normally looked at with a negative connotation, as well as all the deaths and debts that come with war. But some wars better a country in the long run, like the Spanish American War. The action of this war began in April of 1898, and ended in August of the same year. If we are speaking technically we could say the foundation of this war began in the late 1400’s, when Spain founded the majority of the western hemisphere. This war lasted (on the battlefield) for only ten weeks, which is very short compared to other wars America has been involved in. America’s power was substantialized in the Caribbean Region because of our positioning in the Pacific, plus we were given the rights to Hawaii because of this war. War is sometimes very necessary to ensure the safety of American civilians. It is occasionally very important that Americans fight for their independence along with supporting allied nations. There is extreme importance in helping allied nations when they go to war. If Americans do not support their allies when they need help their allies will not stand behind America when it is in trouble.      War has taken place all over the world. It is brutal at times even necessary, and the United States of America has seen its own share of wars. We are all aware of the devastation and destruction that war causes, we need only look through the many generations of wars that have come and gone to be reminded as to just how awful. For the magistrates that implement and orchestrate warfare, it is a necessary tool. Due to the level of devastation that warfare causes it is difficult for anyone to fathom any positive aspects surfacing from war. The true advocate of peace will never find a reason to make war worthy. War does boost the economy and the countries with the highest revenue reserved for their military, are also the countries most likely to instigate warfare. War can also be seen as a means of depopulation, whether essential, morally right, or flat out wrong.

For as far back as mankind dates back in it's existence, there has always been and always will be war. History all throughout the world holds numerous acts of war dating all the way back to the early years of civilization, up until even today's most recent problems. I believe war is a perfectly necessary action, especially when a hostile force makes unjustifiable attacks that put the safety of our country at jeopardy. This does not mean that every issue's solution has to be war. Simply, this means you deserve to be able to protect yourself against a bully. Of course there will always be the thought of being able to live in peace and harmony, but is that a realistic goal? There will always be bad guys with guns who wont take no for an

War has undoubtedly changed the vast majority of lives on this planet. Even the technology I am using to communicate this message is a product of war. Alan Turing developed the first computer, which was instrumental in the subsequent decryption of the Enigma code in World War II. The first jet aircraft was manufactured by the Luftwaffe to aid them in the same war, leading to today's primary mode of international travel. Countless medical breakthroughs and techniques are the direct product of war such as MRI, various drugs, and especially the laser. The United States even has a separate department, DARPA, whose contributions to the civilian lifestyle continue to innovate and impress. Many of these innovations, although funded for military reasons, have been invaluable to the human race, and we take them for granted day-to-day. From rockets, GPS, and Penicillin, to synthetic rubber, physics, and national defense, war may be hell, but it is certainly beneficial. The benefits of war are not restricted solely to technology; war is an effective catalyst for a nation's economy.

Talking about war tends to make people feel emotional, feel a sort of adrenaline rush, mad, and even proud. These emotions can at times, in my opinion, bring groups together and separate others because of disagreements on views and beliefs. While it is not easy to talk to anyone about delicate topics such as this one, it is important to acknowledge how war can influence societal behavior and culture. Many can argue that war unites people, particularly speaking of the United States; a country is known for its patriotism and pride when it comes down to its military forces and achievements across nations.

Both The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli and Utopia by Thomas Moore examine the role and the importance of war to maintain a strong and successful society. More (via Hythloday) believes that war should be the last option and is not needed in a safe and happy government without the help of auxiliaries and mercenaries while on the other hand, Machiavelli believes that war plays a crucial war in a prosperous and thriving society using other troops and people to avoid war. Machiavelle uses his belief that war is the way to have a strong successful government to shape the society of Italy while More uses the belief of peace and forbearance of war to shape his utopian society.

Furthermore,war is a state of conflict between different groups that potentially end with death. The action of fighting is used for many untold reasons, none of which are worth fighting for. However, if people could learn how to use their words more effectively, less fighting would take place. War is like a loop it never stops, it continues to go round and round
