Films on Demand: Sociology Collection: Social Institutions
There are different social institutions such as family, education, religion, health care, government, and the economy and work. Each of these are important to society for many reasons. They make people who they are and teaches them how to function in society. Family is where everything should start. Your family is the first form of socialization that you experience as well as the religion that your family is a part of. Religion is another thing that helps to form who you are. The last video that was watched was Lessons from the Real World: Social Issues and Student Involvement. This video was about the different ways that children are learning. In the beginning it talked about how children are expect to be taught something and memorize it then give the information back to the instructor. It goes on to show how children who actually get to get out and experience the information then they are learning better. It is more of a hands on way of learning. It also got the children to interact with the other children and not just read about how something work. They are able to learn and see what goes on.
Each institution influences everyone differently. For me I am influence by my family more than anything. My family is what I look at as to how I am supposed to behave and relate to society. My mother was the one who taught me how to act for an early age so that I knew what was acceptable and what was not. Religion is not really something that has influence me as much as I thought it had. After doing my own research on different religions I am able to look at the different religions that are out there and have an open mind. I again have to credit my mom here because she helped me to understand that just because we are Catholic does not mean that everyone out there is. The last institution that was discussed in this paper was education. This is another
Some of the current changes that can be seen in regards to prescription privileges include changes in the ways that physicians and mental health professionals are able to prescribe medications to their patients. According to Brenda Smith of the APA (2012), currently patients receive their medications for psychological conditions by a physician usually without having been evaluated by a mental health practitioner according to the CDC. The trend includes individuals to visit their general health practitioners in order to receive psychotropic medications such as antidepressants and anxiolytics. The problem with individuals receiving these medications from other sources include: deterrence

Chapter 1 of your textbook includes, on page 9, Table 1.1, “Managing Change: Some Lessons from the Four Stories.” Review the four “lessons” (bullet points) on the table, and think about what some of the key “learning points” you gleaned about change from these stories. Then, do one of two things:1. Post the top three learning points you gleaned from the stories, and include how the stories for change helped you learn these points, or2. Research one of the four companies and see how or if that company has since changed (yet more) since the time of the book’s publication. How did that recent change fit with or not fit in with the “lessons” that the textbook mentions the company “learned” from their original set of changes? Explain what you
A social institution is the area or group where a person lives or grows up. Getting an education creates a social institution because school helps to forming variable for the students who attend. The experience and knowledge a person receives in school, the environment a person grows up around helps them make the choices they make in life and develops what kind of person they become as an adult.

The film One Week, directed by Michael McGowen, has a prominent Canadian theme of how dreams and realities are constantly attempting to overpower each other, which can obstruct one’s happiness. This theme is evident when Ben loses sight of his dreams, during his trip to the West, and with Samantha’s incapability of seeing the reality of her relationship. The theme is first evident when Ben loses sight of his dreams in order to live easily and efficiently. Throughout the movie, there are multiple instances when Ben gives up on his dreams. For example, he does not pursue singing because his teacher harshly criticises his voice at a young age (One Week).

Karkat sighed as he messily slung his bag over his shoulder, Kanaya giving him a perturbed glance. "This building is much bigger than my old schools, how many students go here exactly?" She questioned. Karkat mustered the best smile he could and looked up at her. "You'll be fine, it's only 900 or so."
1.) The most important social institution is Education because it teaches norms and it it could be argued that it preserves order and gives a sense of purpose as well. The reason being because, over summer break many kids don’t know what to do with themselves and they often lay around all day, sometimes to the point of not even knowing what day it is anymore. That can effects the physical and mental health of the kid causing possible weight gain and maybe a depressed state. Without being on that daily schedule, many kids feel kind of lost and purposeless. Also some kids may struggle to find substantial amounts of food over the summer due to financial circumstances, school provides more than just an education for a lot of people. I chose education over the others because education creates opportunities for people to better their situations. For people who have low income, they often can afford to put themselves through school which can help pull themselves out of poverty. Education also, for someone who is not from the states, it can give them a sense of what is acceptable and what is not. School also gives people the opportunity to make social connections with their peers and teachers. It also can teach you how to work in a group, how to meet deadlines, how to follow a dress code, problem solving, how to handle stress, how to overcome adversity, it gives ou a chance to be physically active, how to deal with difficult people or situations, it gives kids and teens
