Under society’s customs for decades, young women have found themselves immersed in the pressure and anticipation to have exemplary bodies. Nearly every young woman prefers to be slim, have a perfectly shaped body, that is beautified by applying pounds of makeup to their face but does not appear ridiculously overdone. Who’s responsible for these measures imposed on young women? When a young girl picks up the model on the cover of Vogue being called flawless, naturally it’s easy for her to then aspire to be a real-life imitation of the that model. These companies produce magazine covers shown with girls’ images daily. As if keeping the perfect body wasn’t hard enough, our culture also forces girls into the forever expanding world of composition, however, body image is a surging subject for young girls. Advertisements and pictures of lean female models are all over. Young women are measured and perplexed by their physical appearances with attire intended to raise their physical structures; social media, magazines, the society, marketing campaigns, advertisements, and the fashion gurus add to a strand of excellence.
In “A Summer Life” Soto is the name of a six-year-old boy who faces a decision between sinning and not fulfilling his sweet tooth desires. This all started when Soto became bored and thought the only way to cure his boredom was through sin. Though Soto knows that sinning is iniquitous he ends up going against all of his religious beliefs and greedily taking the pie for his own longing to eat something sweet. Shortly after, Soto knows stealing the pie was wrong and regrets his decision. In “A Summer Life” Soto shifts from greedy to guilty by using striking imagery, potent ethos, and biblical illusions to recreate his story.
Everyday use is a story that could be interpreted using different kinds of methods: some of those that I will be using to analyze Dee throughout the story are internalized racism, interracial racism, and rugged individualism. Using these methods we could analyze Dee to find out whether she’s right about her keeping the kilt or should Maggie keep the heritage because Dee does not seem to fully understand the true meaning behind the heritage.
At the top of this ad, the words “COVER GIRL” are printed in big size which makes it easy to spot. Under the Cover Girl, consumers can read Cover Girl’s famous slogan “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful” which is meant to send the message that Cover Girl products give them a natural beauty. The color of these logos usually matches the color of the product that they advertise. In this ad, Cover Girl uses the phrase “Insta-Gorgous” to introduce their new product; the ad catches the attention of the younger generation, who is obsessed with social networking, by linking the product to instagram. The add also encourages the viewers to use the product, take pictures and instagram them to #covergirl. The writing on the ad says “ A do-it-all foundation that’s insta-natural, insta-shine free, insta-lasting and insta-gorgeous”, which describes all the qualities that consumers look in a foundation. This is a foundation that gives you a natural beauty and lasts all day long. Cover Girl manipulates women into buying their products by using colorful ads that catch the consumers’ eyes and smart logos that give the consumers the necessary
We all hear about what a teacher did on social media that was inappropriate all over the internet. But we never really hear about the good things. I read an article in Scholastic, about a teacher named Christopher Casal who a technology teacher for an Elementary school in Brooklyn that uses social media in his classroom and the kids are learning from it. Casal works as a technology teacher for the Magnet School of Math, Science and Design Technology. He has taught for many years and decided to bring Twitter into his classroom. Twitter is a social media website where you can make posts that contain 120 characters that can tell others in a few words are doing or thinking. Casal had the brilliant idea of bringing Twitter into his second grade

The Hero’s Journey is a theme I was somewhat familiar with prior to viewing the video. Although I haven’t actually read most of them many of my favorite films are from literary works. Many of them were named in the video. I was able to recognize the similar themes in The Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter.
Because of parents, one can never fall. "Why I live at the P.O." by 'Eudora Welty' and "Everyday Use" by 'Alice Walker' forced me to wonder how parents can choose between their children whom to love, support and give more preference as parents are considered for their unbiased love towards their babies. The point of view, tone, and plot of both stories show that Sister is bold, more clear, independent and, undeviating regarding her behavior, and what she wants, and has no fear to confront anyone against her even upon banished by her family than Maggie, whose fear overpowers her.
This story is about the importance of what the true meaning of heritage is to a family. Heritage help to build principles in families, what a person believes in, their ethics, values and morals of their family. Mrs. Johnson tells of her yard being very clean “like an extended living room” (484), she is very proud of her home. Most people would call her home a rundown home but she is thankful for what she does have and not complaining about what she doesn’t. The land tells a lot about the family’s history, since she values her home, she values her heritage. She believes in having a close net family from the way she “dreams of being on TV” (494). She tells of her daughter
People magazine reported that actress, who has her own skin care line launching in March, stays young and glowing because of a lot of things, including healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and a lot of action under the sheets. She added that being happy is as important.
It was a bright sunny day the sky was a soft shade of blue and there was a slight breeze in the air. Ma and Maggie say their farewells to Dee (Wangero).Dee enters the old aqua 1950 crest liner, the car’s engine revved to life and whirred past and sped down the road. Ordinarily, in the background, Maggie paints a ray of sunshine all over her face, at last, she feels validated.”Come on, let’s go inside. “says Ma. “Huhhhh… okay Mama,” replied Maggie. As soon as they entered the house, the silence in the house was as pure as the wintry blanket outside; it caressed Maggie’s skin like a cool summer breeze, smoothing her soul, taking away her jagged edges.
Family is a noun that means a group consisting parents and children living together in a household, or descendants from common ancestors. All families are unique, but have some things in common with others. My family has a lot in common with the family in Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use”.We also have a few differences. The short story is about a mother and her two loving daughter dee and maggie;Dee goes off to college and completely changes to a new person. Speaking of that my family also has a few differences from them regarding mother, siblings, and heritage.
These beauty products are specifically designed to reactivate women's brains to boost their self-confidence. Sophia Bush is also involved with the I Am That Girl campaign. This is a campaign that helps girls turn self-doubt into self-love through a curriculum that is for women of any ages. There are women in this program with ages ranging from 8-80 years old. Bush’s goal is to tell the stories of women that typically do not get heard outside of specialist charity communities.
It is no secret that in today’s world most people are unhappy with their physical appearance. Women, particularly, struggle with their perception of overweight, unproportioned bodies. Meanwhile, icons such as Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Eva Longoria, and Kim Kardashian flaunt bodies of perfection that every woman dreams of having. Women become obsessed and determined to put themselves through tough weight loss regime to achieve the hot, sexy, beach body look of these celebrities. That is not necessarily a negative because weight loss provides empowering and rewarding outcomes for people’s lives, but there are several different options that people have when it comes to losing weight. For example, liposuction or eating healthy and exercising. It should be no surprise that liposuction is becoming more and more of an acceptable way to lose the extra pounds, but it’s not the best alternative to diet and exercise. When debating on either getting costly liposuction or committing to a rigorous healthy eating and exercise routine, it becomes evident that healthy eating and exercise boast far more benefits; those desiring a Jennifer Lopez beach body should stick to dieting and exercise and should avoid going under the knife to obtain the best overall results.
