Growth- Growth is one of the most aspects to the developmental process. It is responsible for many things such as weight gain, height and the development of the muscles and areas of the brain. One example of how growth can affect development is speech, as it makes a difference to how we speak and the ability to eat, also if a child is very premature then this can affect it's growth dramatically as the child will develop much slower physically and all aspects compared to that of a child who is developing at a normal rate. Diet- A healthy diet is crucial to a child's development. It is recognised now to make a significant difference in the concentration and energy levels in children. They need to feel like they will be comforted and reassured when they feel upset or afraid. Children that have their emotional needs met are not afraid to try out new ideas as they feel like it is a safe and secure environment to do so. Sleep- Sleep is a major factor in supporting a child's development. It contributes towards normal brain function and their cognitive development. You can see the affects in a child when they have not had a sufficient amount of sleep, especially in regards to their behaviour and how they control their emotions. This can then have an affect on their relationship with the people around them. Stimulation- Babies, children and young people need stimulation in order for them to develop, cognitively and also for their physical development. This can include playing, engaging with people and other children and learning certain skills, such as learning to kick a ball.
