What Did Vincent Van Gogh Contribute To Art

Vincent van Gogh is one of the world’s most well-known artists. He was the son of a pastor and was brought up in a religious atmosphere. He thought his true calling was to preach the gospel like his father. He became a preacher in a small coal mining town. This is when he starting becoming very interested in the people and things that surrounded him. He became an artist at the age of 27.

Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous painters of all time. His style was post-impressionism. He was a Dutch man, born in an averaged sized town called Groot-Zundert, Netherlands. The reason he became an artist, and the thing that influenced him the most to become an artist was actually his mother. His mother was interested in nature, she did a lot of drawing and watercolors and that really influenced her son heavily and got him into art. When he was fifteen years old, his family was really struggling with their finances. Because of this, he was forced to get a job and help them provide. It ended up that his uncle owned an art dealership, so he got a job there.

On March 30, 1853 Vincent was born to minister Theodorus Van Gogh and Anna Cornelia Carbentus. He was born in Zundert, Netherlands. Vincent was named after his stillborn brother that had been born exactly a year before Vincent. The name Vincent was actually very common in the Van Gogh family. Vincent shared his name with his uncle and grandfather. He also shared the name with his great great uncle, the sculptor Vincent Van Gogh (1728-1802).

There were many great and famous artists in the world,, some of which weren’t famous until they were dead and the only thing that remained of them was the artwork, Like my artist Van Gogh. Van Gogh was considered a very dark artist. Most of his work was quite depressing to look at so people didn’t like his art until a later time when he started traveling more and started making bright pastel and colorful pieces. That was the first time he was noticed.

Vincent Van Gogh did not become famous until after his death at the age of 37 in July of 1890. He was born in March of 1853. Van Gogh would be known as a troublesome boy who kept to himself and went on long walks through the country side. His mother Anna Cornelia Carbentus and Father Theodorus (Dorus) Van Gogh struggled to understand their eldest son, this constant struggle would shape their relationship and Van Gogh’s life for years to come.

We have seen his works and have marveled at their beauty but the man behind the paintings was just as complex as the brush strokes he used. Vincent Van Gogh lived a life of tragedy, beauty and loneliness. Vincent Van Gogh was a man who craved love and after a few complex relationships he caved and cut his ear off and gave to a brothel prostitute named Rachel, for safe keeping. Van Gogh was made famous well after his death for such works as “Starry Night”, which he painted while being admitted into a mental asylum. Before his death Van Gogh attempted to take his own life, failing he spent his last days with his brother. The works are of art so sought out, that people spend millions of their money to get them for themselves. I do in fact think that this piece was a successful artwork for many reasons. First of all, it followed the principles of design perfectly as well as incorporated many elements of art quite well. Secondly, there were plenty of interesting forms and objects within the piece to capture one's attention quite quickly and keep one’s attention on the piece for at least a couple of minutes.
