We use a single case study methodology to focus on a failed IS project implementation. The study uses grounded theory (Glaser and Strauss 1967; c.f., Charmaz 2013; c.f., Corbin and Strauss 2015) in its focus on principles of emergence by which systematic generation and conceptualization of data provides meaning and relevance to concepts (Glaser and Strauss 1967). In accordance with the recommendations of engaged scholarship by Van de Ven (2007), the project began with the identification of a research problem identified to be relevant to experienced practitioners in leading organizations of IT project management. To develop a base understanding of the challenges experienced in the execution of IT projects, we engaged informally with key industry informants. Observations made in this stage were used to inform the specific research objectives and question put-forth in the Introduction. Specifically, observations were used as data that was conceptualized based on theoretical sensitivity in line with grounded theory (Glaser 1978; Strauss and Corbin 1990). Data complexity was used in the early stages of the research to allow the relevant themes and findings to emerge from the data and to avoid forcing the data to fit existing theories (Urquhart 2013). The conceptual development aspect of grounded theory allows us to discover theory from the data and identify the theories and tenets within that are applicable to IT contexts of interest (Jabareen 2009; Birks et

A grounded theory, which is used frequently in qualitative research, refers to an inductive method of data collection. Inductive means there is no hypothesis at the beginning of the study. I believe this approach would be critical to this research study. How could anyone have a hypothesis on the patient’s feelings prior to actually talking to
The measure of how an IT project impacts the practices of business regarding its strategy is the ultimate value. Effective business cases for business investments indicate the link between IT projects and the strategies of the companies that engage in the same(Wild, Wild, & Han, 2014). Some of the methods that can be used in this assessment by a firm include:
() Grounded theories are the view that investigators enter research setting without preconceived theories and hypotheses about what they will find. However, investigators will give an explanation about what they collected from the scene. () Axiomatic theory uses axioms or truisms as building blocks from which are testable hypotheses that can be derived and tested.
The Glaser and Strauss (1967) method of grounded theory will be used in the analysis of the study. Grounded theory is a methodology that is systematic and involves constructing theory by analyzing data. Grounded theory starts with a question and researchers review the data collected over and over to look for repeated ideas or concepts using doces to group the theories into categories and possibly into new theories (Broadhed, 1983). There are five steps when using grounded theory(p.87:.
Every organization should implement information system to operate their business activities. This article describes how a punctuated process model can analyse a specific information system development (ISD). They also focus on information system project which was implemented in a UK retail small medium sized enterprise (SME). A new technology was being applied instead of previous one. Basically information system method can give us a new realistic and valuable way to realize ISD as a social process. By using information system development, RTD can communicate through organizational work as well as information system building process within the organization. Eventually this change in existing organizational routines can play positive impact on RTD. (Question 3)
* Write clearly and concisely about issues in IT project management using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.

BBUS 521 Enterprise IT Management Case 3: Volkswagen of America Synopsis: Volkswagen of America (VWoA) is the North American subsidiary of VW Automotive Group. They are faced with a common problem of having more funding requirements than available budget. They must come up with a means of prioritizing the over 40 projects that have been proposed by the 10 business units within VWoA, including IT-specific projects. The challenge faced by the chief information officer (CIO) of VWoA, Dr. Uwe Matulovic, is to ensure priorities of projects are aligned to the corporate strategy and that IT projects specifically are a means to enable the strategy and drive business value, and not just be considered an obstacle. Case 3 questions: 1.
According to Munhall (2012), the aim of the grounded theory approach is to generate a
Despite First National Bank (FNB) is one of the fastest growing banks in Midwest, during the created and implement the Information Services Division (ISD), in its project management some problem can be identified. The following these factors are the primary deficient of the project has been tabled: 1) The decision-making process of ISD is too long and high temporal cost of Priority Committee; 2) The organizational structure is not a matrix; 3) The project manager faced many difficulties and challenges; 4) Low involvement of user department. The researchers Pretorius, Steyn, and Jordaan (2012) in their present that “project management success is dependent on the following
Firstly, R.Ryan Nelson (2007) referred to 10 of the most infamous IT projects to assert the importance of making a careful analysis of projects that have occurred to help future projects. In order to attest this opinion, he illustrated the case of United Kingdom’s
In this paper, the author will introduce a failure case of K-Mart 's IT modernization system project. In 2001, K-mart took $1.4 billion dollars into this project with the purpose of competing with its rival Walmart. The dream is beautiful, but the real work is cruel. After 18 months, the project was failed because of lacking of cash. What happened in the detailed for this project? $1.4 billion dollar is huge numbers, why it was still not enough to pay and distribute for this project? How did its project manager do in this project? What are the project problems? How can we learn from the failure of this case? The paper includes the case background introduction, the project development process, the problems in the project, analysis and
In order to achieve their business objective, project management and the used methodology are key factor which will be responsible for the success or failure of this project.
Frenzel (2004) claimed that to be successful, a firm’s IT management team must take action on the following critical areas: business management issues; strategic and competitive issues; planning and implementation concerns; and operational items. If for any reason, the organisation experiences difficulties in the above areas, the manager will need to set goals and objectives to overcome and prevent these issues.
