Project 3 Every year, more than thirty-thousand people are killed by gun and more than 30 people are shot and murdered each day in United States. (Injury Prevention, 2007) And today, gun control became a major issue in our society. Before I started to research about gun control for this project I thought that gun control could be perfect solution for preventing crime. However, after spending time researching information, I found that gun control can’t be the solution for preventing crime and “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people” should be more true than gun control admit. For example, if you take a look at South Korea or Britain, which do not allow any guns, you will see the low murder rate but high crime rate. On the other hand, if you take a look at the state of Texas where pro-gun laws were recently passed which allows citizens to purchase and wear hand guns in holsters on their hips or shoulders in public, you can see the crime rate has gone down. It means that if criminal feel threatened, because the victims may have a gun and they are less to likely attack people. This example shows that how gun control is ineffective because when more people have gun the crime rates actually go down but not go up.
Gun control is ineffective because this is not possession of guns, but misuse of guns. Like I mentioned before “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people”, we cannot expect the criminals to not misuse guns when they have already violated laws and order by their criminal activity. For example, robbers either don’t care about breaking the law or they don’t plan getting caught. A robber is not going to think “I better not rob this store with the gun because it is illegal.” First, robbing a store is illegal but robber is still going to rob the store anyway, so what’s the point of making gun
