What is integrative studies? Integrative studies is the ability to form bridges between different areas of knowledge creating a network of information. Thus, allowing us to see each individual area in it’s own right but also how the areas do or do not function as a whole. A wonderful example of this would be a puzzle. Each individual piece is portraying a specific image or part of an image. Some puzzle pieces fit together while others do not. But once the puzzle is finished not only are you able to see how the individual pieces came together to form an image but you are also see how all together they form a whole a much bigger picture. Even the pieces that do not touch (relate) still have an impact on the situation as a whole. This is what integrative studies is. The ability to pull bits of information and assemble them to accomplish a goal or intent.

In the beginning I chose three minors that I felt would be beneficial to many aspects of life and business. The first chosen was communication. Communication is essential in all that we do, both professionally and socially. Without being able to articulate and receive information properly, we would not be able accumulate or disperse knowledge needed to perform to the best of our abilities. For my second minor I chose public relations. Public relations is how the public perceives an individual or organization. And how person or company responds and communicates to situations pertaining to the individuals it serves.
My first concern while reading Integrative Approaches was, it was overwhelming at times. There were a few chapters which were very long. I had to take notes instead of highlighting. This
Integrated approach to counseling is when you combined theories to cover the clients’ feelings, cognitive patterns, and behavior (Corey, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Pschotherapy 8e, 2009). Each theory focuses one of these key components of a client but in counseling you need to focus on each of these to fully help a client. The key to integrative counseling is to have multiple theories function in harmony (Corey, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Pschotherapy 8e, 2009).
1. The author (Ostrander) emphasizes that students should not stress out over choosing a major. He tells us that what one majors in is less important than the overall qualities, knowledge base, and the skills that one develops. Ostrander also points out that a major is much less important than the skills that people gain by using a quote from an executive, “I look for people who take accountability, responsibility and are good team people over anything else. I can teach the technical.”
Business: A business minor is a really common and a “practical complement” to a Biomedical Engineering
An academic subject that inspires me is pre-law, understanding the factors of life and the choices you make based off self interest is inspiring to understand how people's minds work depending on real life situations. I've always had an interest in understanding how the government is run. It's important to learn as an American citizen your rights to your laws. I will further my interest in college by studying more to have pre-law as my Major. Other opportunities that will benefit me in being universal in the area of law would include philosophy, social science, and Business throughout taking college courses. These majors all connect in the aspect in bettering a community or individual through some type of financial assistance. I intend using Pre-law outside of the classroom after I graduate throughout college
According to Dr. David Sackett, Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of the individual patient. It is a clinical decision-making process in which clinicians use theory-derived, research-based knowledge to inform their decisions about care delivery. Most importantly, consideration of individual needs, preference and resources must be included.
The reason behind why I’ve chosen the major is due to my enjoyment of technology, and being unable to enter related course while in high school like learning about 3D animation or computer hardware. Eventually in eliminating various interest related to software/technology than concluding I will focus my careers in information security. Additionally, if possible incorporate my minor a nontechnical skill set where I will focus the majority of my upper-level courses on international politics with an emphasis on terrorism and interaction with various networks that connect our world. In the future I will like to involve myself in a government agency or private sector whose main cause is in preventing foreign interference in organizational
Contextual thinking involves having an expansive outlook on a situation, relating back to personal experiences, religion, and or culture. In addition, being able to see more than just a small picture but involves the ability to analyze a small concept and develop variations of theories and reasoning reveals critical thinking skills. From past experiences and lessons, I approach interdisciplinary studies from an analytical standpoint. The use of interdisciplinary studies is significant in today’s society. Interdisciplinary studies involve creating your own pathway and constructing knowledge gained in one discipline to another. Being a critical thinking enables me to develop and synthesize ideas in-depth and from varied disciplines. My perspective on interdisciplinary studies is that it functions as an alternative way of acquiring knowledge. Often time’s society focuses on traditional practices of learning, however, who I am as a person allows me to approach interdisciplinary studies from a non-traditional standpoint. From a background nursing, I have acquired efficient knowledge in sciences that allows me to research reasoning and theories through the scientific method to inductive and deductive
Everyone who decides to enroll in college must, at some point, think about what area they want to major in. There are many things that students consider when choosing a major. Some make their decision based on what they think can make them the most money once they begin their lives in the work force. However, many students believe that if you choose a major that interests you and challenges you then you can use those skills that can help you in any career. (R. Landrum & S. Davis, 2014) Let’s face it. Employers know that when they hire someone straight out of college they are not immediately going to know
This integrative review sought to identify and understand the impact of information technology in on medication errors. The review of 14 papers shows that the implementation of medication management systems, which include CPOE, BCMA and automated dispensing machines has successfully reduced medication errors and adverse medication events significantly, particularly the two most susceptible stages of prescription and administration of drugs (Armada et al., 2014).
This essay aims to explore the importance of utilising evidence based care while working with clients and other health care providers to form a professional and reliable nursing team. This essay also aims to focus and evaluate a qualitative article entitled “Patient experiences of bladder problems following stroke” selected from the Nursing Standard. The assignment will adopt a systematic approach to expose the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen qualitative research article. I found this topic quite intriguing after undertaking a clinical placement in a stroke unit and learnt that many people suffered in silence as they found urinary incontinence embarrassing to live with as
The type of study we are carrying out is called participant observation, which is an anthropological research strategy involving the researcher (me) to participate in the group I am studying as I make my observations. My key informant, C.T serves to advise the anthropologist on issues, provide feedback, and warn me against cultural miscues or potential misunderstandings. Over the course of those 4-days you begin to learn about how the group operates, or the culture of the club, which can be described as enculturation. Having C.T. as a key informant helped me get started on a decent rapport with members of the club, thsi is the presence of some understanding between the ethnographer and the club about who I am (the ethnographer), and what I am doing at the club over the next few
opportunities. I started my college career as a business major. During that time, I also
Business Administration The idea of studying business administration has appealed to me greatly and has encouraged me to further develop my education following this path. I have a keen enthusiasm to pursue a degree in Business Administration as I enjoy the challenges it sets and find the many different areas of business you are able to branch out into, very exciting! From research about the subject I'm expecting to greatly further my learning of how businesses operate and be able to then put my knowledge into practice. I am confident within myself and find communication with others easy.
I am planning on pursuing a minor in Business from the Leeds school of business. This minor is attractive to me because companies want engineers with an understanding of how they fit into the company as a whole, and a minor in business can help with this. In addition to this, the business minor takes the rigorous engineering courses that engineers must take into account, and, as a result, they have distilled the entire minor down to just 4 courses and 12 credit hours. The accessibility of the business minor makes it a popular choice for people from all different majors. The first courses are titled Marketing and Management and Finance and Accounting. Next, the student must choose a track from the following options: Innovation, Analytics, Entrepreneurship, and Global. Of these courses, I would be most likely to choose Entrepreneurship, as I like the idea of developing business ventures and taking risks. Finally, the student takes the Capstone course called Business Plan Development. This course is distinctive in that entire curriculum entails splitting up into smaller groups and developing a personalized, complete business plan for your own unique business. Each team is able to use the professor as a resource, and the business school also hires local entrepreneurs as coaches to help the teams along their journey. Each of the teams that wins their section moves on to a next level of competition where they present in front of
