The PAR-Q physical ability questionnaire which stands for Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire, is intended for any individual wanting to start in any physical activity and wants to know more about their physical ability. The entire process takes approximately five minutes and is a quick way of doing some self-assessment. By doing a health risk appraisal questionnaire like the PAR-Q or any other pre-screening questionnaire helps one to see if they are fit for the activity at that moment. It also brings awareness for the presence of risk factors for various conditions such as bone or joint problems or heart and pulmonary problems along with the possibility of metabolic disease and other things that need to be addressed and may require special …show more content…
Do you lose your balance because of dizziness or do you ever lose consciousness? There is a series of seven questions total and the PAR-Q is generally given by personal trainers to new clients or wellness centers will administer a PAR-Q to new members as a safety precaution or possible risk of exercising based on their answers to specific health questions. If the individual answers “yes” to one or more of the seven questions it is recommended they consult with their physician before moving forward in any physical activity. There is no equipment needed for this particular assessment as it is a form of seven health questions that is used to help a person decide if they are ready to exercise. The PAR-Q was originally created by the British Columbia Ministry of Health and was adopted directly from ACSM Standards and Guidelines for Health and Fitness Facilities. It was designed for those who should have medical advice concerning the type of activity that may not be suitable for them. The PAR-Q is used among members and clients between the ages of 15 and 69 and is used as a basic screening tool by fitness facilities, trainers or
The FitnessGram is series of tests used to measure the aerobic capacity, physical endurance, height, weight, and flexibility of students. The FitnessGram isn’t particularly well liked by students, however many teachers do claim taking them allows students to make healthier choices in their lives. The following paragraphs will outline some benefits and drawbacks of FitnessGram testing.
Some paperwork I will have Jane complete is a health appraisal screening. This is to help identify known diseases and possible risk factors associated with coronary artery disease and question if Jane may need medical referral before starting the exercise program. I would have Jane fill out a Par-Q (physical activity readiness questionnaire) form which identifies if individuals are healthy enough to start training or if they need additional medical attention. Another form I would have her fill out is the health/medical questionnaire. This form identifies any diseases, personal medical history, health concerns, medication and lifestyle management. I would then proceed to ask Jane questions to gather a lifestyle inventory so I can understand some of her daily habits and figure if she has any behaviors that are positively or negatively impacting her health. I would ask questions about her diet, stress management, physical activity, and sleep pattern. I
The stregthens of using the PAR-Q with a young/healthy population is that when doing this survey , kids and teenages are able to take a look at their overall ability to do physical activity. A weakness would be that most kids/teenages are fairly active , so the results or the PAR-Q might be a constant NO . That will show that kids/teenages are able to accomplish physical activity and do much more intense workouts.
A person’s level of physical activity is directly related to their physical literacy making it an extremely important topic. Canada’s Active for Life Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model studies a variety of factors regarding the physical activity levels of Canadians. The topics that are studied include, the relationship between physical literacy and exercise behavior and adherence, developmental age, sensitive periods, mental, cognitive, and emotional development, competition, system alignment and integration, and continuous improvement. There are many other resources for finding information regarding people’s physical activity levels, including Statistics Canada; this source has an array of figures, from the annual census, regarding the populations of specific areas. For example, the Moncton, New Brunswick, 2016 census can be used to determine exercise behavior and adherence among local residents by using the figures presented along with other statistics from sources such as Weinberg and Gould’s book Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology.

According to Healthy People 2020, “The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (PAG) released in 2008, was the first-ever publication of national guidelines for physical activity. I think it is essential for students like me, who are interested in becoming Exercise Physiologists or possibly other branches of Allied Health occupations, to be introduced to the different fields of exercise science in order to establish a basic understanding of the relationship between an individual’s health and physical activity. HESC1501 will be extremely important in helping me further develop the basic skills and knowledge, required of accredited Exercise Physiologists, throughout this program. It is crucial to attain hands-on experience in the laboratories in regards to exercise testing techniques, as it will help me reinforce the information taught in lectures. By completing tutorials and clinicals in the Lifestyle Clinic, we will
Good physical health is a vital part of the well-being of every person. A major component of our physical health is “Cardiovascular fitness”. Cardiovascular fitness is the ability of the heart and lungs to provide oxygen to the muscles for activity of an extended duration. If we have a good level of cardio-vascular fitness we are able to sustain activity for a reasonable period of time and not fatigue easily. This can give individuals a variety of health benefits and allow more regular and enjoyable activity to be participated in. This research report will examine my results of cardio-vascular fitness tests and weekly physical activity events, which
Engaging in physical activity has a strong influence on the health and wellbeing of every individual and can reduce the risks of many chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension. Although physical activity cannot reverse the progression of chronic diseases once they begin, it can surely reduce the rate of it’s development but is dependent of one’s lifestyle and engagement in physical activity. It is fact that with age there are a number of physiological and cognitive changes that take place within the body, with some appearing earlier than others. It is understood that losing strength, developing disease, and losing energy are simply a part of the natural aging process (Camicioli et al, 1997). But with the growing number of studies that focus on exercise and life span, body fat loss, increasing strength, and reducing the incidence of certain diseases, through regular exercise over the years, it is becoming clear that inactivity - not aging per se, is one of the primary reasons for most, if not all, types of chronic diseases (Lamy, 2012). However, it is an ongoing challenge to encourage the aging population to engage in physical activity. This may be because of lack of motivation, fear of injury, or lack of time to name a few. Nevertheless, that does not mean that all individuals who make up the aging population – those ages 65 and over – are inactive. The
