The United States Army has a long, and storied history in regards to its past, present, and future Soldiers. The Army has fought battles in every corner of the world. They have entered almost every major military engagement in our world history. We have saved the day. We have lost the day. Best of all we have learned from our experiences, our triumphs, and our failures and become a force to be reckoned with when put into action. Whether it is the infantry Soldier that is running into the face of danger, or the supply specialist supporting the unit with uniforms, weapons, and ammunition, or the “lowly” human resources noncommissioned officer ensuring that the service member’s family is paid survivors benefits by preparing the Soldier with their necessary paperwork beforehand.
What it Means to be a Profession

What it means to be a Profession, let alone a lethal profession, is to be the master of everything the Army stands for. As the military profession, we members as a whole, must provide security for the people of the United States, and uphold the morals and values put down by our Founding Fathers. The military profession inherently adheres to its own code of ethics or moral principles, which makes it distinctive unto itself. The reason the United States Army exists, above all, is to enforce itself and presence with lethal
Many United States military soldiers suffer, not only from health issues, but also physical workload and finding jobs outside of the military. Many soldiers have lost limbs, and tore their bodies apart for what they believe in. A soldier sacrifices his life, his family, and his career for our life, family and careers. The sacrifices made by the soldier that gives everything up is irreplaceable and once they sign their names to that contract there is no going back.
“Support our Troops” is a catchphrase most people in the United States would recognize. Looking at a solider in military uniform, we are automatically trained to think he/she is a “hero” with no questions asked. Contrary to the general belief that all soldiers appreciate the blatant admiration, some soldiers have mixed feelings about this excessive amount of praise. There are a variety of motives why volunteers join the military such as serving the country because of their patriotism and bravery to the monetary benefits the military would provide. As of now, there has been speculation of bringing back the military draft within Congress. The previous drafts only included adult men. But nowadays because equality with women’s rights has grown
One of the biggest discussions in the article, “The Profession of Arms” 2010, is profession. What does the word profession mean? It is defined as someone who “produces uniquely expert work” or “effectiveness, rather than pure efficiency” (p. 2). In my words, profession would consist of years of experience and study in a specific subject to where you become a subject matter expert. For example, in the Human Resources spectrum, we can justify that a Sergeant First Class (SFC) is considered an expert in the field. We assume that they have the training, experience and years to know their profession very well. How does one achieve to such a level of expertise? Well, in the article, it specifies that they “earn the trust of clients through their
I agree with the soldier‘s claim that they should not be forced to fight a war that they are unequipped to fight. The soldiers are being asked to fight in conditions in which they cannot win. The pace of the war was so fast that the army has outpaced the logistics of support. They are far away from home without food. They are running out of ammunition. Many of the soldiers are without boots. They march through swamps and lakes in freezing temperatures. The soldiers may die from exposure and not from actual battle with the enemy.
In my opinion, to be professional means a litany of things. In specific, being professional means: to take your work seriously, to be polite to others, to better yourself through feedback, to be reliable, and to be trustworthy. These are just a few characteristics of a professional.
In order to understand nursing professionalism we have to know the meaning of profession. According to (Black, 2014, p.52) “that a profession is an occupational group with a set of attitudes or behaviors or both”. Professionalism therefore can be defined as individuals expected to display competent and skillful behavior in alignment with their profession.
The answer to this question will vary and it depends on the individual and their beliefs. Personally, I think it is more important to maintain professional standards as opposed to just giving an appearance because it clearly falls under the code of ethics. What does it mean to be a professional? It means to behave ethically, to be honest, treat others with respect, take responsibility, and so on. I believe it is more important to execute, put into effect rather than act. Additionally, the benefit of maintaining professional standards also provides the appearance.
While she had worked for a year, she steadily collected her careers and experiences on her profile and she also took several certificate exams to write on her profile what she got on several parts of exams for her future job interview, application, or resume of company she wants to employ. At this point, people in these days and she tend to be expected to brand themselves under engaging in disciplinary control and this phenomenon could be “personal branding” so their ideal professionalism toward the occupations is not real and they are more likely to accumulate their activities and achievements to display superficially what they have done for the jobs or works they want to employ. According to the article, Professionalism as proxy for business
Discipline, loyalty, honor, these are words that come to mind when you are picturing a Soldier. What you do not think of, is the word profession. When you hear profession, you think of trades like doctors or lawyers. The profession of arms is truly one of the most dedicated professions in the entire world. It provides a sense of security for its people that is unmatched. In order to provide this security there are many, “professions,” inside the profession of arms and the leadership roles that hold it together. One of these jobs is the Human Resources Sergeant. The Human Resources Sergeant runs the S-1 shop and the S-1 plays a vital role in what the Army does today and is the femoral artery of a military organization, without proper
First of all, the biggest problem one man faced, in the Air Force, during deployment was the burn pits. This was basically when anything they did not need of had extra of would be burned. So, every morning morning the outside of the Airmen’s housing and air conditioners would be covered and filled with the soot of all of the objects that were burned. Next, Charles, a soldier in the military, had quite a few problems. He was injured with severe back pain, but the government thought he was just trying to get out of being deployed. They sent him overseas and his pain got worse. He was x-rayed and they found out that he had hip issues, so he was sent back to America. The next problem he faced was using the benefits he received with joining the military. Instead of just going and getting the help he needed he had to go through a long processes of being scheduled with different doctor’s appointments jump through more hoops, to be able to use his Veteran Assistance. Lastly, the last person that volunteered to share their problems, who wishes to remain anonymous, had issues with how long the wait is to be able to get certain appointments. Other than that all three of these men did not have big issues with the government and wanted to put out there that the VA they were promised was what they got, but these three were lucky. The Government
The military has been at war for approximately 15 years now and though the majority of that time has fought two fights on separate fronts. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have placed a great deal of stress on our military and families of military members. As a result, the numerous amounts of deployments in such a small span of time have taken its toll on our Soldiers. It’s not healthy for anyone to live in such a hyper-vigilant state for so long. This type of behavior begins to affect the mind which combined with the actual stress of combat just pushes people past their limits. I like to consider myself a staunch example of someone that is morally and ethically correct.
There are a lot of misconceptions about what it means to be a professional. Some people associated it with the way in which we present ourselves. Others believe only people who hold affluent jobs should be considered professionals. In my opinion, being professional involves one’s actions. The way in which a person treats other people, themselves and their work is how we can distinguish a professional from an amateur.
The United States Army is now considered to be a profession of arms. My occupation title in the military was a Finance Management Specialist
I often fall to the thought that they are here to support us. PERIOD. But I truly believe that when a finance clerk messes up a soldiers pay, it affects him in ways that are unseen. If he has family at home who is depending on that check to live or pay bills with, this will suddenly put a lot of unnecessary stress on him when he needs it least. When a combat arms soldier messes up, the consequences are dire. Lives can be lost and it is devastating. This is why they strive for discipline and proficiency. It is extremely frustrating to see someone sitting back in an air-conditioned office when you are training outside. Does this allow me to talk down to support soldiers? Of course not. They all play vital roles in accomplishing the Army’s mission and are allowed to make mistakes. This state of mind can only be toxic to an organization. If you go online and browse military forums or social media pages, I can almost guarantee that you will see that the combat arms vs support soldier argument in almost every page. This has been leading to citizens who are not even enlisted yet to either come into the military with a toxic attitude; or worse yet, convince themselves not to join so they don’t fall prey to that paradigm. It destroys the cohesiveness that makes our military operate
“Organization is key,” is a phrase I read over and over regarding the paralegal profession. Who would understand organization more than the person who puts their socks in files based on their style? True organization in any profession is highly important however in a paralegal setting it is detrimental. Often paralegals have to handle several cases at a time each with different deadlines. After reading four different articles, one from the American Bar Association, I have learned many different things about the paralegal profession, changed my mind about the area of the profession that interests me and found a couple areas where I can see changes in the profession. Often times one holds an idea about what a profession is all about only to
