When you’re a teenager, you need someone to look up to, you need a mentor. You need an inspiration. This person can be anyone. It could be a teacher, a friend, a sibling, a parent, an aunt or uncle, a grandparent, anyone. For me, this person is my dance teacher Erica Ireland. Webster 's Dictionary defines a mentor as “someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced and often younger person.” Erica fits into that definition. Not only is she my mentor, but she is also my inspiration. Webster’s Dictionary defines an inspiration as “something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create”, or “a force or influence that inspires someone”, as well as “a person, place, …show more content…
Whenever you are feeling down, this person is right by your side, and knows exactly what to say. At this point in my life especially, I need someone that is going to be a good influence. I need to know that there’s someone that is a quick phone call or text message away.
An inspirational person isn’t necessarily someone that just “makes you want to do or create something.” It’s a person that you look up to. We often mimic what our inspiration does. We want to be just like them. You see your inspiration and you think to yourself, “How can I be more like them?”; you are constantly thriving to do things how they do it. This person may often take risks or leaps of faith. You observe them, watch them do whatever it is, and it encourages you to want to do that thing as well. These inspirational people often give you helpful hints in how to go about life by sharing personal experiences, making them very relatable. Often times a mentor can also be an inspiration, but your inspirational person isn’t always a mentor. The biggest influential mentor in my life (aside from my parents) is Erica Ireland by far. Erica is my dance teacher and has always been that person who can make me smile when I’m having one of the worst days. Not only that, but she’s someone that will listen and will make sure that I know everything is going to be okay. She’s been my dance teacher for only about four years, but ever since I started dancing at Studio Dance, I
Criminologist James Fox of Northeastern University predicts that murders committed by teens will skyrocket as the population of kids 10 and under is higher than population of 21st century teens by 20%. (Stephens) Mentoring is the act of helping out someone that isn't as knowledgeable or experienced in different areas. The goal is to make them leaders. (Patterson)
Mentors are people who provide support, strength, and inspiration. Many people have a mentor in their life that they aspire to be like, and seek out for guidance. Mentors play a big role in many lives, including Junior's from The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Some of the biggest mentors for Junior are his parents, his Wellpinit teacher Mr. P and his Rearden basketball coach. If it weren't for these mentors inspiration and support, Junior wouldn't have taken some of the risks he does.
Who is a mentor in your life who shaped who you are today? In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout one of the main characters grow up and mature. Many characters throughout the novel helped her grow. Atticus her father, Jem her brother and Calpurnia all helped scout in many different ways. Without mentors in Scout’s life she wouldn't have people to look up to or to help her become who she is.
We often meet wise people who we trust to guide us. Some consider these individuals to be mentors because they support or influence us in a special way. A mentor can be anyone, such as a someone who guides you through a tough job, or even your mom and dad! What makes all these people similar is that they all have likeable qualities. The qualities that I think make a good mentor are patience, determination, and a good-listener.
I have more than one mentor in my life, teachers and friends that one way or the other helped shape the person that I am today. One person that I will always remember is Mrs. Luz Rodriguez, she was my Supervisor at a hospital where I used to work as a Purchase Agent.
I have had many great mentors that have stood out in my life thus far, but I have one lady that really stands out. Her name is Tina; I know her better as Ms. Hicks. She is a kindergarten teacher and Glee Club director at the middle school I attended. I came to know her really well when I joined the Glee Club my sixth grade year. She is so selfless and always puts others before herself. I just began watching her one day and realized that I wanted to be just like her. I began to volunteer in her classroom the last period of the day because I want to be an elementary school teacher as well. I decided why not learn form the best. Throughout the year, I learned so much from her. She taught me that students can learn and have fun while they
One thing I believe is a necessity in growing up is having a mentor. Having a mentor is, not only, beneficial for the mentee but also the mentor. Being a mentor is a learning experience for everyone participating, it helps people grow as a person and friendships are created when a bond if formed. Some people might think it's a waste of time for a child or that it'll never work out for a troubled delinquent but based on the research I've done, I have proven them wrong. Through-out this paper I will provide the pros and cons of mentoring and how they affect both mentor and mentee. To back up my proposal that mentoring is supporting, I will supply examples to answer the question: Is mentoring really important?
She is a great inspiration to me, and inspires me even more to become a teacher.
My teacher inspired me to go above and beyond my normal capabilities, and to reach out to others that were in distress. He inspired me to become a better leader, a better person, and a good role model for many kids in the classes below me. David Glasscock was his name, he is a generous man he invests in other to provide them with the tools necessary to be successful. Without his words of advice, I most likely wouldn´t be the same person that I am today.
My high school art teacher, Jackie Tingle, inspired me to create and further my education in art. Through her constructive criticism and her wonderful teaching skills she easily allowed me to develop my own skills as an artist. In a world full of two-dimensional characters, I found it amazing that she was a successful artist. Before I met her, I did not know it was even remotely possible to have a career in art. To this day, I still have respect for her and how she carries herself. Even at times when students treated her disrespectfully she remained professional.
Many people have influenced me to be where I am right now, these people include my mother who pushes me to my potential, especially at the times when I need it most. Another great influence I go would be my own athletic trainer Jaime, who has not only taken care if me my four years of high school, but has showed me what it would be like to be her, and what it takes to get to that point. Without Jaime as one of my major influences, I most likely would be undecided and not know what career path I wish to pursue. I have very few friends in which I can consider close, my best friend Deanna is without a doubt one of the top in my life, she has been with me through everything and makes sure to check me when I am slacking. I am very grateful for
The teachers, they can point to and say, “That individual assisted me in becoming the person I am today.” For me, I have one special person that I can do that to. This individual is not only my favorite teacher, but very influential in my life. Katie Josef, my Ed Tech teacher, has shown me what true passion for the field of education looks like. I witness her upbeat personality, and get to experience the kindness she exuberates to her students on a daily basis. She drives the individuals in her class to succeed to their best ability. She inspires me to become an outstanding teacher in whatever field I choose to pursue. Mrs. J has shown me what a teacher that cares for her students truly looks like. With the love and support she shows, it is no mystery how she creates unbreakable bonds with her students- bonds that last for many years, even after a student's graduation. I desire to create these same bonds with my future
One archetypical character that has influenced my life would be my grade ten math teacher. I would describe him as a mentor because he taught me both things relating to math and about subjects that revolve around self-improvement. He taught me how to find the slope of a graph and how to find the upward slope of happiness in life. He turned the wheels in me for a thirst to get healthier by lifting weights and eating naturally. And with that thirst, he also replenished my need for a goal to work towards which is one of the greatest things anyone has ever done for me. I was a lowly Initiate just like the countless other people he helped make happy. Sometimes you need a good laugh and bringing out the fun in people is one of the skills that he
Who has motivated you in your life? Hearing this two people came to mind. The first person is Bob Colegrove. He teaches people how to play a card game called Magic The Gathering. He also teaches people how to play Dungeons and Dragons. People have learned many other games from him too. They can't wait to learn more. The reason people look up to him for motivation is because they want to be just like him. He has a cool job, an awesome apartment, cool parents, and the best little brother. The second person who came to mind is Justin Burt. He has had to deal with serious issues. Through all that though he always had a smile. He taught people to play Halo, Call of Duty, and others. The reason people look up to him for motivation is because he has
As part of my introduction, I would like to mention that my research project is about mentoring where I have chosen ‘questioning’ as my strategy. In this report, I will discuss in detail about my ‘Mentoring through Questioning’, which is a key for my research project report. Here, I will cover the project’s context in which it was set, my aims and focus of the project, my justification on why I have chosen mentoring through questioning and the types of questions being used during this project, in support of the relevant literature. And then eventually, I will mention about the interactive sessions between a mentor and mentee, the reflection or the perspectives, specifying the self-analysis as well as the required feedback from mentee as part of the research strategy. Later, I will conclude this report by mentioning about the effectiveness of mentoring sessions and the future actions planned for my skills development.
