1. What should you do about continuing to do business with Marshall?
As a Christian business owner, the standard to which I am called exceeds that of the traditional business ethics model in that I am called to honor God first and foremost. This is achieved by actively pursuing God’s blessings on business through prayer, and trusting Him to provide strategic direction, resources, and earnings (Casey, 2013). One way to honor God through business is to establish trust in all interactions. Trust emanates from the direct relationship Christians have with God. Proverbs teaches believers to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight”

Coupled with the fact of the breach of trust and unprincipled business dealings, it is best to discontinue the supplier-client relationship. 2. If you elect to stop doing business with Marshall, what legal causes of action might he bring against your company, what damages or remedies might he seek, and what legal defenses might your company have?
During the interaction of evaluating business ties with Marshall, claims of interest were brought forth such as a supplier contract and requirements of implied duty and good faith in fair dealing in compliance with the Universal Commercial Code (UCC). The supplier-client contract in question is not legally binding due to the fact that it was not signed by a legal representative of the company. In addition, the contract was signed by a minor. “The limitations on a minor 's ability to contract are established to protect innocent third parties and ignorant or immature first parties. If a minor makes a foolish business decision out of immaturity or ignorance, the contract may be voided on the basis of a lack of capacity to contract” (Net Industries, n.d.). Alabama code §26-1-1 stipulates that “the age of majority is designated as 19 years” (FindLaw, n.d.). The contract issue aside, the reference to “implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing” still stands. “In
The purpose of this paper is to show that Revelational Christian Ethics is a viable metaethical approach to Business. This ethical theory is a prescriptive and a concrete expression of objective reality. It exemplifies the core values and teachings of Jesus Christ as the foundation of morality and guiding principles for ethical conduct, treatment of others, as well corporate leadership decisions that affect the environment, community, and economics.
Countries disintegrate, place of worship and corporation fail, people become dysfunctional, descendants lose their direction, and mankind drift from God on behalf of one distracting reason; insufficiency of leadership. These disappointments are often for the reason that of the deficiency of instruction, appropriate leadership, and misperception on what Christian leadership subsists and exactly how that leadership is pertinent to every component of professional and personal life. From a Christian worldview perspective, Psalm 112:5 explains, “A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion” (NKJ). A Christian manager should always keep in mind that bounteousness and admiration for God, demonstrates that one has placed trust in Him, and not our material possessions.
A reputation for honesty is a comprehensive statement of both a person's character and how he or she treats others. It is a fundamental mindset against stealing, lying, or deceiving. (Cotton, 2012). Honesty is a standard that God expects all Christians to uphold. Romans 12:17 says, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody." As a Christian, honestly is not just doing the right thing at the right time, it is a way of life. There should be no exception for the way a Christian business is run including its marketing management. (Henderson, 2007).
Wayne Grudem wrote the book ‘Business for the Glory of God,’ this book is based on biblical teachings. The book discusses issues such as ownership, productivity, employment, commercial transactions, profit, money, inequality of possessions, competition, borrowing and lending, attitudes of heart and effect on world poverty from a biblical standpoint, each are “fundamentally good and provides many opportunities for glorifying God but also many temptations to sin.” (Grudem, 2003, p. 19) Grudem claims that business can glorify God. He states “I am going to argue that many aspects of business activity are
The biblical basis for business enterprise is to know God and know your values. This is very important for Christian business owners. As long as they know what their principles and values are, this way they will be able to make good conscious decisions and stand their ground.
Christians are called to the higher purpose of fulfilling a spiritual life in accordance to God’s will (II Timothy 1:9 New Living Translation, NLT). At the same time Christians are a part of society and therefore participate in the wealth of the economy. Although some have challenged business is morally neutral, business can be a wonderful way to bring glory to God (Grudem, 2003). This is possible when Christians apply their Christian worldview and abide by a code of conduct constructed from this worldview (Ruddell, 2004). This paper will examine the process of constructing an ethics program based on a Christian worldview.
According to Duzer (2012), In pursuit of God’s purpose, people need to understand the ethical limitations embedded naturally in design of the God’s creation. It is not enough too simply align our businesses purposes with God earthly design, without limitation we still fall short of Gods expectations. God’s creation purpose for business includes businesses that serve the community in a positive way that strides to serve all citizens according to God’s plan. For example, a business might be able to produce more goods and services that would enable the community to flourish. It might create more vocationally rich jobs for its employees by disregarding its duty to provide return to its shareholders (Duzer,
Careful analysis of the corporate code of ethics, applicable laws, and Scripture provided clear solutions for managers to take to avoid these incidents. First, provide employees the code of ethics, train them to follow the codes, supervise the work of the engineers, and immediately correct violations. Second, take similar steps regarding the knowledge and application of law. Third, Christians must conduct themselves within the construct of God’s Word and these principles should provide an example for others to follow.
The book, “Business for the Glory of God”, By Wayne Grudem, is a book that gives insight to how business as a whole can be a blessing to the world. God gave His people abilities to conduct business in order to glorify Him. Grudem explains that business and the attributes of business are “fundamentally good” and provides many opportunities for glorifying God, but also many temptations to sin. He gives a biblical and moral standing point
The article make a link between the nonspiritual and Biblical principles within which business that will be considered responsible and just should follow to. It is going to draw from principles enlisted by the Caux Round Table and those by White. (White, 1978) Caux focus mainly on the secular section of the principles without putting any emphasis on any one religion but rather as a guidance for proper business dealings for the improvement of society and not just benefit the one conducting it alone White drew his principles from teachings in the Bible therefore caters to those business with practicing Christian stakeholders. These two are drawn from what can be seen as
Personal religious beliefs should impact all decisions about business ethics. If your beliefs are truly mandated in your life, then you have no choice but to be fair and honest about your business decisions. Business decisions can sometimes be difficult and harsh, but that is no reason to comprise the integrity of what you believe in.
Through these nine key concepts, Dr. Grudem illustrates how a variety of business techniques, when implemented in a Godly manner, allow those to pose certain characteristics of God. Grudem isn’t naïve, though. He does, after all, explain that in every aspect of business there are multiple layers of opportunities to give glory to God, as well as multiple temptations to sin (Grudem, 2003, p. 17). He is also aware about the easy ways these activities can be perverted and used as a means to sin ("Business for the," 2003). This book is tailored to echo God’s glory in relation to correlation with employees, co-workers, customers, and other businesses involved in the business unity. Furthermore, it does not only promote a positive impact within the business realm, but also in the personal realm of one’s life in business.
The very establishment of guidelines about how an MNC should act, which are ethical guidelines, is one way in which this is accomplished. Namely, by setting ethical principles such as the aforementioned, which the business should follow, prioritizes the spiritual life over the business life. This is a clear commitment to justice, in other words, since fairness in the dealings with others, a basic respect for their fundamental rights as persons, defines all possible business relations. Any business practice which goes against these guidelines should be rejected. This is a witnessing, a Christian witnessing, to the message of Christ that prioritizes the spiritual world and its ethical commitments over the material world of
Marshall received a signature on a contract from a seventeen year old minor in which he hopes to enforce. From a legal standpoint, minors have a limited ability to enter into contracts. The seventeen year old minor employee can void the contract he signed at any time. Minors have the option to do this because of laws made to protect them
Business shepherds are called by God in various duties and stewardship within His Kingdom, giving them differing talents and abilities. The stewardship of the shepherd’s roles and talents determine success in the eyes of God. Success is the dominion in one’s sphere through obedience to God’s will. Obedience to God’s will flows out of our relationship with Jesus, and in that relationship, obedience is not a daunting task, on the contrary, it is a complete willingness to glorify God.
