A little about myself. Where to start? Currently, I am a Sergeant with a small police department at a state community college with over 10,000 students and five campuses. I keep pretty busy with my full-time job and being on call every other week. I spend a lot of my off time with my two boys who are 11 and 13. They are part of the reason why I decided to go back school. I completed my associates in management and was working on another associates degree in networking and communications but opted to pursue my bachelors in emergency management.
Also, I served in the Marine Corps for twelve years as a ground to air missile systems operator. Loved every minute of it and I miss it dearly. I moved on from the Marine Corps and worked as a federal
Throughout my two and a half years in Navy Junior ROTC, I have grown in both knowledge and respect for the
To accomplish anything in life, you must set goals. These goals must be realistic and achievable. Two years ago, I was at a point in my life that I never believed I would see. I was finally at my associate’s degree graduation day. Becoming at teen mom at 17, college had never even crossed my mind. This was a moment in my life where I was able to not be your average teen mom statistic. Continuing to better my life and my daughter’s I set a new goal after graduation to achieve my bachelor’s degree. After speaking with UMUC counselors, I decided to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Social Science with a minor in Emergency Management. Currently, I am in my final two classes at UMUC with a scheduled graduation date of May 15.
Finally, my career moved back to teaching. It began with a substitute teaching and a long-term sub position as an EBD English Teacher. I found the experience to be very rewarding. I learned that there was a greater ability to get to know my students and a chance to make a more significant difference in students with special challenges.
I served in the United States Army for almost seven years. I loved every minute of it. Well, I might not have enjoyed every minute, but I enjoyed the majority of my time served. The knowledge, insight, training, education and experience
First off i would like to state a well known quote known by all Marines, "Non Commissioned Officers (NCO's) are the backbone of the United States Marine Corps." Without the NCO's the Marine Corps could not function. This quote alone holds a great deal of history as well as gives a brief discription of what a Marine NCO truely is.
“I began working part-time on a regular basis at the age of 13. After high school, I talked my way into a job as a runner at the Chicago Board of Trade. A runner is the person who runs all the buy and sell orders to the brokers in the pits. I have been successful in blue collar jobs, such as roofing and painting, as well as white collar jobs, such as being an account executive for a national mortgage lender. At the age of 21, I decided to attend college and later graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in telecommunications management. I am currently working on a master’s degree and am married with two children.”
In 2008, I joined the world’s finest Navy to support my country. Throughout my naval journey onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, I met and worked with many different people from
In May of 2005 I finally accomplished something that really meant a lot not only to me and my family, but to the people of the United States of America. Even while being in Iraq from April 2007 to November 2007 and losing a brother in arms while I was there I still felt honor. After finding out I will be a dad in June 2008 I became a Non Commissioned officer July 1st and a married man by July 2nd. Once August 2008 came I found myself saying yes to four more years. Once August 2012 came I was a well-established family man who became a marine vet who is instilled with nothing but honor, courage, and
My background is a military one, that is riddled with fighting, leaving home, and death. “Sempre Fi” has always been a common household saying in my mother's family, considering her two older brothers were US Marines. When I was a little girl, my uncles were deported to the Gulf of Mexico to fight in Desert Storm, and that was a terrifying point in my youth life. On my father’s side, the Air Force was the branch our family adored. My great grandfather was a pilot and so was my grandfather. To this day, my grandfather is my hero but unfortunately died early due to pancreatic cancer. Flying and the water have always run through my blood and always will. The Navy was the one branch that I could combine my love for flight and water into one.
I have served in the Marine Corps for Eight and a half years. I happened to choose a job where most people don’t volunteer to Enlist into. I have spent my entire career as an Infantryman. This job that I choose to become part of has brought me to many places. Most people join the Marine Corps to see the world, but I wanted to fight. I was afforded the opportunity to partake in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom covering both theaters our nation is at war with. Throughout those years many things have begun to change. We are no longer actively engaged in armed conflict, and with that comes many changes with rules, regulations, and standards. Our country is in an interesting time with political correctness over shadowing
My name is Nathaniel, people usually call me Nate. I am full-time employee and a student. I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. I work full time in security. I have 5 brothers and 5 sisters when I am not working or studying I help and take care of my brothers, sisters and my grandparents. My family, job, and studying keeps me very busy. I believe that psychology will help me in my career in law enforcement.
I joined the Marine Corps looking for a challenge. I wanted to open doors for a new career and longed to have a positive impact on the world around me. Looking back five years later, I realize I found all that I originally sought, but I’ve also found something profoundly satisfying and meaningful that I never knew I was missing.
and long-suffering sacrifice. Many have joked that the Marine Corps is not a military branch but
I am Michelle, this is my 3rd, 8-week session in my academic career. I am going to school to obtain my Associates Degree in Accounting and then move on to a Bachelors in Business, at least that is what I am saying for now. I may change my mind and get Bachelors in Accounting, I am not sure yet. I have worked in various law offices in the past and 2 semi-large companies in my career. My last position was with a light bulb manufacturer. I have been married for 16 ½ years to a wonderful retired military man. We have two children 21 and 6, and have just moved to Florida from Ohio 3 weeks ago. This move has been our retirement goal for many years. I currently take 3 courses each 8-week session, therefore, I do not have
When I graduated from high school, I was admitted at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I enrolled in the School of Business. My major was Accounting. I did so to please my parents and what I thought would be the best fit. I was not very happy, and I must confess that I was bored to death. After two years of studying something that I did not like, I changed my focus to School of Social Work. I was taking elective classes in Social Work/Mental Health Counseling and realize that this field held my interest and really represented how I viewed myself and the world. I was out from College for 5 years. Working with the Department of Social Services and numerous nonprofit organizations. For the last 5 years I have been working as a Social Worker for Department of Social Service Child Protective Service Investigator. I actual love my job because it is customer (client) oriented and I got to practice my counseling skills indirectly and directly with my clients I encounter on an daily
