Why Are Gun Laws Important

The Statement by Molly Ivins on Page 318 Carrying a gun is a big issue not only just in the United State, but everywhere. There are to three different categories of people who have different perspectives from each others about carrying guns. The first group such as Molly Ivins, think that carrying guns is very important nowadays for some reasons such as people need to defend themselves, their properties or they can use it for the urgent time. Meaning, sometimes they cannot wait for the police to come. For example, If there is a thief wants to steal something from someone’s house and the owner of the house doesn't have a gun and call the police.

The American society has for long struggle with the debate and issue of private gun ownership. There are the advocates proposing lenient laws to allow more gun possession while the people against it calling for stringent laws to control the situation. For many centuries, since the enactment of the Second Amendment and even during the slavery period, gun ownership remains an issue to debate. The negative effects have been the harassment of the minority and the vulnerable as well as increased crimes. On other hand, it has helped promote the security of the people and ensure there is no violation of people’s rights to own guns as required by the Second Amendment. As such, gun control and ownership remains a controversial and hot topic of discussion

The most common reason why people argue that they need to have a gun is for safety, so they can protect themselves against burglars. If a burglar would come into your house, you would have a better chance defending yourself and your family with a gun, than if you did not have a gun. The number of concealed weapon owners is at an all time high. In comparison the number of homicides had drastically decreased alongside the growing rate of legal concealed weapons. This number had been nearly cut in half in the past 20 years(Goldberg).

The issue of gun control dates back to the 17th century. There have been debates whether the government of the United States should adopt gun control or not and whether it is good for its citizens or not. As a result, two opposing groups have been formed; one supporting guns control and the other one against. According to statistics a big percentage of crimes committed in the United States are as a result of possession of guns and other firearms among citizens. In surveys carried out since 1999, over 20% of gun owners said that they owned the guns for protection. According to them, they use the guns to protect themselves against the increasing crimes. However, not all gun owners use the guns for protection; some use them to commit crimes thereby bringing in the issue of gun control. The United States government need to formulate laws and regulations to control gun ownership especially pro-guns (Spitzer p34-35).

When I think of a gun that looks amazing usually has a nice blue finish to the metal. That is not the only type of finish there is, but what is the reason behind finishing. When I thought about it before the only thought that came to mind is, to help protect the gun along with the price of the gun would go up. Everyone is looking to make a dollar somehow. If not only with a time but also with skills. I think that’s about all we all could give.

We the people are forming this Declaration of Gun Rights and Control in order to shed light and encourage gun control and stop senseless violence. The purpose of the Declaration of Gun Rights and Control is to regulate and/or ban the manufacture, sale, possession and use of firearms by civilians. The reasons for creating this declaration includes the need to stop mass shootings to protect citizens, clarifying the second amendment of the Constitution so that it is not used as an excuse to “bear arms,” and saving lives because of regulation. The Declaration of Gun Rights and Control is needed to restrict gun ownership and protect our people. According to CNN, gun violence kills 90 Americans every day. This is the time for the families

According to the lecture on Gun Violence, there are currently over 300 million guns in the possession of private citizen. Americans have over 75 guns per 100 people, whereas other western countries range from 5 to 30 guns per 100 people (2007 small arms survey). Gun violence is a major issue in the United States due to lack of gun control. The lack of gun control makes handguns too readily available to citizens, allows those who should not own a firearm the ability to purchase firearms, and no policy on secure storage of firearms. As a result, I conclude that a combination of restriction of private ownership of handguns and stricter background check and storage policy would eliminate some of the violence caused by guns. Controversy on the right to have and bear arms brings into question the cost in human lives for the protections of the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution . At issue is whether personal gun ownership promotes a safer home and community environment, or whether guns and gun availability correlate with increasing violent crime. Violent crime in the United States has been steadily declining for over the past two decades. However, most serious violent crime in the United States is perpetrated with guns and statistics have indicated a sharp increase in 2015. By proposing a gun crime prevention strategy to reduce such serious violent crime, violent crime will dramatically decrease.

The gun control debate has grown more heated than ever after the February 14th school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The question on everyone’s minds is, does America still need the second amendment? The answer may be yes, but it needs to be more restrictive than it is now. For example, one can buy an assault rifle when they are 18 but cannot drink or buy a handgun until they are 21 years old. Why can someone be able to buy an AR-15 when they are considered not mentally ready to consume alcohol? Why are ordinary citizens allowed to buy an assault rifle at all? Gun control should be more restrictive because studies have proven that America is far more prone to gun violence, which is most likely caused by Americans having an excess of firearms. However, the background check is not necessary.

The United States Gun laws need to be actively strengthened to protect and prevent harm against citizens by creating more thorough background checks, mental health checks, and more licenses specifically for different types of assault weapons. Several mass shootings have been caused by legally purchased guns caused by background checks without intensive research. With stricter gun laws harm and massive tragedies would be prevented or have more protection and safety. New laws and mandates would change the environment of gun safety and protection.

- For decades gun control has always been a very controversial issue in America. The Second Amendment states it is an individual's right to bare arms and by having stronger laws on guns, that would only be taking their right away, However, we have seen violent crimes rise due to guns, we have seen many people lose their lives and get hurt. Americans should be for gun control because it can help prevent school shootings, stronger regulations can help stop gun loopholes, and stronger laws can make it harder for people that have a bad record to get a gun. With the enormous amount of violence in today's society, individuals need to take a stand demanding stricter regulations on guns.

Another one of my values is safety. Police, fire, and other emergency services should be readably available at all times. Any members acting out towards citizens should be punished through termination, fines, and possible jail time based on offense. With all the police brutality scandals in the news, I find this to be extremely important. All emergency personal should be required to have a chest and dash camera on at all times. Film should be reviewed on a weekly basis in a meeting with the emergency responder. Throughout our country many officers are being called in to question. Often these accounts revolve around a white police officer assaulting and even killing African Americans. More recently, it has even included white supremacists

We all want to live safe and secure, and to be able to live without fear. This is one of the human rights that should be protected by diplomats, congressmen, senators, presidents, and ect. However, there is many people that will give that up just to fulfill their desires for shooting. On the other hand, you have the NRA making it very easy for anyone to get there hands on a gun just to fill their banks. There is many horrible side effects to this being manifested to society. We live in a time where so many people have easy access to guns. There has never been more school shootings, mass murders, terrorist attacks, and ect. In the past decade or so, Americans had experienced epidemic level of gun violence taking place in every corner of country. Actually owning gun is legal in the USA, it’s actually our second amendment; the right to bare firearms. Approximately 300 million Americans held gun in their homes.

Most Americans who support the Second amendment agree that it guarantees all people to own guns for their protection against threats that may invade their homes. For many years, the American people have owned guns, but they are required by the law to register their firearms. The case of Heller vs. the district of Colombia gave Americans of Texas state the power to purchase guns without much interference by the state (Lund, 2015).
