Los Angeles Schools Closed Los Angeles schools are closed because of a terrorist threat that turned out to be a hoax. These terrorist threats have affected these schools in California. This all happened on December 15. They opened schools on Wednesday December 16. The main thing that happened was that schools in Los Angeles received terrorist threats and decided to close schools to keep people safe. It was one day after the treat that they decided to close the schools. They closed more than 900 schools. They decided to inspect more than 1,500 websites. After they found out that the sites were safe they decided to open the schools. The FBI was the ones who found that the threat was not real. Even though they terrorist threat was fake it still
After the attacks, many myths started to surface about why this happened. Some of the myths included that is were revenge for arresting Timothy McVeigh. The attack happened one day after the Oklahoma City bombing. Another was that is was because it was Hitler’s birthday. Others say it was because of al the violence in video game and T.V. that drove them to this. What were the actual reasons, only Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris will know.
Students were confused because they thought that the shooters were in the school. According to police, the shooter went towards the school but did not actually
They savagely murder thirteen high school students and staff, and before ending their own lives in the library, injure many more such as Patrick Ireland, who was shot in the head yet somehow, clinging to life, managed to survive and graduate as valedictorian the next year. Cassie Bernall, one of the Columbine students who was murdered by Dylan Klebold, was long regarded as a martyr, yet it was actually another high school student, Columbine survivor Valeen Schnurr, was the one who was actually asked if she believed in God by Dylan. When Valeen said yes, she was shot by Dylan and survived, later telling her story to others. Coach Dave Sanders, who was shot during the initial attack, survived for a few hours before succumbing to blood loss. His family sued the police as it was shown he could’ve been saved by S.W.A.T but wasn’t.
Airports did the best that they could with this shock and made as many changes as fast as they could. The airport said, “We went from 0 to 100 overnight in terms of what we had to do for security'" (Thackeray 1). The next couple of days the security workers had there work cut out for them and had to work vigorously to achieve what authority was telling them. They did the best job that they could with the time they had. Many people with scheduled flights were having trouble after this attack because the airport was in a frenzy and trying there hardest to keep things in order. According to some workers at the airport, "...some terminals at the three airports were deluged with passengers, most of whom encountered only frustration" (Levy 1). Frustration is expected with all the chaos that was going on with people trying to stick to a schedule, and also with workers trying to obey the rules. Ms. Zbinden has frustration as she spends a lot of money on trips to the airport,"'It cost me $40 to get here,' Ms. Zbinden said. 'I'm not going to keep going back and forth" (2). Ms. Zbinden was spending to much money to keep going to the airport and then having the flight be canceled so she shared her frustration with the workers. Sadly the workers can only follow rules not change them. With this big of an attack the airports decided to have backup undercover cops int he airport. An excellent idea from
The Government's Response to the Oklahoma City Bombing The Oklahoma City Bombing affected many Americans, including the President of the United States. From the start the White House immediately dispatched the FBI. The initial reaction was to close the airports, but that would infringe on civil liberties. Government intervention with this tragedy would help many victims' family members cope with the loss of their loved ones.
On April 19th 1995 the worst terrorist attack on US soil took place in the heartland of America. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was targeted and almost completely blown to pieces by one enormous homemade bomb. The unthinkable had happened at the beginning of an average day at the office. This day would be remembered for the rest of America's history, unlike any other day, as a blatant attack on the United States government.
CNN reporters were getting many interviews from students some students that weren’t even at school that day and didn’t even know of the killers. But students came forward saying they knew the “TCM” was behind the attack. No one asked how they knew they just published and broadcasted the story.
In total, 49 people lost their lives, just because of who they were and a man’s hatred towards that. In this paragraph, information about some of the victims will be told. Brenda McCool, 49, a mother of 12 lost her life that night while she danced with her son at the club. Akya Murray was 18 when her life was violently taken away from her that night, and she was the youngest victim. She had a full ride scholarship to a Pennsylvania college and unfortunately died the Monday after she graduated high school. Jonathan Camuy, 24, was an assistant producer for Telemundo in Orlando. He was working on a show for children called “La Voz Kids” before his death that day. Luis Vielma, an NBCUniversal employee also died with him that night. Shane Evan Tomlinson was the manager and lead singer for Frequency Band. Xavier Emmanuel Serrano Rosado was a 35-year-old father who worked at Disney Live! and had a son who recently graduated from Pre-K before his death. These are just a few of the many victims of this
As soon as the news hit the country, there was shock. So many different articles with different reports and claims, most of which turned out to be false, were released onto the masses. However, after fact finding and checking was done, there was a lot to be learned about. First and foremost, how potential shooters are characterized was changed. “There is no profile”(page 322) This information changed how people in school were viewed, at least after research was done. The first reaction was very different. Across the country every
This horrid event resulted in years of investigation to figure out what could have possibly caused a person to commit such a terrible murder. Our country dissected this event and found a lot of disturbing information. For instance, the two shooters had been plotting their attack strictly towards their classmates and teachers for about a year before everything went down. More investigation showed that the intended date for the massacre was April 19th, the fourth anniversary of the Oklahoma bombings. They were intrigued with this terroristic act and that's why their massacre was supposed to be a bombing instead of a shooting. However, their plans to gather ammunition fell through resulting in the massacre to happen a day later. Also, they found
The exact reason of why the committed this crime to this day is unclear. The personal journals of the two perpetrators referenced that they wanted the event to compete with those of the Oklahoma City bombing and other deadly events that happened in the United States around the 1900s. The attack is known as the deadliest High School shooting in the history of the United States.
First of all, schools should not start later because that would mean that they would
On April 20th of the year 1999, two high school students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went armed into Columbine High School with guns, knives, and a multitude of bombs. The result was the slaughter of twelve students and one teacher. The gunners also turned the guns
The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization were allegedly acting the U.S. in retaliation for their support of Israel, their involvement in the Persian Gulf War and their military presence in the Middle East. Some of the terrorists lived in the United States for more than a year and had taken flying lessons at American flight schools. The others had snuck into the country in the months before September 11th and were considered the “muscle” in the operation. They smuggled box-cutters and knives through the loose security at three East Coast airports and boarded four different airliners bound for California, they chose these flights because they were filled with jet fuel for the long flight across the country. After takeoff, they raided the cockpit of the planes and took control, doing this turned the normal passenger jets into huge missiles.
As a result, many more people to include fire fighters lost their lives during the collapse of the World Trade Center. Through all this chaos, a fourth plane had been on hijacked; the delay of departure allowed for the passengers to learn of the events that occurred with the other three planes. The passengers of the fourth plane sacrifice their lives to prevent the hijackers from hitting their next target. It was discovered that attacks were the results America’s part in the Persian Gulf War. The hijackers were discovered to be Islamic terrorists who received funding from the Osama Bin Laden’s organization. This deadly massacre caused America to take some drastic measures in different departments. Department of Homeland Security, aviation and US Customs and Immigration immediately made changes that would help to prevent from any future terrorist attacks.
