One of the biggest reasons for my desire to attend a Service Academy is the opportunity to study and grow with some of the best young men and women America has produced. Having been homeschooled my entire adolescent life, I have been quite sheltered from socialized academics. My classroom time during my duel enrollment at Palm Beach State College, and Broward College stunned me as to the individuals I was surrounded by. Most of the students were unmotivated, they did care about their academic success. They seemed as zombies going about their studies with a perfunctory attitude. This both scared me and gave me a sense of drive to soar above those who did not care. My father frequently coached me about life, he told me, “Son you are the product …show more content…
I knew if I stayed around these people I would become one of them. Instead I knew I would have to pull myself out and away from people with these attitudes. Being a senior in homeschool I knew I had little time to choose a college that would best suit my interests. I had planned on getting a degree and then going to a service branch officer candidate school. One afternoon I was studying at my local library, taking a break from my studying I began researching the top schools in the country knowing that the individuals who attended these institutions would not have toxic behavior. I stumbled across a link of “Americas best and brightest students – Academy Graduates” or something to that nature. I had no idea what this academy meant. I was immediately intrigued and began reading the article. I had never even heard of a military service academy, I did not even know they existed. Reading the small bits from the article opened my eyes to a new realm of learning and growth. I was hooked and immediately began searching for books about the service
One of these individuals is my dad. My dad graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and has served in the Air Force for over 20 years. I have a sense of the challenges from his experiences that I will face at a service academy. People often ask why I want to go to a service academy, knowing what I am going to be facing and my answer is always the same; I want to protect the freedom that others have protected for me. I want to join the Americans, living and deceased, who have fought to protect our
I had originally thought higher education and military service were mutually exclusive until I learned about the top level education provided at the various officer academies. I highly value knowledge and intellect and have always strived to distinguish myself from others in the areas of mathematics and science. I believe that the Naval Academy will provide me a an excellent learning environment with other cadets that also value education, hard work, and moral integrity. The academy also gives me an opportunity to become a commissioned Naval Officer. Becoming a Naval Officer and serving the country in the U.S. Navy will help me become a more knowledgeable and stronger individual, allow me protect this country while honoring all the men and women who have served in this nation's military since 1775, and making sure this country’s veteran’s sacrifices were not in
In September, I had the opportunity to visit the Naval Academy for a “Candidate Visit Weekend.” During my two-night visit, I was paired with a current midshipman, whom I accompanied to classes, meals, and a sports practice. Personally experiencing daily life at the Academy and meeting current midshipmen has reinforced my desire to join their ranks. The most inspiring thing about the midshipmen I met was the effort that they put into succeeding. Being a part of this culture, even for two days, has shown me that I can work just a little harder, and that I can push myself just a little further. Since returning home, I have done just that in numerous ways.
I would like to attend a military academy because I would like to be the best that I can be, while at the same time, serving my country. Education at the AFA is comparable to the best universities in the country, including my prospective major, Astronautical Engineering; so, the service academy is an excellent academic choice for me. Additionally, only the best-of-the-best attend these academies, and being surrounded by such great people will be terrific to make new friends and network.
I have aspired to attend a service academy since I entered high school in 2012. My interest in attending a service academy is derived from my goal to serve as an officer in the military. While many other universities offer quality educations, the service academies teach beyond the typical academic subjects. The academies instil values of duty, country, and honor in each individual that graduates from the academies. Furthermore, he academies are challenging programs with a commitment to serving the nation upon graduation and I am sure I am up to the challenge. Another reason that I want to attend a service academy is, throughout my life as a military child, countless service members have inspired me to join the military with their selflessness
ct to gain from the Air Force Academy experience and how will it help you in your Air Force career? (250 to 300 words, 3000 characters max)
The reason why I want to attend the U.S. Service Academies is not only the goldmine of opportunity I will receive of an educational standpoint including benefits, but also the enrichment of character and self-development, into becoming one of the nation's most exemplary citizens through attending a military academy.
Service academies have proved throughout history that they are capable of producing some of the most influential military leaders . One example being Chester Nimitz , a fleet admiral in world war two who was the commander in chief of the pacific fleet. Chester Nimitz was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and there he received what has become my reasons for attending a service academy. I wish to attend a service academy because its alumni have proven repeatedly to have received quality education, preparation and a challenge that prepared them for the stresses of leading troops in difficult times.
My primary reason for wanting to attend West Point Military Academy and serve as an active duty U.S. Army officer is to become the best version of myself that I can possibly be and to further hone my innate abilities and unique skill set to serve my country to the best of my ability, and help make the world a better place both on and off the battlefield.
My story begins with two successful Nigerian immigrants. Both of my parents came to the United States, obtained graduate degrees here, and became successful despite any struggles they faced. With them as my example, I was expected to be a hard worker and, as a Catholic, a kind and moral person. In addition to my household, my Catholic high school has strongly influenced my beliefs and actions. My high school, St. Michael, has become a spiritual home for me. The amazing teachers I have had have helped me develop a strong faith life and a passion for service. I have found that being in an environment where service is so encouraged only invigorates and strengthens the penchant for service I developed in my household. I have gained some of my closest
Before I joined the program, I was an average student and didn't realize the importance of education and patriotism and education. I never cared and was very irresponsible. I joined knowing I needed the discipline to get my act together. Within the first day, I learned to be alert, because we did physical training and I did not have proper gear; Luckily, they provided me with clothes and I enjoyed it because we mostly played basketball and football. After a
Leadership Development, and the desire to serve my country are two main reasons that have guided my life towards wanting to attend a service academy. Always having to ability to demonstrate great leadership has been an extraordinary part of my life. I have had the opportunity to meet past graduates, and they showed me how services academies take special pride in developing there cadets into fine young men and women. The United States Military Academy produced several people (ex: Robert E Lee, Ulysses S. Grant) who are not only prodigious leaders, but have had a tremendous impact on the U.S.A itself. Personally, I have always believed that everybody has the duty to serve their country in some sort of way. Being able to attend a Service Academy
However, I knew I was here to make a difference, so I flourished in service. My “Service and Leadership” Residential Learning Community, have been volunteering with Scholars with Diverse Abilities, March of Dimes, and OASIS. These three organization taught me the definition of serving all mankind. Spending time with people from all different walks of life, has taught me: that you will meet people along the way who will have different beliefs than me, but you must respect them, because that is what makes us all unique. I learned that when I am committed to something I will go to any length to reach my goal. Service takes up much of my time, but, I still make time for study hall and tutoring. I ended up making the Dean’s list my first
I spent hours looking at all of the service academies, researching and discovering what a life after the service academy would be like. I looked at what being an officer meant, the responsibilities that i would have, the men that i would lead, and the men that i would follow. I read about career oppurtunities and the strengths of the academic programs that would me to be successful both during and after a military career. I discovered that my high aspirations for being an officer in the miitary were more reachable than i thought, but it would take a lt of hard work. I presented the school to my parents, neither of them military, but both having fathers in the military, and they were instantly very supportive of me. The summer following my sophomore year my family and i took a trip up to Annapolis to take a tour of the campus to see if it is where i actually wanted to go. While touring i felt like it was were i belonged and I almost refused to leave, but i knew that i had to go home and do my best in everything i did. While on the campus for a week long Navy track and field camp, i noticed that there was a sense of a bond very similar to that of a
Many people don’t understand how important serving is. I have found that at some schools, serving is important and is required to graduate. Service is the action of helping or doing work for someone. Serving can help others learn more about the world and help them position into a mature adult. Although service is required sometimes, people should serve by choice. Service hours are designed to help students grow in a relationship with God as well as discovering new ways to serve and help others.
