Give two examples of the steps Ray Kroc took to build the franchise business that the McDonald brothers didn’t take. Ray Kroc had shown the leadership skills Dick and Maurice McDonald lacked throughout his time spent with the corporation. He had proven himself to be a leader by taking steps the McDonalds brothers failed to do. Kroc had first bought his own franchise where he recruited sharp and well suited workers and then later gained exclusive rights to McDonalds and was able to sell more franchises than the McDonalds brothers ever could. Although he did sacrifice extensively throughout the first years of his journey with the company, he later found great success. Although the McDonalds brothers contributions were great, their vision and …show more content…
Henry Ford had only allowed Model T cars and when he had finally allowed the creation of a Model A car, they had lacked the qualities of other company cars which led to a shrinkage of market share.
How did both Henry Ford and Henry Ford II violate the Law of Empowerment? How did this affect their company?
Henry Ford and Henry Ford II violated the Law of Empowerment because rather than acknowledging their leaders, they chose to undermine and destroy them. As soon as either of the men felt threatened, they were quick to take action and destroyed them in the best ways possible. They made sure to keep their workers in check while also restricting them of the resources and acknowledgment they deserve.
Give an example of how a leader in your profession or area of service has violated the Law of Empowerment, and how it has affected his or her organization.
One example of a leader that has violated the Law of Empowerment is leaders like Hitler. They had great power and chose to degrade those different from him. He not only degraded them, but murdered thousands of Jews because of the thought that all were a problem. He saw them as a threat, so he got rid of

Some leaders violate the Law of Empowerment because they feel threatened and want to maintain leadership. Another reason leaders violate the Law of Empowerment is due to fear of change. Leaders must embrace change and desire it so that they are able to improve their organizations. Along with this is a lack in self-worth. If a leader is unable to believe in himself and continuously worry over what other think, he is not fit to be a leader thus is unable to give others power and take care of their fellow leaders.
Which reason on why leaders don't share their authority is most prevalent in your profession or area of service? Give examples.
One of the reasons on why leaders don’t share their authority that is most prevalent is in lack of self-worth. At times, I feel inadequate or shy about what I have accomplished. This restricts me from showing others what I am capable of and possible expansions my peers can bring on my ideas. While working on projects for example, I find it difficult to share my ideas or thoughts at first because I feel they would be joked upon. I worry greatly on what others think of me and my work which comes with a great disadvantage that needs to be improved
Thesis: A leader is someone a citizen looks up to, someone to guide and give protection but most importantly someone who works for the benefit of the whole community. But what if a leader were to abuse such a power for own selfish purposes and to manipulate the community for the benefit of the leader? In the novel, The Handmaids tale and the film V for Vendetta, The head of the country lead a totalitarian state to keep the proletariats in line through
He was granted a licence to be a franchisee and opened his first store in Des Plaines near Chicago, Illinois in 1955. By 1959 he and the McDonald brothers had 100 restaurants running. In 1961 Kroc brought the rights of the McDonalds restaurants from the brothers for $2.7 million. 9 years later, he had over 1,000 restaurants in America, Canada and Puerto Rico. Kroc then made the decision to expand stores faster and further away, by 1972 he had opened an additional 1,000 restaurants worldwide.
Do you feel that your leaders ever fail to use their authority in the way you believe they should? James Madison believes that government is power, and since humans are in charge of the right, it always has the ability of being misused. Communities revert to chaos when the authority figures abuse the influence they have. Madison’s argument is correct because people in general need strong rulers, so if the privilege given to the superiors is exploited, society begins to break down.
After Lincoln was assassinated, vise president Andrew Johnson stepped into office with a goal to change some of the things he believed in. In the article Andrew Johnson it states, “Next they passed measures dealing with the former slaves. Johnson vetoed the legislation. The Radicals mustered enough votes in Congress to pass legislation over his veto--the first time that

More than any single person of the last century, Henry Ford can take responsibility for creating the American middle class. We can thank him or curse him, but either way, we have to acknowledge the impact Henry Ford had on our society.
followers to freely choose whether to follow the leader or not. Unless followers have some choice to follow or not follow, leaders cannot lead.
As you can see having power has more advantages than disadvantages, but one of the main problems is that you can have the power and still not be an effective leader. When you have the authority, leaders often feel that they can say anything to make the people believe that they are correct. Most of the time people are blinded by the power, that they are often bamboozled to what is actually right. They feel that people with power can do no wrong; they will always be fair and truthful, when most who hold the power are not honest people at all. It goes to show you that just because you have the power, it doesn’t make you an effective leader, it just makes you the boss. Being in a situation where you have worked hard and not given the credit, due to the fact that you have had a manager with power that doesn’t want you to excel is an obstacle that many people working in society face today. So called leaders who hold their power
There are different types of leaders and also mentors; examples of famous leaders are Nelson Mandela, Adolf Hitler, Abraham Lincoln Barrack Obama, examples of mentors are Socrates who mentored Aristotle who subsequently mentored Alexander the Great.
While an individual may exercise power without being a formal leader in any company, an individual can 't be a leader without having force. In any association,
McDonald’s began as a barbeque, and the brothers strictly offered burgers, fries, and pop. Ray Kroc heard about McDonald’s one day and went to visit the restaurant. Kroc was surprised by their efficiency and the quality of the food. Kroc liked the fact that the brothers could focus on the quality of food, due to the limited menu items. Subsequently Kroc realized their success could amount to much more and shared his vision. Kroc told the McDonald brothers that McDonald’s could be a national business serving people across the country. (At this point, Kroc did not even think about being international). Dick and Mac were thrilled with what they heard, so in 1955 Kroc founded the McDonald’s Corporation and opened the first McDonald’s in Des Plaines, Illinois. By 1960 Kroc had bought exclusive rights to McDonald’s. In 1961, Kroc developed Hamburger University where new employees were trained on how to run a successful McDonald's. Kroc wanted to develop the most efficient methods to store, cook, and sell food, so he had a laboratory built at Hamburger University where students' test different ways to make McDonald's more productive. Hamburger University is still in use today in the search for ways to better McDonald’s. McDonald’s had their first sit-down restaurant in 1962, and then in 1975, McDonald’s had opened their first drive-thru restaurant in Arizona. The first drive-thru restaurant was
The leader and follower relationship is looked at as winners and losers, when it is actually a symbiotic association. (Chaleff) Leaders cannot exist without followers and followers cannot exist without a leader. Leaders can forget that they need the backing of a solid team of followers in order to succeed. Because they make the “important” decisions and enjoy an astronomical rate of pay, it is easy to overlook the loyal, hard working individuals that make everything happen under them. Followers too can forget that they are a valuable element of a successful organization, and that their feedback and ideas are welcome.
Kroc's idea of the way to develop McDonald's into a profit was to sell an operating service to partners. This revolutionary way of doing things, instead of just supplying franchisees with milk-shake formula and ice cream, is what led to
Empowerment is an important tool for progression and FWD needs to exercise it often when expecting employees to work together towards a global objective. Empowerment can be defined as providing employees the chance to exercise autonomy in making decisions (Vogt, 1997), which is rarely implemented at FWD.
The concept of power is an applicable leadership concept. Leaders use power to decipher whether they have the ability to acquire the commitment or obedience from their workers/officers. Leaders that are educated or trained under the old-paradigm, have low levels of expectations of others around them, and tend to use
