Why I Wanted to Pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administration
The decision to pursue an MBA was a process that started in 1998. At that time, I was newly married and had been a Physical Therapist for eight years. I have experienced working in various settings, but what I discovered was that not one setting had all the attributes that I wanted in order to sustain my interest until retirement.
Working in a hospital or acute care setting is good academically. I was able to have plenty of face time with the physicians and even had the opportunity to observe orthopedic

Basically, it is an MBA program geared toward clinicians wanting to go into healthcare management. I apparently fit the profile of a typically student in that program. The tuition is cheaper and I will have graduated earlier since this program only requires 36 credits, instead of 36 + 15. I thought about this for about two days. I weighed my options based on the long term outlook of an MBA in Healthcare Management versus a degree in Clinical Practice Management. I decided to stay with my original decision of getting an MBA. I feel that an MBA will open more doors for me because this degree is universally recognizable. Clinical Practice Management, I feel, is relatively unknown. It seems to me that I would have to explain to a potential employer what this degree is all about, whereas an MBA is immediately recognized.
Because I have made a decision about the direction of my career, I defined what would get me closer to my goal. I intend to get into healthcare management, because I liked what I have done as a manager. I have had the opportunity to delve into various decision-making situations and problem-solving modes, and I have come out of them wiser and better suited for the next managerial opportunity. Other degree choices will not work for me because they will not get me closer to my goal. The Jungian Personality Test showed me that I have the right personality to be a
I am interested in pursuing a degree in business because there are a variety of job opportunities within the field. My parents also owned their own business, which was the main reason I wanted to pursue a business degree. I was inspired by their work ethics, and how they overcame their struggles and obtained success within their business and recognition in society. Originally, my major was in management. However, I have recently become more interested in an ISOM major after attending an Ask the Professionals event. This is because ISOM combines both business skills and IT skills to give you a unique skill set that is highly sought after in the current job market. My ideal job upon graduation would be working in a company like Freddie Mac where I can utilize my knowledge and work within a team setting.
I intend to pursue an MBA in Finance. The said concentration will equip me with the relevant skills I require to succeed as a finance director in a reputable organization my long-term career goal. I am certain that with an MBA in finance from a reputable institution like Terry College of Business, I will not encounter any difficulties securing employment in a top firm. This is more so the case given that as the college points out in its website, "our programs not only get you to the table-they keep you there" (Terry College of Business, 2013). For this reason, I am certain that having an MBA in finance from a top business school will jumpstart my career and shepherd it in the right direction.
Before I chose the Healthcare Administration and Planning(HCAP) degree program I had committed myself to a major, at another university, that did not fuel my passion and or encouraged me to continue. I knew I needed to make a change. I decided to stop and refocus and find out what my purpose was. With experience in community and customer service I knew that I wanted to serve people and find a way that I could help others to live their best lives. I began by researching careers in which I could serve others and make a difference. That is how I found healthcare.
As a person goes throughout one's life, he or she faces many challenges. Whether that be deciding what to eat in the morning or deciding what college to attend, all people must make decision. I have come to the point in my life where I must determine the fate of my future; therefore, I have taken four interest inventory test to further help me with this decision. Fortunately, all of my test results were similar; they all stated that I work well with others and fit best in the human services industry. I believe these results are accurate; I have always had the desire to be a psychologist, and this ideally fits in this category. My aptitude tests also showed that I must be orderly in order to reach success. This is also quite evident in my actions,
Completing my Bachelor’s degree will strengthen my skillset and help me become a more valuable employee. I am looking forward to the upcoming business courses so I can continue learning more about different conceptual strategies and theories that I can apply to my workplace. My organization is excited that I have decided to pursue my degree and is completely supportive.
From the first survey, Jung Typology Test, I figured out that my personality type is ENTJ. ENTJ stands for Extravert, iNtuitive, Thinking, and Judging. It means that I am outgoing, rational, and perceptive. Prior to this test, I only have a slight idea that I might be confidence, logical, and have a talent in management. After taking the test, I got confirmed that I am indeed the type of person I think I would be. In addition, the extra links under the result gave me information about what potential occupations I could take in the future by giving me a thorough interpretation of what ENTJ really means. Honestly, I am going through a time of struggling: I am not sure about my major and what I could be at the career fair. Although I vaguely think that I may want to be a manager working in the technology-related areas. The result tells me that I am suitable for managing resources in companies as well as one of
After taking a Myers-Briggs assessment my mind has been changed. The very first time I took any kind of personal assessment was my second year of college. I had taken my general education classes and it was time to pick a major. The thing is, what 19 year old know what they want to do for the rest of their lives? None I tell you! So I went to an advisor and was given the test. Many seemingly random questions the results were in; you can be a doctor or lawyer or astronaut they said! The least helpful 45 minutes of my life I gave to that advisor.
In conclusion, by recognizing my values, principles and goals, I was able to have a picture of how long I can achieve my set objectives and more precisely how I go about in attaining it. With my MBA, I believe not only I can change certain things but also develop it into a higher success for a longer term effects. The shared practices within the forum, helped me to be more analytical and logic. Reading from my peers their diverse experience and goals, not only powered me to achieve more, open other types of companies, listen more, better creative ideas, but most importantly they give me the “determination” in achieving them
While working for The Sacramento Region Community Foundation I was able to be involved in many community initiatives. These experiences have shown me how a group of individuals can come together and make a difference when given a challenge to fix. They have opened my eyes to the impact that can be had for good as we help and serve others. An MBA will assist me in my long-term goals as I continue to make an impact for good in my profession and community. Over the long-term this will allow me new and exciting opportunities to take on further leadership roles and open new doors of
The knowledge gained would allow me the job growth in order to influence change and make a difference in the system in a meaningful and positive way. These changes would benefit all involved, especially the patients that put their faith in the healthcare team in their darkest hour. This change is what, professionally, I want to see in this specific sector of healthcare, and thus is the motivating factor in pursuing my MBA. Personally, this would further fulfill my desire to help those less fortunate than myself. By achieving these lofty aspirations, I would finally find solace and fulfillment in the fact that I have truly impacted the lives of others in such a positive manner. I have held the hands of men and looked upon their eyes as the last light fades, but the times that have struck me deeply are the times when their eyes were filled with regret, and I would regret not being able to achieve my aspirations, one of which is to gain my
I am currently employed at Canadian Tire, but am in the process of finding a job at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in my hometown of Kenora, Ontario. I did a Co-op placement in the local hospital in Grade 11. I did a placement in the Diagnostic Imagery department as well as a nursing post on the Pre/Post Operation floor and the ICU. That semester helped me solidify my interest in pursuing a career in the health field
After making the decision to advance my career with an MBA degree, I researched several programs both traditional and online. I spoke with several friends about their MBA programs. Each program had its pros and cons, whereas, Bethel University did not.
MBA will definitely enhance my credentials when I decide to pursue other opportunities in the management field. I also plan on relocating after I get
My goal is to have a career in health care management. While researching careers, I discovered health care management. I choose health care management as my career option for two reasons. I’m looking for a career where I can do what I passionate about and impact lives. These are important factor in my career choice. Health care management met my two requirements and at that point I knew this was the career for me. I firmly believe that any career I pursue should be one that I’m passionate about. One of my passions is helping others. Health care managers help patients just as much as doctors, nurses and other clinical professionals. For me it’s very imperative that I find a career were I would have impact the lives of others. This would ensure that I’m fulfilling one of my purposes in life. I 'm ready to experience the emotional and intellectual rewards my MBA will
In this essay I will identify the reason I want to continue my education through Spring Arbor University. I am currently a registered nurse in an emergency department and have been for almost 6 years. I have been in charge of the unit many times and have enjoyed teaching others. I would like to advance my degree for multiple reasons. The primary reason is that a Master’s degree is distinguishable and shows commitment to the field of nursing. Furthermore, it shows dedication and motivation of an individual to complete a degree that only about ten percent of nurses are able to accomplish.
