To be indecisive is to abstain from making decisions repeatedly. One of the reasons indecision is so debilitating is due to its habit forming nature, along with its transmission from person to person. Indecision is the fear of choosing wrong, which is taken to the extreme when someone indecisive forms this habit of indecision. This furthermore leads to failure due to procrastination and the cycle of indecision begins over again. Indecision is the procrastination of making decisions; a procrastination that is a habit formed by the self-doubt, fear of choosing wrong, or failure inhibited in an indecisive individual. Indecisions’ has not only a habit-forming nature, it spreads from one person to another. Indecision is transmitted from one
Every action a person takes is the result of having thought about what it is they think they should do and then doing it. Life is riddled with problems that require solving. Decisions are complex matters that require careful judgment and problem analysis especially when one is in a role where others look up to them and are affected by their decisions.
Indecision, by dictionary definition is simply the inability to make decisions quickly. However, indecision itself is not actually such an intelligible term, but rather an overly complex one that dips into the intricate nature of the human mindset. This becomes even more accurate when the act of indecisiveness is paired with compelling circumstances. Oftentimes human beings are required to act irrationally because their circumstances force them to do so. Our opinions and actions seem justifiable, yet they may also come across as deceitful and immoral. The overriding internal conflict of choosing between personal desire and what is morally correct becomes the central aspect of many human trials. William Shakespeare, the writer of many well known
When it comes to facing challenging obstacles in both my professional and personal life I utilize the self-management strategy of “sleeping on it”. By sleeping on a challenging obstacle this creates time, patience, and provides clarity. As many, I can be very indecisive on decisions that have a big effect on my life, but I find that giving myself an extra day, week, or month to digest the situation before making a decision helps me stay in control. Time helps with self-management because it brings clarity and perspective to the thousands of indecisive thoughts swimming through my head when something is important. (Bradberry & Greaves,
Why are decisions difficult to make? Are decisions the two paths that will lead us down to our future? Are they like an answer choice on a test, that we feel the need to stress about whether we choose the right or wrong decision? Perhaps people should realize that making decisions can lead us to embark on new life changing journeys. We need to learn that we should not fear making decisions because whatever one we choose, can lead into something extraordinary.Even though we sometimes cannot better the decisions we made, but we can rather better ourselves. In Maya Angelou’s poem, “Caged Bird”, We see the two different people and learn how they deal with tough decision making.” Langston Hughes gives a perfect example in the poem “Mother to Son.” Robert Frost explains how the decisions we make should come from our minds and not someone elses. To everyone who makes the decisions that comes from their heart, will have a better outcome in the end if only they try harder.
Decision-making has never been my forte, exactly. I once drove around town with a friend for forty minutes as we exchanged variants of, “I don’t know. Where do you want to eat?” My proclivity for avoiding to outright choose one thing over another has been deeply inset since I was very young, and I believe it probably stems from an intense fear of rejection. Needless to say, the choice to commit to something I cannot see was one that was daunting and, for a long time, seemed puerile.
From choosing this Scarlet Letter, how I design the letter, to what pizza toppings I would like, or what movie should I watch, I have trouble deciding what to do. Indecision is a large, and a unfavorable part of my life, that makes it difficult to finalize a decision on a test, or even shower before, or after homework. Deciding is hard for me because it feels irreversible, and I cannot do anything about it after I chose one way or the other. In previous essays, I’ve written about the importance of choice, and how life is made of choices. This idea scares me, even though I see it as true. Since this idea frightens me, I think of the future effects, which creates more pressure on the little decisions I make day to day.
“One of the hardest decisions you'll ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder.” - Ziad K. Abdelnour. In Maya Angelou’s poem, “Caged Bird”, We see the two different people and learn how they deal with tough decision making.” Langston Hughes gives a perfect example in the poem “Mother to Son.” Robert Frost explains how the decisions we make should come from our minds and not someone else.To everyone who makes the decisions that comes from their heart, will have a better outcome in the end if only they try harder.
The study of decision fatigue actually began with a study of Sigmund Freud who believed that the self, or ego, depended upon mental activities involving the transfer of energy. As a result, Freud’s energy model of the self was basically ignored until the 1990’s when Social psychologist Roy F. Baumeister began studying mental discipline. He came up with the term “decision fatigue” to describe the mental attitude that makes decision making a
Throughout history, many individuals have proclaimed whether humans are capable of determining their own destiny. Many people have their own arguments about the situation between determined and undetermined, though these claims are not valid they have commenced many thoughts in life. Even though several unknown scenarios have determined a leading destination, we don't know the cause of it. A research called “The Immature Brain Circuitry”was established for a particular reason to see if the brain's structure had a specific function on making decisions.
Nevertheless, just because someone stays in their same situation and allows themselves to fall prey to circumstance, does not mean that determinism is readily inescapable since the choice to make a change in one’s life is still there even if the choice is to not act (McLeod, 2013).
As previously mentioned, indecisiveness or failure to make a decision can create a host of negative effects.
Sometimes, thinking before making a decision is dangerous and bad. There are many examples from the Greek myths, “Prometheus”, and, “Orpheus and Eurydice”. Also, there can be examples from experience.
It is often assumed that most of human’s behaviour is done due to conscious decisions.
Decision making sometimes can be very complicated for me. I have been told that I think too much when it comes to making a simple decision. For me I need to analyze what can and will happen about many choices I make in life. Sometimes it takes me a long time to come up with a solution and it drives some people crazy. I can’t help it I need to really think about what may happen if I choose wrongly. How will my decision affect me and others? I work with impressionable students and they look up to me for advice and assistance. I have to constantly listen intently to other people with my job to make sure I understand the problem or issue. With my position I must use ethical perspectives to solve every day problems with my students / clients. Before I can suggest anything I must thoroughly understand what is at risk. Then I must choose my words accordingly so that they can maximize the best results from our conversations.
My problem with decision-making has always affected me in school I wasn’t a straight-A student I was never the one to hand in an assignment early. One time in English class we had to pick a book to do seven-page report on and I picked a book I thought would be good. So I started writing the paper when I realized there's no way I could write seven pages. I had the
