My husband and I have done well enough financially that I now devoting my attention on ways we can improve the world by educating, inspiring, and bringing people together.
As a student in middle and high school, I was fortunate to have a father who enjoyed pondering interesting math problems at least as much as I did. When I got stuck, he sometimes asked me a question or offered me a hint that helped me to figure out how to solve a problem.
I didn't enjoy the competitive atmosphere and time constraints of most math contests, but was intrigued and inspired by the qualifying problems of the yearly math contest sponsored by Saint Mary's College in Moraga, CA. About 10 years ago, I searched for the Contest and found that it no longer existed,

By doing physical therapy with me every night (except on my birthday) for 12 years to strengthen my right leg and right arm (affected by cerebral palsy), Nelson made me realize the benefits of hard work and perseverance. There was no need for him to say the words “I love you.” He showed me how much he cared for me in much more endearing ways.
Donald Knuth
Donald Knuth's Concrete Mathematics was my favorite course ever because, unlike most other my classes in which I just applied what I was taught, in that class I learned through trial, effort, errors, and eventually discovery.
I continue to see Donald Knuth several times a year and he is always friendly to me.
Herb Wilf
I enjoyed the problems in Concrete Mathematics so much, that I requested to be the teaching assistant for the class the following year. Though Donald Knuth had taught the class for years, the following year it was taught by Herb Wilf, who was on sabbatical at Stanford from the University of
I came to know Gary Haw nearly forty years ago when I met him and his family at Church in Culver City. Gary and I quickly became close friends and whom I consider one of my best friends. Gary and I and attended many church social's and outings together at that time. My parents quickly grew fond of Gary on the occasions he picked me up for outings and social events and described him as 'Always treats you nicely'.

And Ben's continual drive to work hard everyday is what makes him a great person.
I believe that no one will perceive a greater sense of prosperity from anything other than giving back to the community. I am an avid horseback rider and have been volunteering at a therapeutic riding center for children with disabilities
The primary goal of this project was to examine the math bowl and try to improve upon it. After three years of being a member of the Montana tech math club I was given the opportunity to run it. So, with the resources available to the math club, I attempted to organize and promote another math bowl completions. Through running this event I hoped to gain insight on short coming that the math club faced. One of these was the lack of participation from the math club members.
My grandfather in law, Ray Schmitt, had a true connection with me and my family. Even though he was not directly related, he always treated me and my family like his sons and daughters. He would always welcome us with smiles and even though he fought through hard times, like occasion strokes, he never forgot to put a big smile on his face. My mom said, “ He was a devoted family man to everyone, and he was devoted to the faith, and that showed in his actions.”
The concept I believe I mastered well was derivatives. I enjoyed derivatives a lot. Even though it was challenging and it had many equations to remember, I managed to do good. For some reason, even though
Hungry for knowledge and new formulas, I desire to become a renowned mathematician. When I get home from school, bored and deprived of mathematical challenges, I explore the vast secrets of the internet. Likewise, I watch videos on cool shapes and patterns constantly affecting our everyday lives. Despite this, my uninteresting life brings me back to school where I sit still in desks for hours learning about super PAC’s and oxidation reduction reactions. As most high school attendees would say, almost every single class they take is useless for what they want to chase after in college and the business world. For over seventeen years, spread abroad, seven mathematical problems shake and stymie even the best of minds. Clay Mathematics called these
Foggy Nelson is a New York City lawyer who, along with his best friend Matt Murdock, founded the law firm of Nelson & Murdock. Their goal was to protect the innocent and “the little guys.” Foggy’s friendship with Matt was put to the ultimate test when Matt’s nighttime actives as Daredevil affected their weekly cases. Once Foggy discovered Matt’s alter ego, their relationship was forever altered.
Students today are conditioned to believe that the best colleges lead to the best education, which leads to the best opportunities and the best jobs, and ultimately, the best life. This ‘universal truth’ is engrained in the head of every student across the nation, and enforced by teachers, parents, and adults as a whole. Students who go the top colleges are expected to be the top performers in their respected fields. Moreover, this idea goes beyond college to high school, middle school, and even elementary and preschool. Private preschools boast advertisements of esteemed professors who can give your child the best foundation. This widely accepted fact is what leads students to dream of an acceptance letter from one of just eight Ivy League schools in the country, which is why it made national news when a student by the name of Ronald Nelson rejected offers from all of
"As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison." This was stated by former president of Africa, Nelson Mandela, who was sentenced to a 27-year sentence of imprisonment for standing up against a government that was committing egregious human rights abuses against black Southern Africans. Once Mandela was released in 1990, he went on to lead the way for the abolition of segregation four years later.
Mandela has been influenced by Gandhi all along his life. Gandhi, who was peaceful protestor against oppression led the Indian campaign in 1913. By this campaign, Mandela understood that to be successful in the freedom struggle, it was necessary to make sacrifices, and to suffer for the cause. Gandhi’s passive resistance inspired Mandela a lot and for the first years of his political career, he promoted non violent actions. These actions were therefore illegals, and like Gandhi, he was courageous and accepted the fact that those actions may led him to prison, like in Gandhi's case. However, when Mandela noticed that the passive resistance wasn’t effective, he decided to act in consequence, and to play by the government rules (use violence).
Winters struggle to survive tends to drive the character's motivation throughout the entire movie. Although, that is not the only form of motivation the characters have during this film. Sawyer Nelson was motivated to see Winter everyday, Kyle Connellan became motivated to get better, Dr. McCarthy was motivated to help Winter, Dr. Clay was motivated to save the hospital, Liila Harris and her mom were motivated to see Winter, and Hazel Haskett and Sawyer were motivated to raise money for the hospital.
However, what sticks out in my mind, as an important event in my life which triggered my mission to eradicate poverty, was when Melinda and me went to Africa in 1993 on a Safari actually, but rather than watching the animals, our eyes caught hold of people over there, living in poverty well beyond our imagination! Just looking at their struggles made us want to understand more about the problems of the people living in poor countries. I changed my mind about developing an institute for basic research and instead established the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation (Wired
