Around 90 percent of people on school grounds have a phone. That’s one of the biggest distractions in school today. Kids have been on phones so much they get them taken away during school. They have been on phones so long kids can not have a normal conversation. Also kids have been distracted by all these notifications and text messages they receive. Kids need to shut them off during school but they don't. Kids do not need cellphones in school because kids get distracted easily, school is a learning zone not a cellphone zone, and kids need to socialize in school not be on phones.
To begin with, kids do not need phones in school because they are easily distracted by their cell phones. Kids get in trouble for checking phones in class when they get a single notification. Most schools do not allow the use of cell phones in school or in class, so the school feels like changing their policy of cell phone use might be a bad idea. Students could take advantage or miss use the privilege of phones in class. There will always be students who act out in class, but the school must discipline those who do and reward those who do not.
Cell phones should be allowed in school because they can further students ability to learn and/or stay focused. Audrey Watters wrote, “And that’s probably one of the most important observations: Many students already carry a powerful computing device in their pockets, while oftentimes much of the technology hardware at schools is woefully out-of-date.” This is a major reason why cell phones should be allowed in school because in some schools that do not have the most updated technology there students do on their phones. By allowing cell phones in school, students have access to these powerful devices that can be utilized for free while increasing classroom resources. First, I believe this because students can get easily distracted by phones. Students don’t pay much attention to the teacher’s lesson and are disturbed by all the notifications they receive. Some examples of how they can get distracted are social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc. Texting in class can also get students easily distracted from school work. Students tend to lack amount of sleep since they stay on their phone for most of the night.
Our teachers are supposed to be our role models, shouldn't they know more? To make it easier in life we all should be able to use cell phones in class. Some people ask themselves, "If cell phones are to keep in touch with your buddies, then what is recess for?” Yes, recess is a chance where you and your peers socialize, but in class don't you need to ask your buddy questions that you don’t understand?- (ie. math problems, homework and etc… ), but at the same time you don't want to be rude and yell their name out loud and disturb other students from working. So, using a cell phone to text message is a great idea to keep in contact with your friends.
Kids shoud have phones at school for several reasons. They can help kids at school with several things too
The first reason we should not have phones in school is that it is dangerous. Some evidence to this is that if there is an emergency the kids would call the parents and the parents would rush to school clogging up traffic. I don’t know about you but I don’t want emergency workers late to save us.
One reason why cell phones should not be in allowed in school is because kids cheat with their cell phones. 35% of teens admit to using cell phones to cheat while in school. Did you know that a large percent of kids have their first smartphone in elementary school? Many underage elementary schoolers are owning smartphones. The number of elementary school students owning a smartphone has increased a lot since 2012. When kids don’t have phones they can do much more than sitting, playing games, and searching the internet. Instead, they can play outside with their friends like normal elementary students. Overall, elementary schoolers shouldn’t have smartphones.
Schools might be able to lessen these battles be rethinking the place cell phones might have. Even with school policies in place against students having cell phones with them during the school day, schools continue to discipline students for infractions of the rules and defend the policy with parents. Students are sent to school to learn and by playing with cell phones during classes students are not learning anything that will help them with a career or their futures. Students can also text friends in other classrooms and not have their minds in the classroom that they are in. Students may eventually stop coming to school because they can just stay home and use their cell phones and do other things.
When students get bored or don’t feel like doing the assignment they turn to their phones to help them escape from boredom. Then later the homework comes or tests that they don’t understand and fail because one was not paying attention when it was being explained. A student with a phone during class becomes distracted and would rather worry about who said what on Twitter then one’s own education. Some students wonder why they struggle.
