Why People Attend College

My purpose for attending college again is to enhance my opportunities within the field of education. I have been teaching high school level social science courses for over a decade, and I am ready to advance into administration. Having already attained the administrator endorsement on my teaching license, I believe it would be beneficial to have a degree in Business Administration to stand out in a pool of candidates. Running a school is not greatly dissimilar from running a business. If this helps me with my career goals, I will consider it to have been time well

In the following two articles, “7 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Go To College and 4 Things To Do Instead” from the Huffpost Business by Michael Price and “The Rising Cost of Not Going to College” by the Pew Research Center, have varied relations and differences stated within each of them. There are important points to consider about making the choice if college is necessary for one’s future or not. They also talk about what positions people are put in if they choose to have a college experience and education under their belt or not. It’s all about the cost, time, and value that comes with it.

There are several reasons why individuals go to college. Some reasons are worthwhile while some are not. Personally, I strongly believe that going to the college does not, in itself, guarantee success but it does in one way or the way help in achieving success. Many people choose not to attend college. I believe that not attending college is probably one of the most irresponsible decisions a person can make. When graduated making the decision to work at a dead end job forever or attend college, college is a pretty obvious choice. The reason I want to go to college is so I can have my dream job instead of a job I do not like, so I will never have to struggle as a result of skipping college and because I believe my college experience will have a tremendous impact on my life.

Summer is supposed to be a time of adventure and excitement, however, in the long run, it should be productive. Productive, in the sense that because this is our junior summer, as students we need to be more aware of what lays ahead of us. There are many reasons people attend college. Some people attend because they are expected to, either by their culture, their family or peer pressure. Other people have a desire to continue learning and want to go to college and still others do not know what they want to do with their life so they decide to attend college to explore their options. I choose to attend college right out of high school, but now 30 years later I am back. This time I am back in college because I work in an environment where I have been bullied to the point that I have no confidence in myself. I am back to prove something to myself.

I come from a family where most members did not attended college. Over the years I’ve seen how they’ve struggled to live comfortably and have a high paying job or at least an “average” paying job. I want to accomplish more for myself and prove to my family I can do it. I want my family to be proud of me and my future.
