An important question regarding people today, from the ages of 9 to 90 is why is physical education important? Physical education is important for a number of reasons, one of the biggest reasons being that if someone is physical fit and participates in physical activity daily, the chances are, their going to live a longer, healthier life than one who is not physical fit and does not participate in physical activity on a daily basis. Another big reason is physical education and athletics help define a person and shape them and people can learn a lot about themselves by participating in activities, such as how well they handle situations, anger problems, and maturity. These reasons, among several other reasons which will be covered is why …show more content…
Another way this happens is by failure, such as if a student gets beat once, that student will figure out a way to stop the action and they will not get beat that way again. In a team sport, one works with others, mastering their communication skills and how other people react to different situations, including themselves. Through successes and failures, they define who they are. In an individual sport, students are dependant upon themselves. If they push themselves then they will have a better opportunity to win. The amount of effort a student is capable of putting forth to win is also a defining characteristic. Another big reason why physical education is important in today's society is because it helps a lot of young teens and adolescents' self esteem and confidence. So many kids are out there thinking they don't have a purpose in life, until they pick up a basketball or start throwing a baseball, and realizing that they actually do have potential in something, and can work to be a great player in a certain sport. Self confidence can not only be how you feel, but how you carry yourself and giving someone confidence that didn't have it before is very important because now the person can start believing in themselves and start setting examples for other young people. Another thing that being physical active does is that it motivates kids and gives them determination. Seeing
The Margaret Eaton School (MES) played an important role in Canadian physical education during a period of time known as the “golden age” for women’s sport in Canada. This essay will discuss how Margaret Eaton School came to be and why it is considered one of the leading schools in the development of women’s physical education in Canada in 1901, with the help of Emma Scott Raff and Margaret Eaton. The school started out as “The School of Expression” focusing on theatre and physical culture, and later (1925) shifted its views to focus solely on physical education. I plan to argue that from 1901 to 1942, the Margaret Eaton School played an innovative role in Canada in the development of physical education by offering women a comprehensive
Physical activity has not only physical benefits. It also has a very big impact on social-emotional and cognitive aspects of child’s live. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “The development of a physically active lifestyle is a goal for all children. Traditional team and competitive sports may promote healthy activity for selected youth. Individual sports, noncompetitive sports, lifetime sports, and recreational activities expand the opportunity for activity to everyone. The opportunity to be active on a regular basis, as well as the enjoyment and competence gained from activity, may increase the chances that a physically active lifestyle will be adopted.”
This will impact on a child or young person’s intellectual development as they will be more alert and ready to learn, physical activity is also likely to encourage social and emotional development as schools will provide sports clubs and after school activities, giving children and young people the opportunity to socialise and progress in self-esteem.
Physical education classes are not enjoyed by all, in fact, some students do their best to get out of the class each day, but without this class, students would sit in school for seven hours a day with the only exercise being walking from class to class. While changing clothes and possibly getting sweaty may not seem productive for students who have spent an hour doing their hair, or feel awkward changing in front of others, this class provides positive ways of fighting obesity, releasing energy, retaining more academically, and learning discipline. Thus, students should be required to take physical education courses in high school.
Not only that, but Physical Education also provides hobbies for participants to follow on later in life for recreational purposes, as professionals or amateurs. After school activities are on offer in many schools as extra-curricular activities, providing something for pupils to take part in. Subsequently this can reduce levels of crime in communities. Sports and Physical Education helps draws away negative energy, redirecting it into sport, reducing crime, improving community safety and increasing participation in sports with schemes to prevent children turning to crime.
It is very important to develop the younger population, such as elementary kids, physically and mentally. Studies have shown students who were more in shape tended to perform better on math and reading tests than the less active students (Pfaff, 2015). Studies also suggest that kids having recess or a physical education class during school hours is very powerful for
Physical education should be a fun class, but fun does not have to mean chaos. I believe in a structure that will allow the students to have fun in a safe way. My lesson plans will be structured so that students are constantly engaged in physical activity. I feel that if I can keep students moving and learning, then the chances of misbehavior will decrease. In elementary school I feel that Instant Activities should be used to get students moving when they get into my class. High school is a little different. I feel that students at the secondary school level should be introduced physical fitness activities that will help keep them in shape later on in life.

I believe that physical education and health give a unique opportunity to the students to contribute to the overall well-being and student’s development. As a teacher I believe that the most important things that I can teach my students is a love to be physically active because i believe that physical ability will affect every aspect of student’s life including their mental health, academic achievement, self-esteem, social competency and ability to function well in any environment. The purpose of physical education and health class is to provide the concepts of health and skill related fitness in order to create the student with continuous physically active that can promote the development of life long movers. Teaching is one of the most important careers that help advance a society. Teachers are important because they are responsible for passing along knowledge from generation to generation. The perspective of this paper is to develop a philosophy on physical education and then explain what kind of job we plan on having later on in life and relate physical education to that. The purpose for developing this philosophy is to try and get the most out of the people I’m working with on physical education, whether it is an adult or adolescent.
