It is safe to say that the Earth is in trouble. We are polluting now more than ever, and we are using up vital land for one purpose, to pile our trash. This land that is being piled with trash day after day could have been kept in its natural raw state or rather used for a productive purpose rather than a final resting place for the large quantity of garbage that we produce. One simple task that we all can do each and every day to help the Earth is to simply recycle. The phrase Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle is one that is prominent in the world today; However, it is a phrase that holds little to no meaning or action behind it. Recycling was also a major war effort during the times of World War One and World War Two.” (The History of Recycling) The main item during these collection drives were items that were made of metal: however, other goods such as rubber and nylon were recycled, as well as rationed to help with the war efforts. It was also during this time people fully understood the importance of recycling. The importance lied in not only the war efforts but also from a finance standpoint. During these times it money was tight. It was fiscally irresponsible and practically not an option for a family to buy new when they could reuse the old. A major example would be the packaging of milk. During these times there was a milk man who cam and tool glass bottles from your front porch and replaced them with fill bottles. These bottles were reused time and time again. The recycling drives that were held during these war times are responsible for the organized programs that began to appear across the world for your everyday recycling needs. The programs that are in full use today can be created back to these drives; there success is the true power into tomorrow.
