One in four car crashes had the probability to involve a cell phone. Cell phones are so dangerous while driving, that texting while driving increases your chances of getting into a crash by 20 times. Using anything can pull the drivers attention away from the road, making the driver unable to respond to any immediate occurrences. Cell phone use is a big factor in distracted driving, but there any easy ways to lower chances of being in a crash. Many places have set up laws and education for distracted driving.

First of all, I believe that driving while holding a handheld cell phone should be illegal. One of the reasons is you can very easily get distracted while driving. The death roles around the world are unbelievable, because of the amount of deaths we have came across. I definitely think phones should be banned from use while driving because of multiple reasons. One being focus is taken off of the road and is on a small handheld device. Many people get into car accidents when driving, but now with the new technology the death rate in motor vehicle accidents has increased. I feel the need for a ban because I have experienced the effects first hand when We got into a car accident while my family member was on their phone.

Since cell phones became popular, there have been significantly more distractive driving accidents on record. A tiny little phone, small enough to fit in your pocket, can cause major accidents on the road. Mobile phones have had many negative effects while driving. Driving is a method of transportation most people use every day that involves heavy concentration. Whether it is from you behind the wheel, riding with a friend, or on a bus/taxi cab, we all have experienced this in our lifetime. Many people who drive or ride tend to be very focused on the task at hand, tune out buildings or other things that they pass by, or they multitask by listening to music, talking with passengers, or are on their phone. These distractions have caused many problems on the road. With technology growing faster every day and new developments created, people have become more and more distracted and are dying. Distracting driving is a common occurrence with modern day drivers. Due to technological advances making electronics so easy to use on the go, many find themselves spending more time looking at their cell phone or navigation system than they do looking at the road. According to the NHTSA, distracted driving claimed the lives of 3,477 people in 2015 alone. Texting and driving is a common distraction, especially when it comes to the younger generation of drivers. Young drivers are oblivious to the dangers of what seems like such a harmless act. Studies have shown that one 1 in 4 accidents are caused by texting and driving. The number of people injured from distracted drivers in 2015 was 391,000. Over half of the nation’s car accidents are a result of texting and driving. Whereas drinking and driving may kill more people, the leading cause of car accidents is in fact texting and driving.

In my honest opinion, people still use their phones now a days while driving because; some people say driving is boring, don't have music to listen to or they text instead. Many people don't know the risks because; driving and texting is the leading cause of death. Many teenagers cause wrecks because they use their phones and don't focus on the rode. I think electronics should be banned while driving. There is too many distractions while driving.

I am in firm belief that prohibiting the use of cell phone (or any texting devices) while driving would be make the drivers and streets safer and or more aware. There are numerous reasons why texting and driving should be prohibited. For starters, human beings have a limited processing capacity. Processing capacity could be seen as a tank, while the water that fills the tank can be seen as tasks. Now how much water that is poured into this processing capacity tank are determined by whether they are high or low loaded tasks. A low loaded task would leave the tank with plenty of available room for other tasks while high loaded task would fill the majority of the tank up. Driving a car would be defined as a high loaded task, due to that driving a car takes a lot of cognitive processing. Including, at minimal both covert and overt attention combined with feature searching, visual searching, visual scanning is involved in the basic task load of driving a car. Figure in the low load task of texting into the filling of the processing capacity tank, the tank begins to overflow. Lastly, cell phone use while driving should be banned because it can become dangerous for oneself as well as others on the road. Not only does cell phone use for drivers endanger other people, it endangers the life of the operator itself. Drivers can run off the road into trees, ditches, or poles; they may also run into other cars or drift into oncoming traffic. Using a cell phone while driving also puts other drivers on the road in danger; if a driver is texting, their eyes are on their phone and they may not see the car in front of them stopping, which will lead into a wreck that could injury someone.
