Reflecting back on my experiences I feel that I finally have an answer to my original question of what is service. Service is a selfless act, but in a greater sense it is self fulfilling. The title alone provides such an idea of what Timothy Keller wants to have come across in these opening chapters. It is that for a Christian every endeavor is a good one because of what it means and does for us as a human being.

I chose to do a research paper over a social and human service assistant because it matched my ASVAB code perfectly. My ASVAB code was SCE which stands for social, conventional, and enterprising. Being a social and human service assistant has so many requirements in not only educational preparation and personal qualities but also in the daily expectations for this career. Before the United States became a country, unemployment and poverty was a huge problem with society's problem.

This section of the paper will discuss the definition of social work, values associated with social work and arguments for and against the use of systems theory in social work practice. Social work can be described as a field of study that encompasses individuals and their environment. Social work can be defined as work trained professionals do to elevate stressors of individuals so they may become more self-sufficient and empowered to live to their fullest potential.

The Good Worker: Race and Gender in a 1970s Southern City is an article written by Shirley Harkess and Carol Warren that talks about how employers base their requirements on hiring an employee, mainly based on race and gender. Most of the employers hired white males because back then they were the ideal workers for the hard jobs. Although, some did hire black males because for some, they were considered stronger and better for the though jobs. It all depended on the employer's way of thinking who should be put into what specific job.

Of all of the tasks one can do, by far the noblest act is sharing one’s self to others and living in service. Though it is daunting at times, ultimately, serving others, whether through simple acts of kindness, participating in charities, or actively assisting to create a better future, is something I am willing and currently doing. In addition, both my current actions and the mindset I have behind my actions (both religious and secular) lay the foundation of a lifetime of service.

First, thing is that he says “God’s work must truly be our own”. I think this is meaningful because he’s trying to say that we should be working on our own things to learn how others back in the day learned. For instantes, this year i’m in PEAK academy in this academy we work individually, so we don’t depend on the teachers to help us with every work. The purpose of this academy is that teachers want the students to be indivisional. Like this year I feel really powerful of my own work, my own grades.

I decided to start volunteering at the local humane society because I’ve always been really passionate about animals and wanted to start benefiting them in the community. Prior to my service I was delighted because I’ve wanted to start volunteering for years and was glad the opportunity had presented itself. Throughout my experience I learned a great deal and met a lot of new people. Even though I’ve only just started serving my time at the Fox Valley Humane Association I can truly see the difference it has made in the community.

Three of the eight objectives that I have utilized the most during my practicum for Human Service 250 is, how to demonstrate a helping relationship with a client, how to demonstrate time management techniques, and how to demonstrate professional attitudes with clients and agency personnel. During my practicum I have utilized the rest of the objectives for this class, which are, how to demonstrate interviewing skills, to describe agency policies and functions, to demonstrate knowledge of confidentiality and ethical issues, how to measure, collect and interpret information needed for service delivery, and how to identify personal strengths and weaknesses in the practicum experience.
