Introduction
The role of human resource department is vital to the success of the organization and its employees. Back in the day, they called it the "personnel department" because of its systems in place for the people of the organization. During this assignment, I will be discussing the human resource systems and how they handle issues in the organization. More specifically, I'll be discussing how my last facility addressed workplace safety issues related to staffing the labor & delivery unit. Staffing Nursing Units
Workplace safety in hospitals is crucial for both the employee and patients. Staffing the nursing unit adequately and proper scheduling is critical in ensuring patient safety (Alenius et al., 2014). This is only one workplace safety issue that the human resource systems face. Security at workplace can also be achieved by training on safety and health and having strict policies against practices such as violence and bullying at the workplace (Alenius et al., 2014). The security at the work facility can influence the staffing because if that's an issue human resource department will have a challenge filling the positions.

Workplace safety is a major issue faced by nurses in healthcare settings. It is said that, hospitals are hazardous workplaces; unsafe workplaces are dangerous for the patients too. Today, many nurses are suffering hospital violence, heavy workloads causing serious injuries, contracting diseases caused by exposures to certain diseases, antineoplastics, and certain health care toxins, that workers bring home to their families. This in turn leads to acute staff shortages. Ample supply of nurses is very important in providing safe and timely care to the patient population. One particular is safety, which I believe to be one of the most important of the competencies. Safety is minimizing the risk of harm to patients and healthcare providers. According to the Online Journal of Issues in Nursing, safety is defined as a tool to minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance (Barnsteiner, 2011). Safety problems can range from the nurse not knowing how to work certain equipment, or the nurse recording values wrong because he or she is distracted.
