During the 1st month of life, the child should be able to have a strong grasp reflex as a fine motor skill, and demonstrate head leg as a gross motor skill. Furthermore, by the 2nd month of life, the child should be able to not only hold their hands in an open position, as well as show signs of their grasp reflex fading as a fine motor skill, but also be able to lift their head off the mattress when in a prone positon as a gross motor skill (Hockenberry, Wilson, & Rodgers, 2017).
The expected pattern starts at 0-3 years where a child is expected to develop the most. They have little control over their bodies at 0-1 years and are dependent on their natural instincts eg: sucking, grasping.
The infants physical development starts with the head and then moves to other parts of the body. From the very beginning babies are very curious and are ready to start exploring. Infants necks are unable to support the weight of the head when the baby is sat up straight. They are able to turn their heads left to right when laying down. Infants are able to close their fist.
| There are many physical developments that a child starts to develop by 6months. Some of these include; being able to turn their heads when they hear sounds or see movements, when they are being fed they can stare at the adult’s face, when they hear a familiar voice they will smile, put whatever they have into their mouth and be able to hold and shake a rattle.
Babies at birth – most are born at 40 week and premature babies more often need a little more time to reach the same level of development as babies born in and after the 40th week. Most are born with just reflexes for survival at first. These would be swallowing, sucking reflexes to help feed. Rooting reflex baby will move its head if the cheek is touched to find a nipple or teat. Grasp reflex babies will grip objects touching their palm. Startle reflex they will often move arms outwards and clench fists is a sound movement or light suddenly startles them. Walking reflex when babies are held upright with their feet on a
At birth surprisingly a child has intellectually learned to do things already such as smell their mother and recognise her voice. They have also learnt that when they cry it lets people know that they need help and within the first few days of life they learn to use their senses particularly touch, taste and sound. At infancy a child is expected to weigh around 3.5kg or 7 1/2lbs and 50cm long. Bonding is very important socially and emotionally for both mother and baby, helps relationship in later life because they become closer. The babies reflexes are now improving, some of them are automatic responses. E.g. sucking a nipple or a bottle. Grasp reflex is when a

Within the authors current practice setting, patients are mobile and walk into the clinic for a quick wound assessment. On occasion, patients are wheelchair bound due to various health reasons and need to be assessed for sacral pressure injuries. Other common pressure injuries include heel ulcers from nursing home bed ridden patients, and diabetic foot ulcers related to pressure injuries from improper footwear. At the initial visit, the patients health history, current medical status, mobility, and ulcer condition are assessed to establish baseline information. From this data, the doctor, patient, and family can create a care plan with focus on areas in need of improvement.
The practical nature of Wound Capture provides interesting opportunities for using and commercializing the application. To move forward with the application further development would be necessary. Partnering with a healthcare organization could provide the opportunity to secure funding to customize the documentation and system integration to a specific organization’s electronic records and documentation standards. Another opportunity might be grant funding to partner with a group of wound care specialists to further develop the application. Alternatively, working with a company that employees developers and provides mobile based systems to health care organization could provide necessary labor for the project and provide a potential
Delayed and the dehiscing of wound can be a result of issues in the suturing of a wound. Sometimes, forces that are applied to the wound area can also cause the wound to open up and get infection. As a result of abdominoperineal resection, slowed wound healing started to advance due to certain risk factors. Infection was one of the causative factors that prevent the wound to heal slowly. Through the bacterial contamination and possibly the influence of staples into a wound that has potentiate an infection. Furthermore, due to inadequate tissue oxygenation that can be resulted from vasoconstriction could have occurred as there could have been blood volume deficit and as the patient has an ongoing unrelieved pain in

The first article is about how critical it is to have proper and concise wound care documentation. It talks about this importance from the stand point of a lawyer who deals with a lot of wound care negligent cases. His key points include proper measurements, weekly documentations, pictures and correct diagnosis of the type of wound to have accurate information. He also talks about the importance of having the right employees completing the information or the systems don’t work. Whether it’s an electronic or paper-based system, or photos of the wound, employees must be trained to provide accurate documentation, he said. “Just putting [a system] into place doesn’t make it work” (O’Connor 2012).
The wound was initially cleansed with water or normal saline. The principle of aseptic technique was applied. The soaked gauges was used to clean the surrounding skin. Moreover, when cleaning the depth of the wound, a circular motion was observed, to allow the removal of suspected biofilms. According to Carville (2012, p 78), ‘a gentle cleansing technique is used to remove excessive exudates, whilst a more vigorous approach may be required to remove foreign bodies or suspected biofilms which retard healing’. The wound was lightly dressed with large combines and secure with Transpore. Due to an identified Staphylococcus infection, intravenous antibiotics were commenced; and at times, the dressing was changed to mesorb, a super absorbent non-adherent dry dressing used to allow absorption and to contain large amount of
According to my mother, I did some of these things earlier than most babies. I learned how to hold my head up at about a month old. At six months old, I began to crawl; shortly after, at eight months old, I began to walk. My fine motor skills developed at a normal pace. As an infant, I constantly wanted to pick things up to see how they felt and put things in my mouth; and of course, thought it was hilarious to drop things to see what would happen. I was always very curious about everything and I never wanted to sit still for very long. When I picked things up, I was very careful with them at first, but would sometimes grasp them really roughly without meaning to.
At this stage of development, infants between the ages of 0 and 2 months develop the ability to grasp with their hands (Piaget & Inhelder, 1969).
