However, while most young girls were busy designing Barbie’s next outfit, I was enthusiastically trying to figure out the best way to market and sell Barbie to my friends. As a child, I have always been a visually observatory person. Patterns, textiles, and fashion have always been high interests of mine. My childhood consisted of many Barbie dolls as toys, and it wasn't the Barbie dolls that I wanted to play with, but the clothes that I loved to collect and interchange between the dolls. Creating different outfits for the dolls made me feel as if I was making my own mark in fashion. As I grew older, begging my mother to purchase fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar were typical and became expected. While flipping through the pages of fashion magazines, I was enthralled while examining the latest trends from celebrities and models. This is what influenced me to want to work in the fashion industry.

My love affair with fashion started years ago, but over these past 2 years it has grown into something so beautiful. Fashion made it’s grand entrance in my life when I was looking over a Chanel catalog along with a few other designers. For example; Vera Wang, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, and many more. The designs caught my eye and I was just mesmerized by it all. It literally took my breath away! I always told myself and my family that I will grow to be an amazing fashion designer and sell beautiful, elegant clothing known to man. A worldwide known designer.

I graduated high school back in 1994. I was engaged to be married in just two years, and even though I joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard right after graduation it was only one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year. So I needed a full-time job. A friend of the family knew a guy who was opening a second store, and was going to need a store manager. I took the job and got started. What I didn’t know was the guy I was just hired to work for was a little confused as to what he wanted. I hung onto the job for a little over a year hoping it would turn around but, no dice.

After December 2014, when I left Santa Fe University of Art and Design, I was hoping to change majors from graphic design to fashion design. I did work both at a local McDonald’s and eventually at the Kickapoo Casino as a dishwasher. In belief that I would somehow turn to my artistic endeavors again, a year became a year and seven months. I kept making irresponsible choices with my finances, where I usually had found an uplifting sensation, and I found myself in an more impossible situation to return to my road of college. My brother and I bought a car, rented an apartment, and started living as if we were able to do it all on our own. This summer, I moved to my current place of residency, Quincy. I traveled across the ocean from Tirana, Albania, to explore and experience new opportunities such as soccer, with a new team, but also begin a new type of education in an American high school. While living in Albania, I never had to help pay the bills, and life was easy because the cost of living was so low.
