YWCA Toronto Danforth that works with women in poverty is very dedicated to supporting single mothers towards self-determination and financial independence so that the mothers can be free from violence, gendered oppression, and poverty. The agency attends to these needs by providing a variety of programs and services and partnering with other community agencies, non-profit organizations, social services including Ontario Works and Toronto Housing. In the process of honouring that which is in the organization’s mission statement, I believe the YWCA Toronto Danforth serves women and their children by using ‘transformative services’ that allows women to be the voice when they have to and support them through their journey of self- empowerment,
“Today … there is a growing crisis of women’s homelessness across Canada. The Canadian government has failed to explore the causes of women’s homelessness” (Rahder, 2006, p.38). This growing issue is caused by societies carelessness on the homelessness issue, and the lack of support to change it. Even the Canadian government does not see it as an urgent issue to address because, as stated above, they have even failed to
Housing in Toronto is at an all time high, through research found it has become apparent that there is a significant problem with affordable housing. Although finding affordable housing is not necessarily impossible, those who are lucky enough to find affordable accommodations end up with other issues that are beyond their control such as pests and property maintenance issues. Many families living in Toronto are considered middle class and could easily afford to live anywhere else, the rent prices are too steep in the city for them to afford. The city is growing at a healthy rate and there is already a significantly high homeless rate in the city. The purpose of this proposal is to introduce a few organizations that have plans to help this
Women have been a vital key to the shaping and progression of our society. Throughout time, women’s roles and opportunities in the family, workplace, and society have greatly evolved. They started from being housewives that don’t have many rights, even in the household, to being valued citizens in our
THE Y’S mission statement is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. We believe that positive, lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors. (Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, 2013)
2007).People, who live in poverty in Toronto, are having a hard time, because they can not get enough of life necessities such as clothes and food, and they can not care about their health.
The mission of WVI is to dedicate themselves to work with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice
The creation of this agency is centered on one goal, to promote gender equality around the world. The key in the mission is the promotion of gender equality, this is not only in the U.S., but all over the world; this can best explain why so many may be confused.
Incorporated within the Elizabeth Fry Society are various goals the organization strives to achieve. The organization strives to increase public awareness, of not only the issues affecting women in society, but to promote that the organization exists, and is available to assist women, children, and families who are in need (Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Society, 2013). In addition, the
Native people and aboriginals are not treated fairly it's 2017 and we have more homeless in Winnipeg than they were a decade ago. Ottawa has spent nearly 1 billion investing in a program that built low-income rental homes for the aboriginals despite that over 75% of people in shelters are actually aboriginal peoples. On the reserves the housing isn't the best either most houses on the reserves aren't in living conditions some still end up staying on the reserve.
In many ways, feminists feel that traditional ethics have failed in the world of women’s equality; however, feminist ethicists as a whole share the same target, as cited by Tong, R. & Williams, N. (2009), “the creation of a gendered ethics that aims to eliminate or at least ameliorate the oppression of any group of people, but most particularly women.” Many organizations have been created whose mission is to protect the rights of women such as women’s coalition in various states, Equality4Women, National Organization for Women (N.O.W.), and the Ford Foundation to name a few. These organizations collaborate to restructure culture so women can triumph in other humanitarian areas like economic, political, and social equality. What is known as the “glass ceiling” is considered a possible contributor to the wage gap and inequality in the workplace. “Similarly, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 prohibit discriminatory practices in the workplace that have traditionally impeded women's ability to achieve occupational parity with their male coworkers” (Housh, 2011, p.118). More often than not, even a woman’s health, both mentally and physically, comes into question. “This can be explained by women’s and men’s different positions in the gender order, meaning that in gender unequal situations at work it is often women that are disadvantaged whereas men have
Employment agencies will provide clients with help to find and keep a job. These agencies include rehabilitation services for people. By locating jobs for young adult women could relieve some stress as well as give them the opportunity to live a better life. Food and nutrition agencies help clients get healthy meals and the skills to prepare a nutritious meal. Food banks and food delivery are examples of these programs. Housing and shelter organizations help find temporary or permanent housing. Also youth development organizations would help because women need a place where there children both boys and girls can explore. By providing these services light will shine at the end of the tunnel for these women. They will be able to reach the top of the pyramid of self-actualization. By providing these resources a woman’s confidence will increase, the feeling of worrying will diminish, the feeling of belonging will take place and the self-esteem of women and children will change for the

11. Empowerment-oriented organizations act to increase political power, as well as political influence of program beneficiaries of their own. 12. Empowerment-oriented organizations acknowledge the limitations of participatory management approaches and take proactive measures to balance inclusion in decision-making with tasks associated with organizational maintenance (Lewis, Lewis, & Packard, 2012). These principles would be used in my dream organization Children of our Future. The agencies Children of our Future work with children who have been abused, neglected, or have some type of disability. The first principle states that empowerment oriented structures support client's participation in organization decision-making process. I would provide a safe, warm, and comfortable environment in my dream agency which works with children. Parents and children will help make important decisions and provide feedback on their goals and plans. We give children the opportunity to draw pictures of what they want, and how they feel about the processes they will be participating in. We give children the opportunity to draw because of their age, and some are shy and would rather draw a picture. When it comes to making decisions about their children parents or guardians will be fully involved. The best resources and services for clients will be provided by my agency. Our agency works closely with consumers and outside agencies clients, members, and staff are all treated equally with
