The Zips Drop a Close Game to the Falcons
On Sunday, October 2nd, 2016, the Akron Zips women’s soccer team hosted the Bowling Green State University Falcons in a very physical conference match. Both teams did not win their previous match so they were both looking forward to get a win and change their position in the standings of the MAC. The Zips had an overall record of 3-6-2 while in the MAC there record was 0-1-2. The Bowling Green Falcons were the favorites to win this match because of their overall record of 6-5-0 and in the MAC there standing was 1-2-0. In order to win the game the Zips had to find a way to shut down the Falcons offense.

In the second half the Zips looked positive coming out very physical fighting for midair balls, but the Falcons counter was just too much for the Zips. In just six minutes into the second half the away team found the back of the net again, this time it was a shot from the Falcons forward Sam Howshar. The Zips found themselves in a deeper hole after that second goal, but this didn’t stop them from fighting back to close the Falcons big lead. Later in the second half, the Zips stepped up their defense and lead on threatening counter attacks from Ashley Amato which eventually lead her on another break away to score and put the Zips back in a close game. In the last seven minutes, the Zips were attacking desperately looking to tie and send the game to overtime but the Falcons goalkeeper found a way to shut the Zips from evening the game.
Although the Zips lost the game, they did not let the Falcons get away easily and fought back the rest of the game. A couple days ago prior to this match, the ladies played a game against Toldeo that went to overtime. Tired legs from that game may have played a factor in this match. The Zips look forward to bounce back into their winning ways as they host the Kent State Golden Flashes on October 6th in another big conference
As time ticked away in the fourth quarter, the Denver Broncos started working on running the clock down. They ran the ball as much as they could then would punt the ball down the field and count on the Broncos defense to keep Cam Newton from getting the Panther offense going. And it worked. Von Miller, who was so big for Denver’s defense in the first half, caused Newton to fumble and the Broncos recovered the ball on the four yard line.
Besides two long offensive plays, the defense shut down the offense, allowing only three touchdowns. One of those came from former Mountaineer quarterback Geno Smith to Shelton Gibson.
The Ely Tiger verses Dillard Panthers game was Friday night and the Ely Tigers won the game 14-10 when Donnell Wilson caught an “amazing” touchdown pass. But what really happened at the game? According to the witnesses, the game was amazing, but there were some people why didn’t see it that way. With the gathered information, the victory was something that was made out to be great, but it wasn’t skill that help win the game, it was luck.

The third quarter has just started and both teams are coming out fighting. The Ravens have a great start. Jacoby Jones just scored a record tying 108-yard kick return. The Ravens fans are ecstatic along with the team. After the Ravens scored The power went out in the stadium for 34 minutes. The 49ers are using this time to regroup and get their act together. They definitely regrouped because they just scored 17 points this quarter. Michael Crabtree had a 31-yard touchdown, Frank Gore scored a 6-yard touchdown, and a 34-yard field goal was kicked by David Akers. With 5:58 left in the half the Hornets recovered a fumble by the Warriors, Haynes. I dd not see who made the recovery and neither did the P.A.guy. The drive came to a quick halt thanks to a nice job by the Warriors defense.
Facing a 4th and five with 4:47 left in the third quarter,the Indians elected to go for it. Jack Beeler was sacked for an 12-yard loss by #8 Marcus Jones. The Cougars carried that momentum with them on the ensuing drive. It tool 8-plays to cover the 49-yards for the score, with the score coming in the shape of a 4-yard run from Bailey. The point after kick locked this one up once again, at 14 apiece with 1:22 left in the quarter.
Since Pennsauken got the ball in the first quarter The Braves were gonna get it in the beginning of the third. This is when it got difficult. The kick return only went for five yards and , consequently, a quick three and out on offense. Every play I heard the thunderous crowd yell,”Awwwwww!” when we messed up. There are three reasons why that could have happened either: there was something in the oranges, their coach gave an awesome pep-talk or the cold was getting to our team; and I remember hearing somebody start to say,”What did they put in their oranges?” Pennsauken got their third TD and now we were tied- a
Penn State started out the fourth game with a lead, but Illini caught up, 11-11. Kill by kill, each team went on a small streaks, until they tied again at, 16-16 then. Continuing this close game, they tied again at, 25-25, until Courtney ended the match with two kills, 27-25.
Finally the game started and we played well and so did they. The game was close the whole way threw and we came to the final inning tying them. We were the home team so we got to bat last. Two of the three outs
They where playing chase. The last two minutes in the first quarter, Rams where losing. At the end of the match visitor 61 home 60, Rams lost by a point .
Game two saw Grambling State jump out to an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. However, Centenary scored four runs to cut the deficit in half. LeBlanc walked, stole second, and scored on senior Lizzie Moran’s bunt single between the pitcher and third baseman. Grambling State threw home, and Moran took second. A wild pitch moved Moran to third, and she scored on Dunn’s second sacrifice fly of the day.
The rest of the first half was incredibly poor for the Magpies, who were flat in defence and struggled to make any impact with the ball in hand.
Carrier would haul in a Yaden pass and take it to the Tigers forty-yard-line, giving the Patriots a very big first down. The drive totaled eighty-one-yards and lasted four plays.
On Monday, September 19 the Missouri Valley College women’s volleyball team played at home against William Penn University. Each round was very intense, especially because each of the opposing teams kept tying with one another. However, in the end, the Vikings were victorious in all three games with the following scores: 25-17, 25-17, 25-15.
