What is nutrition? Why is nutrition essential to our daily lives?
According to Wardlaw and Smith (2011) “Nutrition is the science that links foods to health and disease. It includes the processes by which the human organism ingests, digests, absorbs, transports, and excretes food substances” in which the body needs to be able to function each day. Each individual has their own nutritional needs that will enable them to stay healthy and deal with disease. Healthy nutrition can also help an individual with their different levels of activities, and how their brain functions through tasks.

Where might you find dietary recommendations? What are RDA’s and DRI’s?
One can find dietary recommendations from a multitude of sources but the two most common sites would be Health.gov and usda.org in their dietary guidelines sections. The recommended dietary allowances (RDA) is based on meeting an individual’s nutritional needs depending on their age, and gender. Whereas “the development of DRI’s is an ongoing, collaborative effort between the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine in the United States and Health Canada” (Wardlaw & Smith. 2011). Dietary recommendations can all be found at the healthierus.gov and/or usda.org.
What is the MyPlate diagram and why should someone study it?
The diagram titled MyPlate was designed so that people could actually see what their plates should look like with a well-balanced meal. Following the USDA standards one can study and use this diagram as a guide when planning their own individual meals. In following these guidelines one can also start to become more aware of what one puts into their body each day, consume smaller portions, feel full longer, and will have little to no energy lags.
What are some tools for diet planning?
Some tools for diet planning are to buy fresh in all of your food needs, or be both aware and knowledgeable of
Nutrition is a key component of an individual’s healthy well being. Many factors have a significant effect on nutrition and it is important to continuously maintain a balanced one. Having a good nutrition is one of the main defenses for an innumerous amount of illnesses and diseases that can harm the body. One would ask, “What is nutrition per say, and how do we maintain the balance of it?” Nutrition is defined as “the sum of the processes by which [a living thing] takes in and utilizes food substances.” (Merriam-Webster, 2011). It is the responsibility of each individual to assure the consumption of enough nutrients to nourish the body and to be cautious of harmful toxins. In this assignment I will be describing the characteristics of nutrients and the benefits to the body.
Based on a 24 Hour Recall of my diet, results using NutriCalc Plus report that my food intake lacked a healthy balance of all food groups. My Grain intake reached only 60% of the My Plate daily recommendations. My Vegetable intake was a mere 50% of the recommended servings. Additionally, I consumed 84% of the daily recommendations for the Dairy Group. Nonetheless, I did exceed the recommendations for the Fruit Group and Protein Group with intakes of 155% and 107%, respectively.
8. Where might you find dietary recommendations? What are the recommended dietary allowances (RDA)? What are dietary reference intakes (DRIs)?
14. Dietary supplements do not require government approval before entering the market, and manufacturers alone decide whether their products are safe and effective.
The purpose of this assignment is to track and display the food choices we make and the way we eat affects our lifestyle and health. This paper addresses my personal food intake for the past three days. Next I will compare my food choices with my WileyPlus profile and determine whether I am maintaining healthy eating habits. There are foods that a person can eat in order to make sure that the daily required intake is being made. Sometimes it is really hard for a person like me to make sure I eat all the foods that I am supposed to so that I can consume all the nutrients that my body needs in a day. I know I will need to modify my eating
MyPlate is the name given to the illustration for the 2010 dietary guidelines for Americans. This illustration depicts a plate with the four common food groups (grains, vegetables, fruits, and proteins) on the plate in different representative sizes and a cup to the side of the plate for dairy. This illustration suggests that whenever someone makes their plate for a meal their proportion of each food group should be similar to the food proportions on the MyPlate illustration. This illustration is a strength and a weakness of this dietary approach. The strength of this illustration is that it creates a visual that could be easy to follow and used as a rough guideline when trying to eat healthy. The weakness with this illustration is that by itself it does not give any indication of what a healthy portion size actually is or what size the plate should be. It forces people to look online for more detailed information which may not be easy or convenient for

Planning a diet meal plan is essential to this person due to the many complications of diabetes.
Nutrients are substances needed for normal bodily operations. Essential nutrients, derived from healthy food choices, are virtually indispensable to the body. Without them, the normal functions of the body begin to deteriorate. They must be derived via the diet.
Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional food pyramid, which has been the standard by which many have ascribed as far as recommended food intake. I’m sure this model looks familiar to most of you.
According to the World Health Organization, “Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body’s dietary needs. Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity. (World Health Organization, 2012) ”
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are
