A 400V, 50Hz, Y-connected, 4-pole synchronous generator has a per-phase synchronous reactance of 0.5 Ω. Its full-load armature current is 50A at power factor of 0.8 lagging. The armature resistance is negligible. Calculate: (i) Per-phase internal generated voltage, EA. (ii) The terminal line voltage of the generator if the generator is loaded at 40 A at power factor of 0.8 lagging. (iii) Draw the phasor diagram for (ii) with a proper label

Question

A 400V, 50Hz, Y-connected, 4-pole synchronous generator has a per-phase synchronous reactance of 0.5 Ω. Its full-load armature current is 50A at power factor of 0.8 lagging. The armature resistance is negligible. Calculate:

(i) Per-phase internal generated voltage, EA.

(ii) The terminal line voltage of the generator if the generator is loaded at 40 A at power factor of 0.8 lagging.

(iii) Draw the phasor diagram for (ii) with a proper label

(iv) The load at (ii) is removed and three 12 Ω resistors are connected in wye across the terminals of the generator. Calculate the terminal voltage across the generator
