Question
evaporation takes energy from what?
Expert Solution
Step 1

Evaporation is the process by which the state of matter of molecules is changed from liquid to gas. For evaporation to occur, energy must be provided to the molecules. The energy causes the liquid state molecules to vibrate, which results in the breaking of bonds that hold water molecules together. These molecules are converted into water vapor (the gaseous form of water) and escape into the environment.

Evaporation is an important part of the water cycle. The water cycle is the process by which water from the ocean and sea is converted into vapour, after which the vapour condenses to form clouds. This condensation converts vapor back to liquid, which precipitates in the form of rain. Condensation is the reverse reaction of evaporation.

Evaporation is also an important homeostatic regulator. When the body temperature increases, the body increases the rate of sweating. Evaporation of sweat brings down the body temperature.
